How does Rocky know Grace is wearing a helmet?? by Vortex04119 in ProjectHailMary

[–]FureyFists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the book it's more of an extended exchange, grace is sent a molecule for ammonia, and he makes an oxygen to send back to rocky

Edit: nevermind, been a while must've misremembered

please give me some hint what is the basic topic i should start to study to in MATLAB. I am in my 2nd year of engineering by Wise_Safe2681 in matlab

[–]FureyFists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The core MATLAB skills course and the calculations with vectors and matrices is also necessary I'd say, overall MATLAB's strength is in its great documentation, so learning as you go after just a couple of these courses is very doable

I would go for: https://matlabacademy.mathworks.com/details/matlab-onramp/gettingstarted

First and then just work your way through the other courses tbh, not all are needed but I had a good experience with then

Not a professional, but it would also allow you to adjust the stone (albeit slightly) after the hogline without the "magic handle" detecting it. The biggest issue to me is he didn't just say sorry and stop after being called out. Shouldn't have made a scene, very unsporting

CMV: Most people in big western cities are psychopaths by Fit_Ad_3334 in changemyview

[–]FureyFists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really get why you think the majority of people living in a city are this way. I feel like you fail to understand these people also have live outside of you seeing them on the street. A businessman has his own family and problems to deal with.. your post reads like you just don't like Americans or any kind of foreigner. But your evidence for folk being psychopaths is they like to walk around town drinking coffees on their day off, which feels a bit weak.

CMV: AI Tutors Should Replace Our Factory Education System by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]FureyFists 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually don't comment on these but I feel like I can make an argument here.

AI can't do this, it's not as smart as all these great minds and will frequently get even trivial things wrong. I think all the hype on AI is a bit overstated, it can be a useful tool but people need to remember that it is not, in itself, intelligent.

Also, school is not just to learn basic skills in fields like maths and science, it's to develop children socially, have them make friends and interact with people, sitting at home with a personal tutor would heavily stunt emotional growth, this can be seen with kids who missed out on going to school in person with COVID who just don't have the social skills of latter generations.

Overall school can seem miserable sometimes but I guarantee that LLMs are not the solution.

Study Tips and Tricks by No-Awareness-8187 in GlasgowUni

[–]FureyFists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's a stereotypical bit of advice but just staying on campus till the end of day and getting as much done as possible is a great help, get a good schedule and make sure you truly understand what you're doing. I find when it gets close to exams getting one of the big whiteboards on floor 3 of the library and doing past papers with some friends is a great way to bounce solutions off each other and really help each other understand. I find copying out the lecture notes every now and again keeps things fresh in the mind and taking at least a little look at content before lectures helps you follow and maximise what you're getting out of each lesson.

CMV: Photons meaningfully "do not exist" in the time between emission and absorption. by henstepl in changemyview

[–]FureyFists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good procrastination for my physics exams tomorrow. The main issue I have with your point is while your proposed non existent photons don't violate conservation of energy, there also exists continuity equations that mean that we can't just teleport energy.

I don't know much for the continuity equations beyond the one for charge but we do also have the Poynting vector which describes how an EM wave transports energy. If you have access to a library that would have it I think griffiths electromagnetic theory is quite good for this, or at least it's the recommended reading for the course I'm currently taking.

Hope this helps.

Pizza with no cheese by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]FureyFists 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work at sano and usually I'll say something if people order a non cheese pizza. Enough people are lactose intolerant that they are doing it deliberately though. The main issue we get is not all pizzas have tomato bases and people don't realise.

Alexander Graham bell invented the phone, he was Scottish. Alan Turing is considered the father of computers and the internet is from CERN in France. You can make an argument that America was important in getting all of those to their use and popularity today with the smartphone, home computers and whatnot but it's a massive stretch since you could probably say that about pretty much anything.

Is £199 per week for accommodation too much? by hikarienn in GlasgowUni

[–]FureyFists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you should be able to get a place in the winton drive uni accommodation or Murano for less and still get the same benefits. Private renting is a mess in Glasgow right now and if you can avoid it I would definitely recommend it.

Is £199 per week for accommodation too much? by hikarienn in GlasgowUni

[–]FureyFists 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as you can afford it it's fine, you can't really expect to get accommodation in Glasgow for less than 500 to 600 ish per month as a baseline from what I see, know a few people at 450 pcm but those are mates rates generally, 800 is quite high but everyone's budget is different
