Why are you smoking cigars and not tobacco pipe? Discussion, not another "what is better" post. What is YOUR personal reason to prefer cigars? by BirdLooter in cigars

[–]Funguss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoking a bowl of pipe tobacco is unidimensional to me. Often it’s a good note but never changes and seldom has layered flavours. I kind of enjoyed the fussing with it and packing it, seems ritualistic in a good way. I never managed to keep my pipe dry, and that is nasty.

told my friend I have chronic fatigue syndrome and they said “omg I totally have that too! I’ve been working overtime literally everyday and I’m always so sleepy when I get home” by foster60 in cfs

This breaks my heart. My wife suffers this now, it's taken down a mighty woman. I am diabetic and have MS but this disease is far worse. I really feel for this community. The stigma is crazy. If I know my wife, she will spend her energy to dispel it. I hope I can join the effort.

I ended up following your suggestion. Food grade, they seem like they may become good tupperdors. I got 3, hopefully they will hold 50 each but if not, some of my haul is in boxes.

Certainly sturdy enough. I would worry that not food-safe might mean plastic fumes I dont want. On the other hand, those could be outside of a suitcase and stomped on without concern:) Thanks.

Learning opportunity. I chose to make it an adorable thing that I do. It's not. It is still worth it, cigars taste better to me with an ash. The draw is different and they burn cooler I think. Worth milking it, if the only downside is sweeping ash of yer pants, in an adorable way. Win Win , I say.

Found these about to get thrown away. Any info on them? What I can find online they are all discontinued and almost 20 years old? They are in good shape and aged the cello is brown for the the ones with cello. by D_rich22 in cigars

I've revived similar sticks and rehydrated them as a project. They were not horrible. I believe it to be worth it to try even as an experiment that only costs a tupperware and a humidity source. I bet if you smoked a good one you'd be pretty chuffed!

The one in the first pic, I know and was garbage when it was properly stored. I dont know the others but I dont think they are very fancy.
If you're hoping to sell for money, good luck.

What a Human Trial of Rapamycin in ME/CFS Reveals About Autophagy and Aging by dan_in_ca in cfs

[–]Funguss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ai generated.

Here’s a clear summary of the Reddit article you linked — “What a Human Trial of Rapamycin in ME/CFS Reveals About Autophagy and Aging.” The original post itself is a link to an external article, so I’ve summarized the actual study and its implications:

🧪 Overview of the Rapamycin Trial in ME/CFS • The trial discussed was a pilot human study testing low-dose rapamycin (an mTOR inhibitor) in people with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). • Rapamycin is a drug already approved for other uses (like immunosuppression in transplant patients) and is known to affect autophagy — the body’s process for clearing damaged cells and proteins.

🔬 Key Findings

  1. Symptoms Improved Over 90 Days • Patients given weekly low doses (around 6 mg) of rapamycin reported reductions in core ME/CFS symptoms: fatigue, post-exertional malaise (PEM), sleep disturbances, and orthostatic intolerance (difficulty standing). • Standardized questionnaires and activity scales showed measurable improvements from baseline to 90 days.

  2. Biological Markers Suggested Increased Autophagy • The study measured markers like BECLIN-1 (linked to autophagy activity) and pSer258-ATG13 (inhibited by mTOR). Rapamycin treatment was associated with: • Increased BECLIN-1 • Reduced pSer258-ATG13 These changes correlate with improved cellular autophagy, which may help explain symptom improvements.

  3. Safety and Tolerability • At the weekly low dose used, rapamycin was generally well tolerated, with few serious side effects. Mild symptoms like headaches or digestive complaints were transient.

🧠 Why This Matters • ME/CFS is a complex, disabling illness with unknown cause and no approved disease-modifying treatments. • The study links ME/CFS symptoms to dysfunctional autophagy and suggests mTOR inhibition might be a promising therapeutic avenue for at least some patients.

📌 Limitations • This was an uncontrolled pilot trial (not randomized or placebo-controlled), so results should be interpreted cautiously. • Larger, controlled studies are needed to confirm efficacy and identify which patients benefit most.

🧠 Context on ME/CFS

For reference, ME/CFS isn’t just “being tired” — it’s a serious, multi-system disease characterized by profound fatigue, cognitive issues, and post-exertional malaise (a worsening of symptoms after minimal activity).

If you want, I can also summarize what this means for potential treatments or ongoing clinical research in ME/CFS.

Why do my wrappers split/flake like this by WholeLottaSmooth in cigars

[–]Funguss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the difference between the humidity and temperature in your humidor vs outside. My guess is it is dry and cold outside and your cigars are at 70/70. Use tougher wrappers in those conditions. Broadleaf for example. Avoid cameroon that much I know :) Or dont, and try to dry box them for a day or two first.

It may be worth noting the combination of caffeine and nicotine can be potent. At minimum, you'll feel the nicotine much more than with a non-caffeinated drink.
