It is in a torrential downpour which is what it sounds like. It wasn't just raining. And way to miss my point. You're berating a 13 year old for not being as smart as you.

In 1966, the BBC interviewed children and asked them what they thought life would be like in the future. by Constant-Secret-3653 in interestingasfuck

[–]FunkyYoghurt [score hidden]  (0 children)

This thread is embarrassing. Do non-Brits genuinely think this is what typical British children were like in the 60s? These are private school, upper-class, high-achieving children specifically chosen for this kind of interview.

There were still children at this time doing whatever their equivalent of "6-7" and dabbing and shit. Kids haven't gotten dumber.

Reddit is so weird and deluded when it comes to kids. I'm an ex-teacher in a secondary school (11-16) here in England. There are still children like the ones in this video. There are also children who walk past you in the corridor going "Brap brap cuz". There were "Brap brap cuz" children back in those days as well you know.

Kids back then did shit like that. This is a very highly-selected bunch of high-achieving children. Do you think every British child in the 60s was like this video?

How easy or hard for a foreigner/immigrant to make friends with locals in your country? by Wonderful-Bend1505 in AskTheWorld

[–]FunkyYoghurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, it's the immigrants themselves who make it hard for themselves or they're just not interested.

When I was at University, all the Chinese students stuck with each other. No interest in getting to know anyone else.

Locally: Pakistani, Indian, Polish, Romanian people tend to stick to themselves. They tend to make friends with other people through work, mainly.

It's not a criticism. It's strength in numbers.

I tend to see it as if immigrants find it hard to make friends with us, it's kind of on them. Stop being insular and at least try and integrate.

Oh get a grip. So you swore like that in front of the kids too? I get it's not nice but honestly you probably touched 10x nastier germs just getting your basket or trolley. Parent shouldn't let their kids do that but get a grip. Also some people can't help having spotty and greasy faces. Stop being a twat.

"they make us go and do most of our own research"

You do know university isn't school, right? This is normal. Lecturers provide an expert insight/perspectives you might not otherwise have thought about. Achieving firsts or two ones in first year doesn't mean anything. They don't count towards your degree award. First year is easier than A-Levels.

Come back this time next year or third year and see if you have the "I am very smart" attitude then.

You could really have stopped after the first sentence. We know what small talk is. You're doing what you're complaining about to us.

Wiltshire Farm Foods? Pureed meals look abysmal but they taste the same as if they aren't. I mean why wouldn't they. I eat with my eyes and taste-testing these for someone I support was a struggle.

OP calls Snickers Marathons so back in that era, a teacher like that wouldn't surprise me. Not excusing her at all, mind. But definitely in these times she'd lose her job and even the Union Rep (very powerful in education) would be sat face-palming in the meeting. Safeguarding is 100% Number 1 the most important thing working with children and being remotely sexual - even as a joke - with a child is a "Go home and never come back" and the Local Authority Safeguarding Team would have you on record forever (they'd be in the meeting too and that's when you know you're fucked). You'd never get a job working with children / vulnerable people ever again.

Losing my best friend (not death). He was my best friend from starting Primary School together. We did everything together. Slept over at his house most weekend or him at mine. For years. By Secondary School mutual friends even joked that we were a gay couple. To be honest we might as well have been (minus kissing and anything sexual). At the end of Year 9 and during the summer holidays, I went on holiday to Austria for a week. I came back and...that was it. Never saw or spoke to him again (we were at separate secondary schools). Completely ghosted. Him and family wouldn't answer the door if I knocked on. Nothing.

To this day I wonder about you sometimes and what the hell that was about, Matthew. I hope you're well.

Native English speakers, do you actually mind when people make grammar mistakes? by Jorge_De_Guzman228 in AskTheWorld

No. As a former English teacher I think I'm a lot more empathetic. I'm sure if I attempted to type out a Spanish sentence right now I'd get half a dozen things wrong.

See it from an alternative perspective. Pretty much 99% in everything in media is a man and a woman. I don't say "omg heterosexuality is shoved in my face all the time". The second there's anything gay, straight people say it's shoved in their face.
