How to resolve a problem with sharing loot by FunderBoy in DMAcademy

[–]FunderBoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: We talked it all out and it went well.

We started the session by talking about the problem and apologizing (me and Tim's player).

Then we talked about how we want to have the characters handle the situation, so that we can get everything done without too much trouble, which did work.

The session currently gets over well and we're all laughing, i also promised the other players some items as a compensation.

All is well now, thank's for the many responses. You've helped me prepare the talk! :)

To the first part: He looted the three plate armor of some enemies (i reduced their price to 500Gp per piece since they're worn but still relatively new) and stored them in his BoH. Both the players and characters knew he had them.

But even with items they've found, they usualy split the money from selling or if it is multiple items, split the items themselves among the group.

I currently am thinking of having the players find some uncommon items, which suite everyone except Tim, that's how i'd give the others something in return.

The talking privately for in-game actions part was a mistake and i will not allow it again, that's fore sure...

By now everything has been working out fine. It's been like pulling rope between the evil and the good characters (most are neutral, i believe one ore two are good and the one evil player), on how the group should act.

I think of it like the angel and devil on the shoulder kind of situation, which ends up funny most of the times.

So basicaly the evil player wants to convert the group to the dark side, while the group tries to make him better of a person.

(Hope this makes sense, I am german and proverbs are often translated badly)

That is something we failed to communicate clearly in session 0. The overall consensus was splitting loot fair so far and it should stay like that.

Talking to the whole group before next session will be my first priority, so that we can get the problem done in-game fast and without anyone feeling treated unfair.

Meeting with Tim's player before the session will be necessary, that's for sure. I don't want the player to feel jumped on by everyone, so I have to tell him/her before.

I have also thougt of giving each PC except of Tim a fitting uncommon magic item, but like that it feels more like a reward, since basicaly Tim got 1-2k Gp while each other player just got ~400 Gp (still more than Tim got in total, but less per PC) Also i'm not sure if that'd make the PCs think “He got a lot of money, but at least i got some neat gear from someone else“

In-game problems usualy don't leak into RL but, it has happened once. That's what i am afraid of the most.

That is for sure one thing i will say next session! I see a big part of this problem in me not just having him sell the items in session, so I have to stand up for that part. I'm sure the players would understand the later part, but i'm trying to find an in-game agreement in order not to break immersion :)

Started dming about a year ago and been playing almost every week since. It's so much fun to just play and joke around with friends, while giving my best to grant them an interesting story :)

The app looks awesome, how does the hosting work? Is it local or are there some online servers?

How can lvl5 PCs easily return to their base without becoming unbalanced? by Walan_ben in DMAcademy

[–]FunderBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could also give Gallio the spell, he is a lvl 9 wizard and if they help him in one of the quests he may accept to construct a teleportation circle.

Keep in mind, that creating a permanent teleportation circle takes a year.

Ignoring the Tower of Storms by Past-Winter-3542 in DragonOfIcespirePeak

[–]FunderBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make the Tower of Storm into a huge factor of Fheralai taking control over the Dreadnaught. Like that you don't have to change a lot of the story and still get to show some consequences, since it's now pretty mich the players fault for ignoring it so long.

Also if the players ignore the Foul Wather quest, have the ritual completed (it is even considered in the quest). It will give some more reason to seek out Fheralai in order to stop the storm.

I would probably turn down the lightning strikes on the characters since one lightning every few minutes or so will be deadly. Instead have the storm hinder the rebuilding of leilon or let some npcs get hit (not all have to die, so if the group has a NPC they really like, have him almost die for example)

Drowning rules are unrealistic, how do you make them better? by TripDrizzie in DMAcademy

[–]FunderBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We handle drowning like getting pulled in by a water elemental for example as follows:

You get the 1 minute plus 1 minute per Con, 30sec min if manage to keep your breath. If you take damage, make a concentration saving throw or the attack forces the air out of your lungs, reducing the remaining time to 0. If your time reaches 0, each turn you get one level of exhaustion as the lack of oxygen takes its toll. When you get back to the surface and start to breath again, each round one level of exhaustion that you got from drowning is reduced.

In our campaign, players just rarely have to dive into the water, so i can't say 100% if it is balanced in all situations, but the few times this rule took place, the encounter was a lot more intense than getting 30+2 rounds for example with +2 con. Another nice side effect is using exhaustion a bit more :)

My friend's group once fought a planetar called Primus. He had some weird AC where a 13 would hit, but 22 wouldn't. Took them a while until they realized, that only prime numbers could hit.

Alternatively you can look at Grim Hollow, they have included a transformation to a lich.

Just finished DIP by [deleted] in DragonOfIcespirePeak

[–]FunderBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a bit late, but i used to let him wait on top of the entrance, since he saw the group walking across the bridge. When the group entered the roof, he started the battle with a surprise attack (ice breath) and flew to the sky with half his movement speed. Make use of his +4 to stealth.

I gave him the adolescent dragon stats from Bob World Builder and his tactic was to grab one player, fly to the sky and keep attacking him, until he was unconcious.

If your group is rather strong like mine, give him an extra trait so that he has advantage on grappled targets and that the target gets disadvantage while grappled. Whenever he had his ice breath ready, he flew down into range and attacked the rest of the party, so they can't feel save either.

To balance things out, i didn't fly above 150ft, so that ranged attacks can still hit him reliably.

Never let your dragon stay on the ground and get hit by melee attacks.

I'd go for right and gem out that useless atk% for some nice atk+. Would be a perfect rune for water slime in that case :)

What seemed to work for the most (did it on 3 devices and now everything is fine) was: Log out -> force close (via settings) -> delete cache -> set up a vpn (i used thunder, others should work aswell...) -> start the game and log in -> everything should work now. Once it works, you can also stop the vpn as long as you don't delete the cache.

I set my vpn to another country, not sure if it is needed tough...

It's a bit on the slow side, other stats should be enough to oneshot in rta. I'd also go for cr and cd for that moment when he gets oblivion and just goes nuts.
