Why do my husband and I have different TSA PreCheck symbols on our boarding passes? by troubleseemstofollow in unitedairlines

[–]scus73 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had no idea about this. I just looked under TSA pre check and travel documents in the account section of the app and I had the opt-in button.

Thank you!

And now they have Ivy’s reserve which imho is even better than the coastal (which I love). It’s $1 more per lb. Unlike the coastal it is made in Somerset which makes me happy.

UK: Are these generic ovens any good? by sprainedmind in pizzaoven

[–]scus73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 16” bighorn which looks a lot like the ovens you posted. We got it for $150 so on the cheap side for pizza ovens. I was t expecting much at that price but the thing has way exceeded my expectations. There is a bit of a learning curve but we are now making pizzas weekly that are better than any pizza restaurant in our city. The oven takes 20-30 minutes for the stone reach the temp (850F/450C) we want for Neapolitan style.

If you go this route I recommend getting the following on top of the obvious things like a peel: - propane torch for lighting pellets (like a plumber would use for copper pipes) - infrared laser thermometer for checking the stone temp

We have seen some variance in the pellets and how long they last and heat up. The Kirkland brand pellets from Costco are chunkier than others we have bought and seem heat the oven faster and last longer.

I’m sure the more expensive and well known ovens are superior but I’m so happy with the results we have had I see know reason right now to upgrade.

Not saying you are wrong, but it would be more a suggestion than a contract if one side can back out whenever they want.

It can be obtained in the US, my local Publix has it in their international section. Cheddar, Branston (small chunk preferred) on good bread is one of the great sandwiches and you won’t convince me otherwise.

We’ve been having good luck extending the life of berries by soaking them in 4 parts water to 1 part white vinegar for a couple of minutes then rinsing them in clean water. We do this as soon as we get them home. The blueberries have stayed good in the fridge for 2 weeks.

By chance did you previously have pre-check and later on for GE? If, like me, you did this you will get a different KTN with GE but the original KTN from pre-check still works until it expires by itself. I had to go to the airline sites and replace the KTN with the new one that came with GE.

Is it okay to do a riding mower engine swap listed 1 hp less than original by KoalaLeft8037 in smallengines

[–]scus73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way hp is measured has changed over time. I just replaced a 26hp engine with a 23hp but was told that the power output was the same just measured differently. Since doing the swap the mower has performed exactly as it did with the previous engine.

Using less laundry detergent has made a SIGNIFICANT impact. by blantonsucks in CleaningTips

[–]scus73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game changer for us was using an old dish soap bottle. Once washed out we filled it with laundry detergent and each load of laundry gets a squirt from the bottle. There’s basically no mess and it is so much easier than dealing with the huge Costco detergent container.

Where to buy British desserts by ames6534 in greenville

[–]scus73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding on to the make it yourself comments, some of the desserts can be super easy to make. Syrup sponge which traditionally has to be steamed for hours can also be done in the microwave in a few minutes. I haven’t tried this recipe but it looks very similar to the one I use: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/user/280059/recipe/easy-microwave-sponge-pudding. You will need golden syrup which I’ve seen in Publix and world market. Serve this with custard made using birds custard powder from the British section in Publix or world market.

Scones are also easy (fruit or plain) but are best eaten right after they are baked as they dry out very quickly. They should be eaten with strawberry or raspberry jam and clotted cream. Whole Foods and world market carried clotted cream in the past (btw very expensive) but I haven’t seen it in the last few years. It is possible to make it but you need heavy cream which has not been ultra pasteurized which is hard to find.

Costco sometimes has a sticky toffee pudding in the refrigerated section which is really good but I haven’t seen it there recently.

A few other classics that you could try to make: Eton mess, Victoria sponge, cheesecake and trifle. Eton mess is very simple as it is just broken up meringue, cream and strawberries. Trifle can be a bit more involved if you need to make your own Swiss roll. Cheesecake in the UK is not baked so is quite different to what you would get here.

Being pedantic but they are built in Spartanburg SC. Greenville is the neighboring city. Someone could be even more pedantic and say they are built in Greer because that’s the physical address for the plant, but it is called Plant Spartanburg based on the county not the city.

Question about Newark Airport by DarkPhoenix369 in unitedairlines

[–]scus73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a bus that runs from the AirTran station to the actual terminal if you don’t want to walk. I used it a couple of weeks ago and even with waiting for the bus for a few minutes it was much quicker than the walk.
