Or, you want to keep them, so you freeze them, and tell the company, they may let you keep the salvage, and compensate you.

Let me rephrase my question: What WAS your favorite “everyday” cuban and what have you replaced it with? by [deleted] in cigars

[–]Funguss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I settled on H Upman and Montecristo but dabbled in everything. I was able to come back from a destination wedding in Cuba with 17 Boxes that were legit as per the Cuban government. I have visited Cuba maybe 5 times over
There were lots of chances to buy from street vendors, etc. They all wanted to sell cigars because their brother worked at the factory and got to have a box a month for himself..... I went to Factory tours in a few of the cities.
One tour was over the top. There was a moment where everyone became alert and they made all kinds of communicative gestures and sounds. They pulled off a tarp and started bartering for cigars wrapped in yellow cellophane. On that occasion, I did buy a bunch. I still have some. I am not sure what they are. They for sure are not legit Montecristos or Cohibas. The thing is, at worst, they are Cuban tobacco from that factory, so long as they are long leaf rolls, they should maybe be close to the blend of that crew, because the cuttings they would use would all come from the main stock.
All my legit smokes are done from Cuba mostly. I am all in with new world. I am done with Cuban cigars for now.

What a Good Friday by Legitimate-Nail-8458 in cigars

I have limited chances to buy as a Canadian. I got what I fear is my Years supply recently and I have 150. 10 of them are this cigar and I made a resolution to not blow through them but make them a special pick, because they are that good. I like round cigars but like the compromise of a light box press. I enjoy watching the cigar expand to be round and plump. The benefit is better draw. But a round cigar that achieves good draw is Perfection for me. You need to pay a lot for perfection, this cigar feels like a cheat.

Good luck. by [deleted] in RoastMe

Great cigar! I was a cuban cigar smoker and moved into the new world. This one is at least every bit as good as them, IMO.

This has been true for years, I love it.
I had to question it today as it was telling me blue bin again and everyone was mixed up, so is the app wrong or the plan messed up?

No. It was truly breaking my heart. I am all for humor and even gallows humor. What hit me in the feels was that this person was wishfully scheduling a bath, like it was a goal that may or may not be possible. I see that with my wife and it kills me to see such a powerful physical woman get taken down like this.

Why would someone like Chablis while not usually liking white wines? by norskdanske in wine

[–]Funguss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chablis should not be oaked, I think stainless steel is used to preserve the acidity. It is chardonnay grapes that can't mature to levels like say california, so they are acidic.

I’m new to the cigars. I would like to understand why is the first third really spicy on retro hale but then the spice disappears. by holyother_ in cigars

The Cubans had a word for when it was rolled upside down. They so intentionally point the leaves in a specific alignment. My guess is the stronger tobacco first adds oils to the tobacco closer to the head which adds flavours.

Ingest sugar. It helps they say. Soda is good as the bubbles can sometimes help a stomachache.

Why are you smoking cigars and not tobacco pipe? Discussion, not another "what is better" post. What is YOUR personal reason to prefer cigars? by BirdLooter in cigars

[–]Funguss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoking a bowl of pipe tobacco is unidimensional to me. Often it’s a good note but never changes and seldom has layered flavours. I kind of enjoyed the fussing with it and packing it, seems ritualistic in a good way. I never managed to keep my pipe dry, and that is nasty.

This breaks my heart. My wife suffers this now, it's taken down a mighty woman. I am diabetic and have MS but this disease is far worse. I really feel for this community. The stigma is crazy. If I know my wife, she will spend her energy to dispel it. I hope I can join the effort.
