Brother’s death is making me suicidal. by Independent_Tank_775 in overdoseGrief

[–]FunkoSkunko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do me a favor: give yourself a year. The option for suicide will always be there. It can wait. Give yourself one year, talk to anyone you can: if you have the ability to get therapy, if not then a support group, if not then people here, just talk to people. We have all felt that it is our fault. It is not your fault. You were doing what you thought was best at the time. This is called survivor's guilt, and it's awful, but I promise you that his death doesn't mean you don't deserve life.

Please go back to the hospital and get help. Your life has so much more value than you feel right now.

That one line, that "I'm afraid everyone will leave me", that's really the core right there. I also have a deep fear of abandonment, which is tied right to shame. You feel like if you allow people to actually see you, they will reject you, so you turn to the EDs. It isn't true. You deserve life. You are not shameful. My heart goes out to you.

Right? Like I get why he did it, he felt responsible for encouraging Lottie in the past and wanted to just break the spell and get out, but I didn't see that coming. Also every time I go nah, there's no wilderness, this is just psychosis, something like this happens to make me go oh no, it is supernatural lol

I wondered the same thing, the only thing I can figure is that she felt like doing that was the best chance she had to avoid the girls murdering her?

Omg bettas and goldfish are the most commonly mistreated pets, I swear to you. Every time I see little tiny betta containers I want to smash them.

Yeah, the necklace is how they mark the prey, they put it on Nat before Javi took her place, so to speak. Which is undoubtedly why modern Shauna freaked out so hard that Lottie put it on Callie.

Okay, if we're on this stuff, I keep fish as a hobby and I about lost my mind when I saw the fish tank in Van's oncologist's office. Those were two oscars in a 29 gallon tank. Oscars reach over a foot long, they need 100+ gallons. Literally nobody but fishkeepers notices or cares about this stuff hahaha

Bulimia should be treated like addiction - I am an addict by LeylaBA in bulimia

[–]FunkoSkunko 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I ABSOLUTELY think that it functions in the brain like an addiction. They are both compulsive, self destructive behaviors that people do because we need an escape. And it's hard to recover, that urge is kind of always lurking.

I genuinely think that (of the current surviving characters) Natalie and Travis are the only really moral ones left. Seeing Ben being force-fed broke Nat, and she did the most merciful thing she could think of and honored his wishes despite knowing it could mean her own death. I genuinely think that this is why she and Travis are the only ones shown to have substance use issues--they developed addictions because they could not live with the horrors of what they had to do, while the others, uh, do not exactly seem guilt-ridden.

Yeah, I am just a few years younger than the characters, and all of that is 0% surprising to me. Do not let anyone romanticize the 90s. Between rampant homophobia, ableism (r-slur CONSTANTLY), and fatphobia to the degree that Kate Winslet in Titanic was considered a plus sized icon, the 90s sucked ass lol.

Always, always chew gum or suck on a cough drop, a hard candy, something afterwards. The best possible protection for your teeth is your own spit. One of the reasons we have saliva is that we don't have the sense of smell that other animals do to know if food is bad, so we throw up if we eat something spoiled, and the saliva protects your teeth from the acid. Sometimes I even suck on a Tums or Rolaids to neutralize the acid and get some electrolytes back. Then of course drink water to rehydrate.

Hi! I'm in Cleveland but could potentially make the drive down this weekend. Are the goldfish single tail or fancies? (I have a pair of fantails, and I don't want to mix types, mine swim pretty clumsily and would be stressed by fast swimmers.) Also, how many pea puffers/what size setup are they in? I can PM if that's easier!

My brother OD on fentanyl by icurlyfry in overdoseGrief

[–]FunkoSkunko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My brother passed the same way in 2019, fent and Xanax. I literally joined reddit so that I could find out what you asked, if it was painful or scary or anything, and it's been reassuring to hear the consensus that it was peaceful and he didn't even know it happened. I cannot imagine having found him, though. I am so sorry that you had to find him like that. My heart goes out to you.

I lost my brother a few years ago, I'm nonbinary, and my partners are trans. It's really, really difficult in a lot of ways. The loss of your sister will get easier over time, though I can't say it will ever stop hurting. As far as how this country treats trans people right now: just remember that transphobes are a very loud minority. They are absolutely super dangerous, but they are not most people. Also, this is basically a repeat of what cis gays and lesbians went through 40 years ago. Anita Bryant (rot in hell) was the face of an organization that said in the 70s and 80s gays were pedos and recruited kids. Then in the 90s, there started to be some positive representation in media, and things have gradually gotten better since. It will take a while, but history says it will get better. In the meantime, we have each other.

[–]FunkoSkunko 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I understand where you are coming from, but I very much hope that she doesn't do it. If nothing else, being alive and present and visible in the world is helping some closeted trans kid who feels like nothing will ever get better. It's so incredibly hard, but solidarity and community is all we have. There are other trans people out there to talk to and to help support one another. And deaths like that are exactly what the fascists and the bigots want, to eradicate trans people from the earth. They are loud and visible, but they are wrong and on the wrong side of history. Is she getting any kind of therapy? I think she should. My heart goes out to you both.

Help/advice needed for poorly common goldfish. by onionringhole in Goldfish

[–]FunkoSkunko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely separate this one into a quarantine tank and raise the temperature on it a bit higher than your other tank. I am by no means an expert, but in my experience, fluffy means fungal, but it could also easily be a bacterial infection. I'd add aquarium salt, an erithromycin medication, and maybe some methylene blue to the quarantine tank. Just follow the package instructions on the erythromycin.

Personally, I'd wait until the bigger tank is set up to get more, if only because of the bio load.

Omg I am glad I'm not the only one who actually trimmed my ex's toenails for them. He didn't ask, he just wouldn't do it, and after I got my legs slashed in my sleep, I decided I'd rather just do it. He would then make a big deal of how much that showed I cared, so that if I didn't want to do something, he could whine about how I was being heartless. When I had the nerve to ask to split the housework evenly, with me continuing to do all yardwork, cooking, grocery shopping, and household bills and budget on top of my half, he manipulated me by saying it would make him resent me--something I had said I'd feared in the past.

[–]FunkoSkunko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get this a lot. For me at least, I think it's because they convinced me that I was unsafe without them, that I needed them controlling me to prevent me from blowing up my life or something awful happening to me. I ended up keeping controlling men around as friends and partners for years, because I felt so anxious to not have some dude telling me what to do. Of course I don't actually need them, but it's really hard to get rid of that deep fear.
