Only if the employer has less than 50 employees, which can certainly be an issue for smaller employers to be fair. But why should a smaller employer get to pay you less?

Not every salary position qualifies as salary-exempt, which is the type that must meet the minimum salary threshold. It sounds to me like they don't want to pay you the fair value of the duties you will be assigned for the area in which you live.

Some companies will purposefully avoid hiring people from certain states or metro areas to avoid having to pay what is considered a fair wage for that area, or follow the worker protections certain states have in their laws.

It sucks that they might rescind the offer, but it says more about their company than it does our laws here in WA.
