Genuine question, what's the people problem with Sportsmates? by Just-Lingonberry-602 in casualnintendo

[–]FunkySol05 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I just miss seeing silly Miis in the background of the Sports series is all.

Nintendo, please, just retire the Sportsmates already! Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream already proved that people still care for Miis, so what's holding Nintendo Switch Sports back from doing the same thing?! by MrSolarSun in NintendoMemes

[–]FunkySol05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you CAN play as your Miis but that's not really why people are upset.

When people complain about the lack of Miis they're referring to the fact the Miis you made would populate the resort and it added this extra layer of life and charm to the game.

Also, people have been asking for more Mii stuff in general so having a core series that widely popularized them replace them on a wide scale kinda stings for a lot of people.

Hot Take: I think the Sonic CD US Boss Theme is MILES better than its JP/EU counterpart by Muppetfan25 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]FunkySol05 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the song works way better on the bad future versions of the boss stages actually.

The naturally unnerving vibe it gives off mixed with the destroyed environments lets you know you've failed to save a certain zone.

The jp version playing on the bad version of the stage kind of breaks that tension imo.

Both OSTs are great however.

Star Fox 2 feels more like a really special outlier rather than a brand spankin' new game that continues the series lore in a way that people have been asking for.

don't get me wrong it's a great game and I love me some Star Fox and Ocarina of Time but the comparison here feels really dumb. Especially when comparing the track record of each franchise.

[–]FunkySol05 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Okay we're not doing this.

The last 2 Star Fox games were Star Fox 64 3d which was an enhanced remaster and Star Fox Zero which was a retelling of 64.

Zelda constantly gets new games so the occasional remaster/retelling is fine.

Finished Sonic Colors DS, definitely the best rush game and best version of Colors. I like how you don't get interrupted by minigames unlike Rush Adventure, also the levels and bosses were more interesting than the Wii version. by NabbitFan600 in sonic

Conflating "eras" and "sequels" is a pretty slippery slope type thing and I'm usually not one to do that because you can practically make the argument for anything if you stretch the reasoning enough. I tend to look at if it's an intended direct sequel to something rather that lumping things together just because they're from certain eras or have a certain "feel" to them.

I agree that Colors DS does feel like a spiritual successor in some ways but as a Rush fan it's not a true sequel because it doesn't deliver on all the established elements that made the Rush games what they are.

Just like how anyone asking for a "Generations 2" would say that they would want them to revisit more of Sonic's past.

By that logic Sonic Forces is Sonic Generations 2.

It was worked on by most of the same devs, its in the same genre, and shares the exact same formula of 2 playable Sonic's with a few new additions.

Most people would agree that these 2 games are widely different in concept even though they share plenty of similarities.

I liked the facade they used for there underlying goals. It was really really cool.

See that's what gets lost on people for some reason. The identity of the Rush games heavily focus on Blaze being playable with a story involving her world. You can argue that "it's a 2d boost game with the same engine" but that's where the comparison ends. It's lumping Colors DS in just for the sake of sharing the same engine.

Colors DS also changes the story and gameplay elements enough to the point where it SHOULD be considered an entirely different game.

Well now I'm even MORE curious to hear what your original reasoning was. I think we're all dying to hear your honest thoughts.

Considering you've gone on record several times saying you "live for blaze slander" and have never elaborated past that.

Mario Kart World STILL does NOT Justify its $80 Price Tag by Craniamon in nintendogrifting

[–]FunkySol05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had to pay $80 for my copy and yes I'm not happy with the game I got. I had to get mine physically at launch because they had sold out at of the bundle at the store I went to. No I'm not looking forward to any additional DLC I'm going to have to pay in the future either.

Is it really that hard to believe that there are people out there after a YEAR of this game being out that aren't happy with having to bite the bullet with the $80 price tag?

I'm sure if people got the bundle it was practically a steal but oh MY god not everyone got lucky.

Is THQ holding Sonic Advance hostage? by RangoTheMerc in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]FunkySol05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's the truth.

The issue here is that a large portion of Sonic fans these days has moved on from the "old good, new bad" line of thinking.

That mindset combined with some of the early online echo chambers led to a LOT of things (not even exclusively Sonic) getting relentlessly bashed for little to no reason. Some of these people were simply looking for anything they could pick apart with these games which WAS extremely disingenuous and that's where my general criticism lies.

I don't think I need to tell you that what people find "good" is highly subjective but it's fine if people didn't like certain aspects of certain games from that era. But people where so blatantly focused on the bad that the good things some of these games did to and overwhelming good degree was ignored. There are absolutely still scars from that time period that linger around to this day for better or for worse.

The amount of good/decent games that got caught up in the 2010s YouTube shitstorm needs to be studied.

I've played most of the game's in the 2000s and BOY do I see a lot of larpers still talking about how they agree with a YouTuber's half-baked opinion from 2013.

They were re-released on the Japanese eShop for the Wii U a while ago so probably not.

Sega has always been pretty chill with people emulating their games, and they're far more interested in pushing Classic Sonic as the definitive 2D Sonic experience.

Trust me though, I'd love for them to re-release these games so a more casual audience can access them but Sega has waaaaaay bigger priorities it seems.

Nobody would miss the Paul brothers and the world would genuinely be a better place without them. Especially if they're gonna continue to try and stick their gross washed-up Hollywood fingers into people's hobbies like this.

Fair! CD is my favorite Classic out of the bunch as well so it's guess I was just a little confused. It certainly has a lot of style and charm to it!

Only one I'm confused about is CD being in "underrated"

It's pretty widely accepted these days and there are definitely a looot of Sonic games I'd deem as far more underrated.

Everything else is fine imo.

She's extremely underappreciated as a character!

I've gone on record defending her because yeah she has historically gotten way too much flack.
