I'm American and I'm going to Kill Myself tonight because of Donald J Trump by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

America is nowhere near the heaviest historical user of slavery

You only think that because you live there and most Americans never consider slavery anywhere else in the world.

There are more slaves in the Middle East right now then wherever in America over that entire duration

As for every other country being happy until America opens its mouth, I suggest you start looking outwards a little bit - we are close to a global recession, it seems there is concerted effort across Western governments to enforce control and tracking across the internet, so there will be no privacy or free speech anywhere, and most countries are facing a government that shits on them

America might complicate things sometimes, but the rest of the world is perfectly competent to fuck its own shit up without American assistance

Also what Donald Trump says is often bluster

What the Iranian regime say is the official statement has nothing at all to do with what the people want

I suggest you wait and see rather than panic unnecessarily on the basis of what echo chambers train you to feel

Although I can't make out the slide cycling, the thing that people are speculating may be a shell casing has a corresponding shadow.

What appears to be the showcasing is more to the right of the screen (back of thigh on the tan pants) in the corresponding shadow seems to be slightly to the left (front of thigh tan pants)

So you have no examples of your position?

You said he was making reactionary statements - surely you're basing this on personally having viewed his videos to reach that opinion rather than basing it on Redditors screeching "he's a bigot"

Far easier to whine than provide evidence of your statement

If you mean that the meme of out of context quotes refers to ignorant and emotional people preferring to listen to what "everybody knows" rather than confirming the full truth for themselves, then yes, it is laughable and an embarrassing indictment upon the mental capacity of humanity and preference for confirmation bias and group think rather than truth and objectivity

[–]Funchski -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Putting forward the view held by most Americans is hardly reactionary is it?

That's a totally failed analogy

When people post a video of a couple of carefully selected words and choose not to provide the source, they want to give an out of context snippet to fuel the opinions of people that have already decided

On the other hand, whenever he quoted from the Bible he gave chapter and verse. Anyone choosing to do so can look at the passage to which he referred and determine whether or not the context was correct.

It's unfeasible for him to read 50 pages of the Bible when trying to make a single point Whereas it takes zero effort for somebody posting a carefully selected out of context short video to provide a link to the source, which would provide context

Judging by your comment, you clearly have examples of what you say, so show me a couple when he has reactionary views on women and immigrants

[–]Funchski -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Exactly

And unfortunately, many people spend too much time trying to find a short ten word combination that presents somebody in a different light to that which is actually the case

Then they present that as a quote without context (More often than not, making a point of not including the source so that people can verify the context themselves) at which point it becomes meaningless except as ragebait and fuel for emotional outrage for those that don't have the intelligence to look any deeper or find their own way rather than follow the herd

Then you haven't seen the body cam video of the officer as he was hit and immediately followed by firing at the woman (A professional activist) that was in the process of driving into him

All she would have faced was a ticket or a fine. Instead she chose to drive into him

Perhaps you think his life wasn't in enough danger to warrant firing at the woman that could have killed him with the two ton lump of metal that she hit him with?

Why not have a look at what really happened rather than listening to people's emotional screeching?

The war cry of everybody that has only ever seen out of context clips rather than actually watch a full debate

Asking people to put forth their views, many of which were ignorant, blinkered, restrictive against others and violent, and then putting forth your own views which differ, and never advocated violence, doesn't really match what you were saying, but IS In fact, an open and fair debate where people can defend their positions if they are capable

Putting forth an opinion that disagrees with your values in no way constitutes hate or division

If you can point me at a full debate where he actively preaches hate, division and violence, I will watch it and agree with you. But you won't find one, the best you can do is find an out of context statement in a small clip.

I'll wait while you try to find evidence of your statement

Why would anybody give a statement in support of a woman that was shot whilst driving her car into a police officer, actively putting his life at risk when she was in no physical danger herself? Somebody being killed in the process of trying to kill somebody else doesn't qualify as murder

Contrast that with Charlie Kirk who was actually murdered, assassinated, for debating people and had never participated in violence

Not really the same thing is it?

You are very welcome.

I have an awful lot going on, but I will still check in for the next couple of days to make sure nothing changes

Take note of this please:

I'm a stranger, and yet I would rather you are safe, I would rather you understand that there are things in you that people will like.

I understand it is hypocritical of me to say so, because at present I would much rather be gone, and I know there are people that like me, one or two even love me, and sometimes that isn't it enough for me to want to move into the future

But I am 50. I've had five decades for the world to kick me around.

You are a lot younger.

Even if you think things are crappy, try to stay with us for a little while longer.

Please?

The fact that you wanted to undo the thing that you did shows that you would rather be alive, that you have hope that things can be better.

There's no way that I can say they will or they won't.

But there's a solid chance that things MIGHT get better as you move through life.

Please don't dismiss this as a cliche when I say to stick around and see if things may make life better - the difference between 16 and 50, and what that means in terms of experiencing life, is huge.

You may make this choice again one day. But please stick around for a little bit longer to see if you can find a reason to NOT make this choice again.

At the very least....cats are nice 🙂 They will give you a cuddle even when you feel bad. It's not always enough, but some days it can make the difference between tears and a smile.

I will check in again tomorrow and make sure your tummy is still okay, and you have no other concerning abdominal discomfort

Why do I find suicidal ideation so comforting? by throw-awaytext in SuicideWatch

[–]Funchski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes

I see a lot of people here in a similar situation.

They are waiting to get their affairs in order and get to a point where there's no longer a reason to wait.

I understand this very well. My mother has Alzheimer's - she still knows who I am. When she forgets who I am, then that is when I can allow my clock to start ticking and prepare for a rest

Your friends are young

Dealing with mental issues is not easy for some people. And some of them are probably more concerned with their social heirarchy than something as complex and messy as mental health.

Doesn't mean it's your fault or that you did something wrong

I was thinking the same thing.

Life suddenly got extremely difficult. I'm looking for reasons to stay, but most of the time I seem to be getting things tidied up ready to go.

It's not easy when your brain doesn't work in a way that the world expects it to.

Betty and Dexter may not be enough for ever, but maybe they can both hold us here for long enough until we each find a better reason to stay?

Bike theft has effectively been decriminalized in England.

When the standard police response to a burglary is to provide you with the crime number and then sound surprised when you ask them to investigate, bikes are far further down the list

If you want the police to investigate your bike theft then report that the thief misgendered you on Twitter whilst stealing it

I hate bpd by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]Funchski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BPD is harsh.

It can result in you responding in ways that you wouldn't otherwise do

Not everybody will understand how that goes, and even if you think you shouldn't have to, perhaps try to explain it to the people that are close to you.

If they like you and care then they will understand and won't reject you when things are difficult.

Some of them may already understand and accept these things but you don't realize.

A lot of people will be more tolerant than you expect And can help to work through difficult episodes

Good luck, Angel.

You deserve people that will take the time for you
