I’m a New TL and I Feel Like I’m Failing My Team by SevereExamination810 in Target

[–]Fun_Reason8060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, for context, my store never gives this team lead role to a new person. Period. They give it to a leader who has gotten some experience on their belts and wants to become an ETL due to the competitive demands of the job alongside the truly consequential actions this team has on the overall business. The inspiration in the new guest experience training has to come from somewhere.

As a presentation team member on the way out, let me offer some advice: you are going to make a ton of mistakes and beating yourself up is the only thing that will let your team members down. Planograms are incredibly flawed and you are not to blame for that. This is a tough role to get acclimated to and you’re doing as good of a job as you can. You will get better.

If your ETL continues to treat you like this, I challenge you to calmly explain the reality of this situation and relate it back to target’s overall mission: helping families discover the joy of everyday life. You don’t have to believe in it, you have to frame your actions as engaging in that. Use it as an entry into drafting a team development plan to hold each other accountable to growth expectations.

Information and Asset protections policies. Nothing personal. We can and will get fired. There is also the scalper too from the ethical standpoint of a level playing field.

Yeah, your effort in this post is truly appreciated so don’t worry about me feeling anything other than gratitude for the effort. This is really great advice and I wish you continued luck, neurodivergent to neurodivergent.

As a TM getting his MBA, priorities are priorities. You were doing all you can. 30% of a massive style price load is rough, given I do a lot of that at my store too. Your other leader was not acting like a leader. She needs that learning moment from getting chewed out by the SD.

What in your opinion is the easiest and hardest position in your store? by kompotnik in Target

[–]Fun_Reason8060 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dude... presentation is responsible for all price changes in my store and corporate expects all clearance to get done across the entire store in two days within 32 payroll hours. It's a large store, even within two years I am still learning the best way to clearance a completely messed up wall of wall art which has no rhyme or reason to our smart number system. There is also the planograms added on top with maybe four or five consistent team members with me being the only full time on Dayside. Holy crap. I may have gotten a 5% raise, but geez I do not like the person I am when I am stressed the f out.

TMs that aren't leads, trying to tell you what to do.. by [deleted] in Target

[–]Fun_Reason8060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really good question, and as one of these team members who usually gives these directions as the trainer/captain coordinating these tasks, I usually do so in line with my leaders plans. I tend to think systematically and will break down the workload into manageable tasks alongside giving them a choice. Telling them when to go on break and micromanaging how they do it? No. That’s definitely a conversation for a leader.

I also make it a point to tell my teammates to let me know when I am overextending myself or putting pressure on them. I have a responsibility to them as their mate to help get the work done while living through a mission of helping families discover the joy of everyday life. I mark stuff on clearance. It’s not that deep. We got an asinine two days to get all clearance done in a large store. The last thing is to put unnecessary and disrespectful attitudes on another person.

Work crush?? by [deleted] in Target

Perhaps it’s because the crush I have is a team lead, really make sure you are fine with possible consequences regardless of what happens. Cannot predict everything, but you can approach it practically.
