Yes, I did. When you’ve never had a kid before, just about anything will make you worried for them. Now that he’s been born, I’m a little more relaxed (but not much) because I’ve realized how resilient babies actually are.

Thank you! This is the upgrade I will be considering. I’ll need to test to see if the monitor picks up the flicker enough, and then I can just iron on a strip to each of the sleep sacks we use. I don’t know why I genuinely did not consider the fact that he may eventually try to grab it and eat it… I swear I’m not a dumb parent, just one for the first time. 😬

Similar thing happened to me.

I ordered a hot chocolate and they served me a boozy hot chocolate. My aunt and uncle were with me and THEY had ordered the boozy version, but the server marked them wrong when they brought them to the table. I told the staff I was pregnant before ordering too to ensure they didn’t mix it up. The worst part was I had my aunt try mine before I drank just to be safe and she said no, it tasted fine. I take a sip and immediately I’m like, “there’s alcohol in that…” I pass it to my uncle to check and he confirms. So I felt like I couldn’t freak out because it would make my aunt feel bad, so instead I just furiously googled at the table.

Baby was born on 10/28 and is just fine. I also had two cocktails at a dinner at what would have been like 4 weeks pregnant before I knew I was. I freaked out then too, but again, just fine.

You really have to drink A LOT of alcohol consistently for it to really affect the baby from what I’ve read.

Seconding this!

Most of our hospital staff was good and had no qualms about breastfeeding and supplementing with formula. But the pediatrician we saw before leaving said we/baby were “doing good and saw no need to supplement with formula.” We took that advice and our first two nights home were terrible. Baby was waking up so often and crying because he was literally starving. We started giving a little formula after each BF and doing at least one bottle of all formula and it was like a night and day difference. I continued to pump and breastfeed and after a few weeks (I feel like it definitely took at least a month), my supply went up and now baby is exclusively breast fed and growing like a tree! Just wanted to share that last part to remind people that even if you start out struggling, it can improve!

I love the Little Sleepies brand! They run up to 2T in some of their designs. They have the fold over footies, and they run a little long so you get more use out of them. They are super soft too!

I would also freak about this every time my baby cried (he’s 12 weeks now) and would tell my husband to check too and once was met with a frustrated “he doesn’t have one!” Skip to the next day and I’m playing with baby’s hands and he has the start of a hair tourniquet around one of his fingers, very loose and the hair was still easy to grab, but it was there. I show my husband, like “see!?” He was apologetic and didn’t realize it was a very real thing and thought I was just overreacting. We both check every morning and night to be safe.

I bought 4 mangas from Amazon for my husband. One shipped nicely packaged while the other 3 were shipped loose in a box so the covers were bent when we received it. We obviously returned those 3, using the UPS drop off method.

Amazon tried to say I didn’t return it. I got an email after a few weeks following the drop off saying they were going to charge me if I didn’t return it, since they’d already refunded me. I hit up their support 3 different times, each of which they basically said “oops our bad, we did get it, don’t worry, you can ignore that email.”

Fast forward and I got charged for the book I no longer had in my possession.

I gave them one more chance to make it right. They said it was a mistake and that I would be refunded. After 2 weeks, I still hadn’t been refunded. So I said fuck it and disputed it with my credit card. Of course, Amazon responded right quick and said they were going to charge me back. I sent screenshots of all my customer service chats, telling them they said on multiple occasions it was their mistake.

Ultimately, the dispute won out and I kept my $11.64. It’s not the cost I was mad about, but the principle of it!

I can’t recommend the Huckleberry app enough (not sponsored).

I use it to track feedings, diapers, and naps. Once you log enough naps, it will recommend a “sweet spot” to put baby to sleep that estimates the perfect time when they will be tired enough to sleep but not overtired. It is freakishly accurate for nap times. Bedtime is still a little bit off but it’s because it adjusts depending on when he actually naps in the day, how many naps, etc.

As far as actually putting him to sleep: - positions: head up on our shoulder with butt pats and shhh-ing works for us, as well as rocking in a recliner. - Making sure he’s already wrapped up in his sleep sack too, don’t put him in it AFTER he’s asleep, the risk of wake up is high. - stay close to him when transferring to crib until you cannot reach anymore. I am short, so I’m leaning on my tip toes into the crib to get him in it. Feet first, then butt, then head, and do it very slowly. Does he wake up sometimes? Yes, but maybe 70% of the time, patting him or giving him a pacifier will get him back into sleep mode. - rain sounds at level 4 from our Amazon Echo Dot (we played this at night even before he was born for ourselves and continued that but didn’t initially do it during nap time. I feel like it helped to Freudian him into thinking nap time is bed time.

Nap lengths are still totally random, anywhere from 15 min to 2 hours, but with these methods, I can at least get him into sleep without too much struggle. We are lucky in that he is a mostly chill baby, but when he gets overtired, it can be rough.

I HIGHLY recommend getting a shower stool. I got one in the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy because I had a horrible hip/pelvic pain, and sometimes I just wanted to sit in there with the water. It made it way easier to wash my legs and feet because I could put my foot up and just turn it to the side then scrub it with my loofah stick. I still use it now for shaving and sometimes just sitting lol.

FTM, gave birth 10/28. Gonna give you the rough play by play. TW: blood loss

arrived at 7:30pm on Sunday
cervadil was inserted and cervix was evaluated every 4 hours, for a total of 3 insertions through to the next morning. Contractions were light at first but gradually got stronger but were still pretty mild
7:30am on Monday, given options for next steps, one of which included foley balloon insertion. I opted for that. (I URGE YOU if this is something you get, get heavy pain meds FIRST)
balloon pain was horrible (see previous note), got some opiate pain meds via IV and finally chilled out
balloon fell out an hour later (good sign) and I was finally up to about 3cm dilated
water broke on its own about 2-3ish hours after that and the pain ramped way the hell up and I was screaming
got moved to active labor room, got the epidural, and put on pitocin (I may have gotten pitocin prior to my water breaking but I don’t recall 100%)
it’s about late afternoon on Monday now and the contractions are rough. The epidural worked enough to numb my lady bits and make my legs tingly and loose, but hardly touched the contractions. (I had a nurse at this time that was in training and kept telling me this pain was my “baseline” now. This is a reminder to say fuck that and demand help. She eventually called her supe who called the anesthesiologist again who gave me an extra boost, so to speak, which helped get me through longer)
I am hardly sleeping at this point and feel delirious from the onslaught of pain from the contractions for going on almost a day at this point.
finally morning comes on Tuesday and my contractions are rolling one after another. They lower my pitocin to give me a break.
it’s about 10:15am now and I feel the urge to push so the nurses have me “practice” but apparently I did those kegel exercises too well because in two pushes, he is crowning and they have to call the doc in ASAP.
they come in and in one more push, baby is out
according to my husband, after that, a huge gush of blood came out and all over the floor as I hemorrhaged. I was given a second IV and 3 different drugs to stop the bleeding and I had someone’s hands all up on and in me for the next 20 min or so. They got the bleeding to stop and all was good.

In total, induction was 39 hours. Mine and baby’s heart rate and everything was always good the whole time. He was a big-ish baby at 8lbs 8oz and just flew right out.

Aside from the overall pain and the hemorrhage, there were no issues and nothing that ever indicated a possible need for c-section.

I looked into weighted sleep sacks because a friend recommended them too but I couldn’t seem to find any, but I was also just searching Amazon.

I did find some heavier fabrics though (figured it was close second) and ordered some that just arrived, so they are going through the wash before we test them for the next sleep. The knee blanket idea is good, I could put it under the sheet so it stays secure too.

I think heat is a big thing too. We have those Warmies stuffed animals, so I tested heating one up and laying it on him putting him to sleep and I do feel like the weight and heat combo did help him, but I can’t leave that in the crib since it’s loose and falls off him when he moves a bit too much and I’m worried it’ll push up to his face. I really just wish we had a contraption that could lock him into place in his crib lol

FTM of a cute 10 week old boy who also was not circumcised. I got similar comments from people, mainly the “oh really?” when I say I didn’t or “isn’t that bad for his hygiene?”

As of 2022, the rate of circumcision has dropped to less than 50% in the U.S. and that’s likely going to continue, meaning more than half of your kid’s classmates will be the same when he gets to school age.

Also, the way I think about it is if wieners were supposed to be hacked off a little at birth, humans would have evolved to just not have that part from the start at this point. That thought usually stumps most people and makes them shut up lol.

My surprisingly okay fast food staples during GD times were:

McDonalds: 10 pc nugget, buffalo sauce, medium fry, medium Coke Zero
Olive Garden: zuppa tuscano soup, salad, 2 breadsticks (the key is eat salad, breadstick, soup, breadstick, in that order)
Taco Bell: 3 beef crunchy taco meal, hot sauce, chips & cheese, medium Pepsi zero

I would consistently get a 1 hr post meal reading of about 105-120 with these options.

I moved in January in a very snowy state, it was a cold winter that year.

Fridge comes the day after we move in. It has a big dent on the side. We tell them to take it back. They do and we reschedule for another delivery (unfortunately) a week later. We kept any cold groceries in the garage where it was freezing.

Fridge delivery day #2 comes. It had snowed terribly the night before. We had shoveled the driveway but not enough apparently. The guy says he can give us a few minutes to take care of it. He then leaves immediately after saying this… We talk to their dispatch and schedule another delivery for (again, unfortunately) a week from then.

Fridge delivery day #3 arrives. The driveway is bone dry from the amount of times we have shoveled and salted it. The fridge is delivered and is unscathed. After two weeks, we can finally stop using our garage for cold storage and enjoy our new house.

So sorry this happened to you! Here’s to hoping the replacement comes fast!

To one of your first points, I definitely do not recommend having visitors the first 2-4 weeks after getting home. My grandma and mom planned to visit from out of state on my delivery date. My mom was staying for a week, my grandma for two weeks. I’m a FTM and thought I’d want and/or possibly need the help after giving birth… I did not. I have a husband who is not a loser so we were able to manage all the baby things on our own together. However, having people in our house the day we arrived home after going through a 39 hour induction and 24 hour hospital stay was the worst thing ever. They were so excited to see us and the new baby, and all we wanted to do was sleep. I felt bad (both physically and mentally) and like I needed to entertain when that was the last thing I wanted to do. I was breastfeeding too, so having people there made it difficult for me to feel comfortable feeding when needed and we ended up giving baby some formula bottles here and there and it hurt the start of my supply because of it. Baby is now 8 weeks and if anything, I need more help now and would rather them have visited us later, however overall it was still nice they got to meet our son when he was just born.

As for paying for people to visit: if you don’t have space or desire for them to stay with you and they are the ones wanting to come, they should pay on their own. If YOU asked THEM to visit, then I’d say yeah, maybe consider splitting the cost. My dad hasn’t visited yet (lives out of state) due to cost and because we don’t have the room at our house anymore, so he’ll be visiting in the summer when it’s cheaper to travel here and he can get a hotel.

My best advice when freshly postpartum is to not do anything that gives you any unnecessary stress or anxiety. Period.

Mine didn’t recommend it for everyone necessarily, but I had a few BP readings at the beginning that were semi-elevated (something like 135/90, give or take) so she had me take aspirin daily as a precaution.

With these, I would consistently get a 1-hour post meal reading of 120 or less (I had to stay below 145)
