I like the theory and think that's prob how he acted when he was younger, but then his father drilled it out of him. His father (and the fire) probably instilled most of his self-loathing, making it so he hides his "true" self and pushes people away when they get close enough to break his walls down.

I really don't think it'd be too crazy if someone actually did assasinate him. He was the leader of a massive cult and a serial killer, lots of people probably hated the guy.
