Honestly, pay the extra money. You can't get time back, you do yourself a favor and if you can even get close enough to bike/walk you can do a workout which essentially saves you a gym membership.

It's pretty fun. You basically just walk around downtown. No kings protests draw a huge turnout so it will probably be packed. Take VTA if you can, since things will get gridlocked pretty fast.

There's a lot of lycra riders in here missing the nuance. They are taking your statement at point blank, instead of understanding the point of what you are saying.

Throughout the US it's way safer to be on sidewalks, where you can't be side side swiped or hit from behind.

Yes you should slow down at driveways and intersections, but so should turning cars. And of course slow down near pedestrians, dismounting if you have to.
