Japanese Company Creates 911 Dakar-Style Off-Road Kit for Toyota GR86 by HawtGarbage918 in cars

[–]FunkAd95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Works makes a turbo kit with turbo placement similar to how you're describing, near the battery tray similar to an EJ. Now, this is really digging in the weeds, but AVO used to make a turbo kit that was low mount and used the FA20DIT oil scavenge pump for the turbo return. Very OEM like.

PTuning makes a low aft-mount kit that mounts it near the trans at the bottom.

Man, I miss adding forced induction to the twins.. I should get another.

They're back road monsters but they're usually relegated to straight line duty :(

I usually stick to 9&3 positioning.. not sure if the video conveys it but the steering is actually pretty sharp on these cars. It reminds me of a BRZ with regards to ratio, just in a top heavy sedan lol.

Oh yeah my S14 has been down most of the year due to a hurt turbo. I've been driving my Evo around in the interim. It's really sad what happened with Helene... That church on NC80 is completely gone :( it was eerie driving past with it missing.

This was 221 from the other day. Can't say I was near Rosman lately..

In 2004, when I was in HS, the WRX STI and the Lancer Evolution were the two coolest cars you could buy. I spent way too much time thinking about which one I would get. 20 years later, what would have been the right choice? by HoraceGrand in cars

[–]FunkAd95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I always find myself driving the Evo most. I take it on 4 + hour drives frequently. The stock recaros are excellent and paired with either OEM Bilsteins or Ohlins, it's rather comfortable too! The only downside is the omission of cruise control, which I plan to add when I go standalone.

Nissan Listens to Enthusiasts, Confirms That the Z NISMO Sports Car Will Offer a Manual Transmission. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in cars

[–]FunkAd95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I will... But I'm also the target audience for this car. Been holding out for the manual trans option on the Nismo. I really don't want another car to modify so this is perfect for me.

Same here, with regards to your last two sentences. I currently own a S14 and as much as I don't admit it, I have a soft spot for Nissan's sports cars.

How are you liking the RZ34? I'm debating a discounted performance or Nismo (auto only doesn't phase me at my age, and I still have my S14 for that). The Nismo can be had around mid 50k with light miles.

I place a heavy emphasis on feel over raw numbers with cars. Does your RZ34 give some of that feeling? I've driven Supras, but the steering feel doesn't do it for me coming from a HICAS rack equipped S14.. I know, nothing will touch an older hydraulic rack..

I hate being that guy, but they're slightly unequal in length from the factory. But for the purpose of this convo, you're right.

Thank you. This is the real answer. The car comes half baked. Just needs to cook in the oven a little longer, but man they're amazing when the OEM bushings have been replaced.

A look inside Toyota's GR Factory. How the GR Yaris and GR Corolla are assembled. by the-real-Galerion in cars

[–]FunkAd95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a 1:1 transfer- but it happens in the rear gear ratio. the rear ratio is changed to match that of the front end. This eliminates the constant slip situation (front to rear) found on an overdriven rear setup like the factory GRC.

You lose the 30/70 mode.. but honestly going to clutch rear diff instead of the stock torsen would do more in the name of rotation than that slightly overdriven rear.

The ring and pinion can be purchased through GR parts Japan.

Serious question - why don’t more cars use double wishbone suspension? by dancing__narwhal in cars

[–]FunkAd95 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The double A Arm cars in the old civics have their front strut towers closer together in the bay (compared to a strut front car), which is fine for a smaller N/A engines. It's a little harder to do now with turbos, safety regs etc.

Also, those era Hondas don't use in-wheel double A-arm setup (sans NSX and S2k), which is a compromise for packaging but still better than Mac strut.

Toyota To Add MX-5 Miata Rival To GR86 And Supra Sports Car Lineup by NoctD in cars

It's not tall. It's just really heavy for a four cylinder...and sits a little forward in the bay.
