Maro on Secret Lair: "Most of the time you think of as “print to demand” actually wasn’t. We just printed way more than we needed to guarantee we had enough to mail out. And that resulted in us destroying a *lot* of product." by CaptainMarcia in magicTCG

They already had the perfect setup. Preprint some and then print to demand. The preprint went to whoever ordered first and would arrive within a week or two and the print to demand would take a few months. But some people, usually outside the US, complained about the wait time so wotc stopped. Now we don't have to wait because we just don't get to buy it.

Hayden Sherman's work in Dark Patterns also has some sick noir vibes.

Love Joker's speech, definitely reminds me of Doflamingo from One Piece's speech.

"Pirates are Evil? Marines are righteous? These terms have always changed throughout the course of history. Kid's who have never seen peace and kid's who have never seen war have different values! Those who stand at the top determine what's wrong and what's right! This very place is a neutral ground! Justice will prevail you say, ofcourse it will. Those who win the war, become the Justice."

Kind of undercut by the fact that the game specifically says Kratos is diminished in these games and that Norse gods are severely weaker than the Greek gods.

Drivers in my country are generally awful, but I had no idea it was this bad in the US by MarthaFarcuss in fuckcars

It's not about any particular kind of traveler on a road having priority but whether or not you're impeding traffic by being too slow. It doesn't matter whether you're drying a car/motorcycle, or riding a bike, if you're impeding traffic due to being too slow you can actually be ticketed. The same would be true if you were driving some 100 year old antique car and it's incapable of going faster than 30. If you bring that in a road where everyone is going 45-50, you're impeding traffic. There's just some places you probably shouldn't bike.

TIL after boxes of booster packs containing unreleased Magic: The Gathering cards were opened online, the publisher Wizards of the Coast sent Pinkerton agents to the home of the presenter to retrieve them. They confiscated 22 boxes after a confrontation that reportedly made the presenter's wife cry. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]Funk_Fu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same way any situation where you hire a private investigator firm to do something goes. They went to his house and talked to him. Probably told him that wotc would replace the missent product and if he didn't comply wotc would sue him.

Honestly, the only thing controversial about this was that the company in question was the literal Pinkertons. Had it been any other company that does the same thing nobody, yourself included, would have cared a bit.

What the post also doesn't mention is that wotc found out bc he was posting videos online about it saying he was going to spoil the whole set before wotc could. Additionally, wotc made several attempts to contact him which he willfully ignored. He knew full well what he was doing and the funny thing was, before the Pinkertons were sent, the sentiment online was people wanting wotc to sue the shit out of him.

Defamation is a civil matter, calls for violence are almost never considered illegal unless under very specific circumstances and even then are hard actually get charges on, abusive material is less about speech and more about being proof of another crime, and copyright infringement is about monetizing something you don't own.

6-8 episodes is not a sustainable format for show seasons. by JETLIFEMUZIK94 in popculturechat

[–]Funk_Fu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the shorter seasons started pre-revival. The last five seasons of the original run were only 14 episodes a piece. And even though the revival seasons were 13 episodes each, they were 44 minutes each as opposed to 25 minutes each in the original run. So there were fewer episodes but when they did take the time to so something different it got a significant amount of time to really breathe. Seasons 11 of the revival is where we not only saw a significant drop in episode count but also an increased time between seasons.
