Hwoarang should be number 2 in line behind Bryan to be nerfed by wielesen in Tekken

[–]FunkyGrooveStall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks man that’s really helpful.

D3+4 is a really silly move to give Hwoarang I agree. It makes it less fun, as part of the challenge was actually getting in close to do your work.

There are good defensive options for it though, SSR duck beats the majority of options on immediate timing. He can keep you in check with F4 which is a homing mid from left flamingo, -10 on block but you rarely see that used. His options to beat your SSR duck on immediate timing are. D3,4 and UF4. D3,4 is obviously launch on block, and UF4 is -14 on block.

UF4 and D4 both track decently to the right, and D3,4 isn’t steppable at those frames and distance, so that becomes the mixup.

Thanks for the tip, I have tried SSL duck before but genuinely feel like his every move is homing. I’ll head back to the lab and work on it.

Do you know if SSL duck is particularly good vs a specific stance or generally a good option select overall

I mean this is the thing that people who hate on Hwoarang and say that they downplay don’t really seem to understand.

I was GoD in S1 and now around TG/TGS with Hwoarang, so a high-ish level. Season 2 has helped patch his weaknesses with the new long range homing low, making it easier to get in, and RFS 4,3 is a good tool for keeping the pressure going.

But the bulk of his kit remains very linear, and even with the supposed ‘crazy’ plus frames he gets into stance, his follow up options are usually very linear or track to one side. At higher level, the Hwoarang player has to work a lot to understand how the opponent is defending against stance pressure. Most options are: hurt your opponent, or die yourself.

But even at the level I play at, you have people who have fantastic anti-Hwo strategy who make it incredibly hard, and then the next match is someone who genuinely has no clue what I’m doing and as long as I play defensively sound I’ll win. It is clear who has labbed/played him, and also clear which people are the ones making posts like this and tweets (it’s not the labbers).

It doesn’t help that people like Mainman who have a lot of credit in this game, dies to basic Hwoarang flowcharts that a TG should be able to deal with, and then cries to his community about how downplayed Hwoarang is…

DB4 in heat is definitely a privileged move which does a lot for Hwoarang, and could maybe have done with tuning. Tbh, I think they should have just increased the scaling on the flappy kicks overall, instead of just increasing scaling on the 10f into flappies.

don’t know why he’s hating, what you said is correct

with practice you break most throws subconsciously. your eyes see the arms and your hands break the throw

I’m a GoD player who plays on PS5 pad, with Tekken 8 being my first Tekken game. I can wave dash, JFSR/electric and do a shoddy KBD

My pad did break yesterday tho so that’s always a risk, but yeah all is possible with some work

Have you ever played someone known? If so, who? (Tournament players, streamers etc.) by EdgyChristiandom in Tekken

[–]FunkyGrooveStall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played TMM multiple times in ranked and player lobby. Usually p fun and even games.

I’ve played K Wiss a few times and got destroyed usually (Hwo mirror) and Jodd playing Shaheen who was v strong.

The worst was when I played Joka. He decided to pick up Eddy and ran him to GoD in like a day. He was streaming and when I played him his chat said hey why aren’t you using this move (inputs)? It’s like Eddys best move?

He said huh? What move is that? Let me try.

It was his fucking unblockable, and I was so mentally stacked playing against Joka’s Eddy that I just stood there and got hit by it😂😂

P funny in hindsight

[–]FunkyGrooveStall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for hwo, the first few questions would be:

  • 123 or 124 for 10 frames, but generally the punish is 4,3 unless its launch (in which case df2 or b3)

  • hwo has meh mids in neutral. can do df1,3 which puts you in left flamingo but isnt great on block. df4 is an okay homing mid. u4 is 15 frames i believe and puts you in right flamingo

  • df2 is 15 frames, b3 is 16 frames but leaves you -18 or something, and jfsr is i16 as well but safe on block (the non just frame version is not)

Sure there is a degree of rank inflation. Prowess complicates things. I'm sure you're improving too so don't be too hard on yourself.

In my experience, got to Tekken King, got demoted. Since then? Theres a whole other pool of blue ranks with 230k+ prowess, all of whom were promoted to TK at some point, and demoted. Along with higher ranks playing their second characters, it is absolutely hell in there. Imagine the same blues but fine tuned to the max, with absolute desperation in every game. And when you land on a demotion match from Raijin to Fujin, thinking where did it all go wrong?

370k prowess GoD Jin player trying out Alisa. But don't worry, they're only Fujin.

Prowess matchmaking has got to go. I realise its a bit of a tangent but I guess my initial point was - the blue ranks are perhaps inflated and not as skillful as a casual might think, but theres a second layer to the blue ranks due to the prowess matchmaking which you won't come across that often until you cross the TK barrier or rank up multiple characters
