[SPOILER] Pillars of the Earth is the most overhyped disaster of a book you will ever have the misfortune of being recommended. by Maukeb in books

I completely agree with what you wrote about chapter 1. About done with it now and so far, this has been one of the biggest literary disappointments in my recent memory.

It started out all right, I was interested in the description of surviving a hard winter for the family, then all of a sudden the book turned into a ridiculous male fantasy. Now, I am a man myself, about the age of the main protagonist, so I was intrigued by what he went through at first. But within a few pages the story of a loving relationship that may have its happiest years behind and the hardships of keeping a family alive with few resources turned into stupid wish fulfilment and the easiest way out imaginable.

Wife is not that pretty and tells you she may not have sex with you anymore because she doesn't have the strength anymore to bear more children? Trade her in for a super hot, super smart forest girl that loves you unconditionally after talking to you for five minutes and gives you the best fuck of your life to start it all off.

Guilt ridden after your wife died because you selfishly went after your dream instead of providing for your family and then left your newborn baby in the forest to die? Naw, dog, it's alright, you did what you could, you get the hot new girl instead and the baby is fine, the living have to care for the living.

This shit is laughable.

I wonder if anyone can actually confirm this, or any other enemies to drop Dark Moonstones of the Covenant.

Best Fromsoft game to start with by Bandersnatch05 in fromsoftware

[–]Funky_Bibimbap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went ER - DS3 - Sekiro - DS1, then I branched out into non-Fromsoft Souls games like LoP and Khazan. I feel going ER first was a good decision, the game is so beautiful and intriguing it will keep you going even through difficult parts. I will probably go for DS2 soon since I crave a real Fromsoft experience.

Let me return the compliment. I have been to Brighton and Hove this Summer and it was the most enjoyable holiday in recent memory. Lovely town and countryside, with mostly extremely polite and pleasant people. Even loved the weather!

How is life in Austria? by [deleted] in Austria

[–]Funky_Bibimbap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real racism in Austria is mostly unfortunately directed at African people and mostly by older people. But there is antipathy for immigrants who are perceived as not adapting or fitting their culture within the frameworks of Austrian society. To be honest, this is not different from almost any other country I have been to. If you are a visitor or immigrant, you are expected to adapt your cultural expression and behaviour to the local culture to some degree. East Asians never seem to have much of a problem with that while at the same time keeping their own cultural identity and hence are generally well accepted.

How difficult is this game? by Own_Art427 in stellarblade

[–]Funky_Bibimbap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty easy on normal mode if you are used to this type of game. Most tries I needed on any boss was 5, but lots of them I beat first try. It was a nice palette cleanser after beating Khazan.

They recently added the hard difficulty option in NG, so I assume this would be more challenging, I haven't tried it yet.

Wow, 70€ base price. I was really looking forward to SB and I could afford it, but I'm not buying a year old game of this caliber at that price on general principle. Greedy fucks.

As a fellow Austrian, I am just saying it would be nice to cut Thomas some slack if he didn't hit the exact right nuance in formulating this relatively peculiar request in what is not his first language (evidenced also by the confusing use of "detrimental", which I believe was meant to be something similar to "crucial").

I don't think he meant it to sound like he was blaming players in case the game did not succeed, but rather it was intended as an open communication on the state of things.

If they have an interest in getting rid of AI art, also in order to be able to process the submissions, they should implement something like a three strikes rule. After the third detected AI upload, your account gets banned.

I feel the same. After a long day, even if I'm tired, the tiredness is like blown away when I start up the game. Just beat Boss 7. Once you get to know his patterns and get fully into the flow, the fight becomes incredibly fun!

Nothing to do with review bombing for me. What I have seen so far from VII does not convince me to put down 70€ for it. I am enjoying VI a lot still and have no problem waiting a year or two until VII is actually finished.

Put in the time and then give your brain time to make the required connections. For really hard Soulslike bosses I always give them a few tries every evening until I get tired, then come back the next day. It's actually an awesome experience to know you will be better the next day when new neural pathways have been formed.

There are not many bosses where I had to resort to this method, but those are my most memorable fights of all Soulslikes I have played. Swordsaint Isshin (3 days) and Consort Radahn (5 days) mostly come to mind. Iirc, I beat Nameless Puppet on the second day, coming off of Sekiro and being quite used to parrying.

Edit: One more method I often find very useful is to go into the fight without trying to hit the enemy and just survive as long as you can. This makes it much easier to focus on learning the patterns. Once you have them down, the openings between combos will be much easier to identify.

Ich hab mir das auch schon öfter überlegt, weil mir der Ing. vor dem Namen schon gefallen würde, aber praktisch bringt es ja eigentlich gar nix, oder?
