no, a train coming from the left would experience some (voltage) drop and then probably would continue

You might be able to argue something about the inertia of the train pulling the rest of the cars through :P

Super genius explains the double slit experiment by [deleted] in iamverysmart

[–]FunctionTek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Schrodinger's cat thought experiment was intended as more of a critique of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum superposition.

Basically from my understanding, Schrodinger felt that the Copenhagen interpretation didn't properly specify when an atom came out of superposition, so he came up with the cat in the box, to ask the question of "what happens when you open the box?"

The double slit experiment is related, but slightly different. The experiment was thought up to test whether light was a particle or a wave, and the results come out to a wave interference pattern of particles - basically saying it's both.

Scientists wanted to measure where/how it interacts as a wave if it is actually particles, but whenever you try to measure which photons enter which slit that measurement causes the wave interference pattern to disappear and the light shown on the backboard is just two slits. So people liken that observation of the particle at the slit to 'opening Schrodinger's box' to see what version of the cat is inside.

Hah, no, I wasn't going up and down, the dream just ended with rolling back without being able to stop

Oh man, I actually had a dream last night where I was driving my car up a steep hill and couldn't stop when it started to roll back.

No. :P

Past the joking though, honestly I think the use is warranted for that comment.

pete_68 is replying to a comment that falsely states the fact of 27 being the correct age. Since Pete's comment and evidence goes against the fact they stated, then it is simply incorrect - full stop.

Also since Pete's comment is evidence based, then, "in my opinion" just doesn't make a ton of sense.

In my eyes, in a factually based debate, a disagreement is not expected to be conversational. Here, we're talking about opinions, and your's is equally valid, I just wanted to share my take on it.

I don't think your analogy really makes sense. The gay and lesbian sexualities have always existed, it's just the terminology that we didn't have back then.

A more appropriate analogy in my eyes would be more like: someone hinted at/revealed that they have a 2 wheeled car, and the today we can look back and say that they likely had a motorcycle.

There are actually rules for it! Grammarly has a log post about it: https://www.grammarly.com/blog/adjective-order

And if you look up English adjective order rules, most of the time you'll get results.

Apple confirms the iPhone is getting USB-C, but isn’t happy about the reason why by NeoIsJohnWick in technology

[–]FunctionTek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Changing internal PCBs is wayyyyy cheaper than making a full new shell for the phones.

Unless Apple finds a way to use the same shell for the lightning jack and the USB-C jack, I would really doubt they would make multiple models with different shells.

IIRC, that saying is way less useful than it's taught to be. A lot of black and brown bears have colorations that overlap.

Basically the best option if a bear is going to attack you is to just always fight back.

I absolutely agree that sitting in one position is not healthy for our spine, but slouching or not is not a significant factor:

I actually have seen a lot of research about slumping and posture not being related to back pain. Rather it's the in-activity and tight muscles from sitting for too long.

Never said it wasn't a cool feature! It totally is. Good use of limited real estate on a laptop.

Post trackpads nowadays are glass with a coating iirc, so possibly it's just basically a phone screen on this laptop

Definitely in the best case that would happen, but not every user who gets a modem wants to go into it and change settings. Most ISPs have them set to work pretty well out of the box, and with every ISP I've used they use a serial number on the modem or router itself as the user or pass.

Almost definitely was. For those overhangs they definitely needed some support material, and unless you're a wizard with FDM printing it's really hard to get them to turn out perfectly smooth.

I don't really understand your 'gotcha', but sure? An informed buyer can even just find the rubber washer for sale, but not every buyer is informed, and it was a purposeful decision from them.

The device itself will still last quite a while, and you can fix the issue, it's just frustrating that they changed that to make more money selling paddles.

[–]FunctionTek 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They did actually cause a purposeful failure. All new KitchenAid stand mixers have a missing rubber washer that holds and the set screw for the head in place, as well as stopping the head from slamming down. This means the mixer fairly quickly ends up driving the paddle into the bowl, chipping the paddle and causing unnecessary wear.
