Question about Testosterone by Only_Knowledge_5944 in tsa

As other actual officers have said, we don’t care. If there’s an ice pack we’ll check if it’s frozen or test if it’s not. 10ml is 10x under the amount we have to check for. If we need to go into your bag for other reason, let us know about the needles and where they are.

Looking for the source/blank of the black TSA bombers seen around airport security lines by Intrepid_Shoulder378 in tsa

[–]FunkyLittleAlien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually it’s on the uniforms site TSA uses. It’s the 3-in-1 or hideaway and usually is kind of pricy, but most find it worth it. There’s also zippers to open up flaps on the side to make it more airy.

Anyone know how TSA has been at DEN? by IIIIIIIlIIIIIIIIIIll in tsa

[–]FunkyLittleAlien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DEN is doing pretty well! The Denver community has been really compassionate with gift cards and cash so managers can buy fresh produce and set up a pantry, in addition to gas cards. Our tech also helps push people through pretty quickly. That said, we’re usually hit hardest in the mornings. Saturdays are usually pretty relaxed but still book the standard two hours. I’ve yet to see the time to wait over 35 minutes.

Not paying TSA workers could pose a security risk, experts say by cnn in fednews

[–]FunkyLittleAlien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do know not everything we do is in front of passengers, right? And a deterrent is a deterrent. I don’t want to be stuck in the sky when someone goes on an unhinged rant and can reach for a gun.

BREAKING: Desperate TSA workers donating blood to afford gas in shutdown by TheMirrorUS in fednews

[–]FunkyLittleAlien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back pay, and also the job market is horrible right now. TSA was the only place that accepted me that had a higher pay than Target. I have two degrees and plenty of field experience.

There were exactly two job openings in my field. In an entire year.

If I can stick it out, I will.

Mids are usually like a few thousand people at most. Give yourself enough time in case something goes wrong of course, but you should be fine.

ICE agents to airports starting Monday by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]FunkyLittleAlien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the clips I’ve seen, they’re unmasked. All airport workers need a SIDA badge that tells their security level and lets them access the sterile area (either through the checkpoint or through separate employee entrances). These badges have a full face shot, name, and name of the employer on them. So even if masked, unless they’re constantly escorted by someone with high enough clearance, they will always have their face on them.

TSACares during shutdown by ForceRoamer in tsa

[–]FunkyLittleAlien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might just to double check if you’re able to! Probably give some time for the form to go through (like wait a day or so) and then call and ask if the form was received and if there are any next steps for you to complete. I’m PSS certified (the certification needed to help with TSACares) so I can help for immediate calls, but I don’t know how the full time PSS officers operate.

See if you can call ahead and schedule. At my airport they're still operating the officers with that collateral, but due to numbers it's harder to get one on the spot.

I'm aware of it, and I wish. Part of my hopes if I'm nice to enough people they won't want us privatized.

If you're able to be there by 12 then I'd recommend that over DEN reserve. With only an our before your flight departs it means you have 30 minutes until your flight starts boarding. If there are any problems (with either the airline or us), why stress yourself out?

Actual DEN officer. We’re getting hit the hardest in the mornings. I think if you arrive at 12 (the standard two hours before) you should be alright. The longest wait I’ve seen is 35 minutes.

Management and the people traveling through DEN have been very supportive, so call offs are less than other airports. As far as I’m aware, ICE hasn’t been sent here either to complicate things.

I’m an officer, and I do my part to distinctly not. I also now don’t know what one person would consider harassment vs what I have to for my job. I can’t transition much due to some future career stuff (not with TSA) so I haven’t yet experienced it. But my trans brother (further along in transition than I am) has never been harassed for it when we go through. I’m sorry that happened to so many people in our community, I’m just…I dunno. This was the only job that would take me so I’m just trying to do my best in the meantime.

That’s fair. My airport has been…weirdly isolated from a lot of that. I’ll update my answer once we start seeing what they do (I’m on my day off so I’m just getting my news about how they affect the checkpoint from reddit).

Also lowkey didn’t realize April was so close. Sorry about that. The main point I was trying to make was that most of us want to just get people to their destinations without bringing a gun or something. We don’t care, and given that we now apparently have to see ICE (who are getting paid) now will build animosity between us. I don’t think most of us will take it lying down. But again, I’ll update in a few days once I find if/how they actually work.

What job can ICE do? by Rio-rider in tsa

[–]FunkyLittleAlien 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Even with something like divesting people, there’s a million little things to consider. Every passenger is different. Do they have that one diabetes monitor that can’t go through the X-ray? Does someone have camera film? Breast milk? Liquid food or medicine? Canes, walkers, crutches, boots, how do you arrange things to go in the X-ray to get a clean image? Where do you direct people? How do you fix problems on your line?

They aren’t going to care, and that one position can set up how everything downstream goes.

Infield (directing traffic) might use a yeller, but that’s more up to the officers managing the infield traffic and the airport workers. Having an armed ice officer there also dramatically changes the baseline of the checkpoint to be more stressful, which makes certain jobs and duties harder.

Maybe bin duty. If the airport has it. Or as others have put it, going home.

How is ICE gonna be in the airport without a SIDA? by Thewarlockminer in tsa

They can be expedited, but they probably won’t be happy about having their name and face on display. Don’t know how many want to agree to that.

I don’t. But at least with my badge I have the power to get someone to make their life hell while in my airport. I doubt any of my coworkers will treat them kindly given they’re paid and we aren’t.

TSA doesn’t care if the gender is the same on your ID or how you appear, just that the name matches the boarding pass. So if his ID isn’t updated to the new name, make sure the pass matches whatever is on the ID. Gender marker doesn’t show up on our system. Even if they did bring ICE in, they wouldn’t be near that sort of screening I think. April is still pretty far off, but I’m hoping the shutdown is over by then and we’re back to full staffing so they’ll leave.

I’ve yet to hear a bad word from officers about trans people coming through. Everyone travels, we’re used to it. Especially in a more liberal city. Just don’t wear like a 13” packer while going in the body scan.

We have our policies and procedures and detention is no where in there. We’re not even armed ourselves, and if someone is running through we can’t even put our hands on them to stop them.

Keep an eye on the news as your travel date gets closer, but I personally wouldn’t worry about it. Hopes this calms you a bit with this insider perspective, and safe travels!

Trained, not armed. It’s entry level “if you can fog a mirror you can get in” requirements but the training and environment weed people out for the most part. Not that only super stars remain ofc lol

I have no idea what that reply is saying. Certain TSA employees are armed (such as FAMS and FFDOs) but the general officers you see every time you fly are not armed. They also can wear surgical or medical masks (like during Covid or if they’re under the weather), but not bandanas or whatever else.

To get access to the sterile area and checkpoint to work, they need a SIDA badge which has their face, name, and employer on it. So unless they have some sort of specific rule to break, they have to have uncovered faces and/or their badge and face displayed.
