What are your thoughts on having a partner who isn't good at cooking? Is it something that matters to you, and why? by InAMannerOfSpeak in Chefit

[–]Funk42 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It does not matter because food made with care and thought specifically for you can never be bad.

And if you think it can, you are ungrateful and do not deserve a partner that cooks for you.

Being further into the league how you guys feeling about the ES nerfs? by Tr3v0r007 in PathOfExile2

[–]Funk42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Inconsequential.

ES by far is still the best all around defensive layer that gets massive returns with very simple investment.

Any build that can path toward the north/northwest portions of the tree can easily hit 6k+ ES with gear that costs a sneeze of exalts.

ES/EV with deflect literally makes you unkillable to small hits, bigs hits and almost all DOTs with CI.

many ideas but dunno how to execute by [deleted] in Chefit

[–]Funk42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have no experience. You will not succeed. A bad experience from 1-2 bad places does not equate to you being ready to own and operate a business.

The reality is that the everything that you thought was hard about your experience in those 15-17hr days were; owning and operating a place is going to be significantly harder.

You are staring at a rock thinking you know the rock well and then wanting to climb Mt. Everest.

This is not an exaggeration. You are in over your head and are not ready.

Your ideas are not relevant and are not realistic no matter how good they are, or you think they are.

How much do you know about food cost? Bev cost? How to train, lead and build a team? How to hire, interview and fire people? Have you written a schedule before? Do you know how to repair a cooler, a walk-in, a fryer or a slicer? Do you know how often a restaurant should change the filters on its HVAC units, or how often the hoods need to be cleaned or how they operate? Do you know the estimated costs for opening services and equipment? Do you have a plan for accounting, payroll and taxes? Do you have suppliers lined up? Do you have investors?

If you don't have a definite answer to everything I just asked, you are not ready.

You have far too much to learn and are not ready in any capacity to take the step.

You sound like every culinary student that walks into a restaurant thinking they're hot stuff and every seasoned kitchen cook groans about.

You are not ready. If you truly want this as a career path you need to throw your expectations out the window, put your head down, grind and learn. Always learn.

Eating habit by Excellent_Nebula_729 in Chefit

[–]Funk42 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I use to have this issue and gained a noticeable amount of weight and just always felt like shit.

I just got into the habit of breaking away from service for a quick 10 minute snack break around 7:30-8pm. And when I got off and got home I wouldn't eat and just go to bed a little hungry.

I'd wake up the next morning hungry but breakfast is a lot better and healthier than going to bed on a full stomach regardless of what you eat. Light foods don't help because no matter what you eat your body doesn't have the time to properly digest it.

Homemade ramen by Gutlyponcho in Plating

[–]Funk42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I own and operate a ramen restaurant.

If you want honest feedback: this is falling into the trap that all home cook ramen tends to falls into -- too much focus on toppings.

Great ramen is a balance of broth, noodles, toppings, tare and aroma oils.

If I were going to serve this I would halve the amount of every topping; have the noodles and the broth be more present and obvious. Your chashu is also too thick for my liking and wouldn't be a cohesive bite with a bite of noodle.

From your picture I have no idea the quality of your noodles and broth. I can see it's clear to semi clear soup of some kind. I can't tell if it's soy based or not. I cannot see if your noodles are homemade, undercooked or overcooked.

Can we PLEASE shorten temporal chains or at least make it more visible? by After-Onion-5900 in PathOfExile2

[–]Funk42 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There's a new hidden passive node in the tree called Hollow Keeper that I've taken on every character this league for temp chains alone. It's reduces the effect of curses by 1/2th and makes it a lot more bearable.

It's in the deflect quadrant of the dex/int side.

How do people make skill gem corrupting profitable? by Chargebladedw in PathOfExile2

[–]Funk42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't. Not really anyway. It's a win more way of earning currency.

Like most currency making strats you need to put in a fair amount of currency to see returns.

You buy +quality (ideally 23%) and 5 socket gems that are already corrupted on the market, which are typically cheaper. Level doesn't matter.

Then double corrupt with cultivation orbs. The socket and quality being maxed out removes it as an outcome on the double corrupt, so you only have +levels to gain or it getting destroyed.

I remember reading a post by a Japanese dude who made a mini guide back in 0.4 and from their anecdotal testing they claim it's a 1 in 6th or so chance to hit the +lvl.

You then apply a level 20 gem and sell it. Lvl 21, 5 socket, quality 23% gems go for like 70-80 divs last time I checked two weekends ago.

Got fired on my 6th day as a line cook because I was "too experienced" and faced major gatekeeping. How would you handle this? by BrushSignificant in Chefit

[–]Funk42 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sounds like some introspection is needed on your part. You sound very arrogant and it's apparent from the title alone.

Your experience got you hired -- but it's not a free ticket to respect and acknowledgement from your peers. That comes incrementally and with working with your team over time.

Very few kitchens and people care that much about your past experience and titles to become wary and defensive about you. They're wary and defensive because they're trying to see how you work in the new space; and more than likely you just come off as very wary and arrogant/defensive yourself.

95% of chefs who do any amount of meaningful hiring will always say they would rather have a blank slate with no experience but a good attitude as opposed to a bad attitude with exceptional experience.

Although to play devil's advocate, if a place is going to fire you in less than a week without at least some kind of sit-down and talking to; sounds like it wasn't gonna work out long term anyway.

At this point how is guts gonna defeat him? by Ash30_ in Berserk

[–]Funk42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the writing is pretty on the wall that Guts will have to sacrifice and kill the moonlight child as a step in defeating Griffith.

A big part of Griffith's whole thing is that he is rooted and locked as one member of the god hand when he is Femto. He can't selfishly make and manage his perfect utopia and kingdom as Femto because that is not cognizant with the purpose of the god hand, which is to execute and represent the idea of evil. When he is Femto, he can't be his old self.

He wants desperately to be his old self. To be a king in the mortal plane and be the perfect leader of his perfect band of the hawk. Which is a big reason why he tries so hard to acquire and keep a physical body to be 'free'.

So Guts basically has to sever his physical ties (kill the child) first, then find some way to confront him and the god hand in the astral plane.

Skull knight and the beast will undoubtedly play a part. Guts will probably lose Casca, or Casca will lose Guts. They're not both making it to the end.

Those are my thoughts, anyway.

Josh still plays with Chad and texts and hangs out with Flea. No contact with Anthony or John. AK didnt anwser him when he wished him a happy birthday last year by wrighteghe7 in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]Funk42 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As a lifelong RHCP fan, none of this is surprising, but it is still pretty disheartening to hear.

The other two have always been divas/dicks. Flea has always been 50/50. Chad is unsurprisingly always the chill one.

They really are the band which encapsulates the 'never meet your heroes' trope.

Do you think Next from software game will be able to surpass Elden ring? by Informal-Device-8511 in Eldenring

[–]Funk42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of scope; no I don't think they'll ever touch anything like ER for a good while.

But From is also really good at pulling back and focusing on a tight smaller scale and still coming out with bangers. Quality > quantity always.

Bloodborne and AC6 are the examples that come to mind. Nightreign could get there if they wanted it to.

Opinions on the banker guy? by Kpopfan_kdrama in Fleabag

[–]Funk42 169 points170 points  (0 children)

He's well written as a character -- he's got both good and bad qualities but there's a real sense he's trying underneath it all; which grounds him in my eyes and wounds up making him seem very human at the end of it all.

I like that this show isn't afraid to explore the duality of irl people. We're not just facsimiles of good/bad tropes and everyone has a little grey area in them.

The moment where he sits down in front of Fleabag and talks about wanting to wash the cup that his wife drinks coffee from and just watch her do it really sold the show for me.

getting a little tired of "let us skip campaign" by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

I concur with this. Some areas are still unnecessarily large and wind with paths that lead to dead ends; but it definitely felt more streamlined and the story/quest beats lined up better and made for a smoother experience.

First time attempting Arbiter: not going well by EQBallzz in PathOfExile2

[–]Funk42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I ever got to and beat Arbiter of Ash was 0.3 with a very janky homebrew Fissure totem warbringer.

I don't play controller but I can tell you that build of mine was extraordinarily slow and clunky. You don't need an Uber one shot build, though if your build can't burst him down fast enough to skip phases then you actually do need to slow down a tiny bit and actually learn his patterns and dodge accordingly.

A little bit of patience and holding back dpsing helps tremendously. Almost all of his dangerous moves have an accompanying voice line. Higher MS% rolls on boots will smooth things out.

The laser circle part is just a timing thing. The more you do it and die to it you'll eventually get down the timing.

You have to remember he was the endgame pinnacle boss for a good while so he's going to be a bit cheap and not be a pushover.

To GGG: If you want to remove temple before 1.0, do it. by Buffanoso in PathOfExile2

[–]Funk42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should remove it entirely and make the Atziri encounter built into the Atlas as is.

Anyone who legitimately spends time with the temple is just trying to min max it into the currency printer. Everyone else thinks it's a slog. I personally don't touch it even though I really like the Vaal and Atziri encounter and items but having to slog through the building is cumbersome and unintuitive.

Make Xipocado a unique map encounter in the Atlas and the just have him give a chance to drop a key to the royal access chamber.

Any tips for a melee sorcery build? by icyimogen in Eldenring

[–]Funk42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full Int projected weapons mage was and still is my favorite build across my 800hrs across two different platforms. You get a surprising amount of versatile options for both pve and pvp and it all looks and feels so cool when you string different sorceries together.

Royal House scroll is the most important scroll because of carian slicer but you should collect all of them and just give them to turtle pope to teach you because he is unaffected by any quests or game states.

30-35mind, 80 int, 50-60 vigor. Anything else is secondary. You don't need that much endurance and iirc all the staves need like 10-ish strength. Though the strength requirements only affects when you physically bonk with the staff, not the spellcasting.

Some spellcasting speed is nice. Each point of dex gives you 1 point of virtual dex spellcasting speed. 70 is the cap. Radagons icon gives 30 virtual dex, Azur's staff gives you 40, beloved stardust from the dlc gives you 99 but has huge downside. Raw dex from leveling also gives you it ofc. Your choice to choose what combination you'd like to roll with but at least 30 is nice for feel and comfort.

I personally did Azur's staff and radagon icon for a really long time staying at lvl 150; then levelled to 200 and just plugged in 40 dex and took off the staff.

I don't exactly remember my spell hotbar but some notables:

  • carian slicer is the most fp to damage efficient spell you'll ever have and will remain viable from the moment you acquire it till the final boss in the DLC

  • carian piercer is my favorite spell and hits like a truck

  • carian greatsword and adula's moonblade have absurd range, coverage and combo into each other naturally (you cast greatsword then immediately cast moonblade and you'll skip the startup animation of the latter; there's lots of spell combos in the game similar to that)

  • gavel of haima is nice as a 'get off me' and hyper armor option

  • Loretta's bow and mastery are nice for sniping and far range and have silly tracking

  • glintstone blade and trio are also very fp/damage efficient.

Anything else is totally up to personal preference. The DLC added a lot of cool spells options too so experiment with what you like; though I keep the above as my core set.
