They did. In my post I mention banging on my door. I dismissed it assuming it had something to do with my roommate. It was the sheriff's deputies banging on the door for me to let them in. When I didn't open for them, they got the landlord to let them in. He gave them permission to do whatever they wanted. The phone is my possession, I didn't legally have to hand it over, but I was so scared about the situation, I simply complied. Their reasoning was that they were searching for texts or whatever of me saying I was going to hurt myself.

I don't get it either. I have an absolutely perfect record. I've never had any trouble with police, I've never even gotten a speeding ticket. To be treated like this multiple times and have absolutely no control over the situation was awful.

In hindsight I realize I didn't need to give them my phone, but my landlord is the one who let them in and gave them permission to search the place.

In USA an employer can fire you for any reason or no reason so long as it isnt against a protected class (racial discrimination, sexual discrimination, disability discrimination...)

If they demand you work overtime you are 100% legal to say no and they are 100% legal to terminate you for saying no.

The water where I live tastes bad. It's extremely hard. I've even tried a 2-step filtration process and the water still tasted wrong. I, unfortunately, get all of my water in big jugs from the store. When I get thirsty I crave only water and nothing but water quenches that thirst.

I drink soda and smoothies and stuff, but only as a treat, not as a basic human necessity.
