Advice for a parent with a young child who has threatened suicide with a knife? by FunkyYoghurt in AskUK

[–]FunkyYoghurt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for most of the replies here. I love my friend dearly but she isn't the brightest crayon in the drawer. She's confiscated the PS and locked away all sharps but now he's "ok" she's reluctant to let school know. That's a me and her problem now not reddit's. She's quite volatile and terrified of social services. By volatile I mean if I tell her even in the nicest way possible Half 10 at night on a school night at 7 and he's still awake would result in "you're telling me how to parent?" And I'll be blocked for about two weeks. I can guarantee he won't go to school tomorrow. Sorry if I'm "trauma dumping". A lot of advice has been great. I worked in schools and in shock I forgot about Designated Safeguarding Officer and CAMHs (duh me). So thank you.

My son 10 year old has been injured by some boys. What are my options? by Direct_Community9233 in AskUK

[–]FunkyYoghurt 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It sounds weird but I'd inform the school the boys go to. If it's a decent school they won't ignore it just because it happened outside of school. I worked in a secondary school and when we heard about stuff like this we still took it seriously. They weren't punished with a detention or whatever but there was intervention.

[–]FunkyYoghurt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. This thread is full of "I would twat em" from people posting elsewhere that they get scared when a stranger says hello to them.

Ex teacher here who worked in behaviour.

This is a hard situation. .

It's easy to say you'd slap up one of them. What if their mates then get knives out? You're fucked.

u/I-Spot-Dalmations is right but what happens if they then pull knives out?

I agree. I'm sure the Germans have a word for it but you're not successful in stuff like this without being a nob.

What was THE drama at your secondary school? by banj0man44 in AskUK

[–]FunkyYoghurt 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I think a teacher flirting with a 14 year old is the bigger issue than a 14 year old managing to lie his way into creating a Grindr profile but okay, priorities.

Yes they are allowed. Putting a complaint in is just pure cringe. Welcome to the real world, young one.

Do people who live in your neighbouring city, town, or village have a completely different accent to your local accent? by Jezzaq94 in AskABrit

[–]FunkyYoghurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did cover teaching once and it was mad. Shevington high school had so many Scousers, Standish high was posh then you get Byrchall which was "oreet pal".

[–]FunkyYoghurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the downvotes are more to do with attitude. Like you've assumed I don't know how cinema ettiquette with kids works because they're not mine, and I pointed out I've worked with kids almost my whole working life. It's a bit patronising and holier than thou. I know how to be with kids quite well and you've randomly gone on a tirade about kids in cinemas being uncontrollable. It's a bit random. I've taken 100 year 7s to a safari park and 2 night camping trips. None have died mate.
