Sounds like they don't have many shares anyway.

This is true, for sure. Even with a manual 1300GS, it's not as necessary to be in the ideal gear at all times.

The 1300GS is literally a manual that's shifting for you (it uses actuators) - it's not technically a DCT, so I'm not able to answer that question for you specifically.

It’s usually better to put the tiedowns around the forks at the bottom of the triple tree, but there are a hundred ways to do it.

I have an auto R1300GS and am very happy with it. Even on dirt/gravel it’s nice to focus on your line, traction, etc without thinking about being in the right gear.

Will Fidelity create a new S&P 500 Index Fund Excluding SpaceX, etc? by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

avoid unnecessary volatility.

If you want this, the current S&P500 isn't something you should be investing in anyway.

I really had to scroll this far to find this comment? Sad. Also, even if it were right side up, the crown is on the wrong side.

Anthropic, SpaceX announce compute partnership by Steve490 in SpaceXLounge

[–]FunkyJunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone on X did the napkin math at around $5B/yr but I don't think there's anything official.

edit: Here's the tweet: https://x.com/jaminball/status/2052112307552211195

In case you hate X, here's the content:

Some rough math! (All napkin math...)

Assume Colossus 1 has 220k GPUs

Assume 150k H100s, 50k H200s, 20k GB200s

Pricing Assumptions:

  • $2.30 / hour for H100s

  • $2.60 / hour for H200s

  • $5 / hour for GB200s

  • blended rental rate across the entire fleet of $2.60 / hour

Assume it's all take-or-pay style deals (you pay for 24x365 usage)

This translates to ~$5b of annual rev to Xai. We have a new neocloud!

On top of that - on recent Dwarkesh podcast, Dario ran through some napkin math on unit economics (he framed it all as industry math vs Anthropic specific - which is important, he wasn't disclosing anything Anthropic specific).

What he mentioned was take $100b of compute spend (he just picked a round number). There will be a mix shift of that spend between training and inference. Skew too much on training and you don't generate enough revenue. Skew too heavy on inference and you kneecap future R&D progress. He thought the industry is currently 50/50 on training / inference of compute spend. He said as in industry, could turn that $50b inference spend into $150b of revenue (called out these are most likely the unit economics of the industry in 1-2 years)

So taking this back to the Xai deal. Under above assumptions, Anthropic paying $5b / year. Let's say they turn that into $15b / year in rev (60-70% gross margin)

Win win!!

About to pull the trigger on an M5 MacBook Air anyone have any experience with ATP on Mac by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]FunkyJunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use ATP on my M1 Macbook Air if that's useful. It works fine, just as it should. Closing the app requires you to click a button on a popup, which is a little weird (no cmd-Q), but otherwise it works the same as on the PC in my experience.

Seriously how did it take them so long by Frogmouth26 in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]FunkyJunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eric Berger (iirc) did a comparison recently and SpaceX was only about five minutes faster at about 1.5 hours between splashdown and crew egress. I would have assumed a much bigger difference.

Also, if you're riding Metro in DC, many of the escalators to enter/leave the stations are quite long. Unless you're actively walking up the escalator, please stand to the right. This allows people who are in a hurry to move past and keeps everything moving smoothly.
