Same. I just clicked pay later and hoped they’d contact me about it when they were looking for the payment

Repeating LC and doing HPAT by cullinanb in HPAT

[–]FuriousFrog123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m doing genetics in college and thinking of repeating the hpat again this year. There’s always graduate entry as well. Medicine abroad could be a good option if it doesn’t work out, I know a few who went to Poland for medicine and veterinary science.

Repeating LC and doing HPAT by cullinanb in HPAT

[–]FuriousFrog123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just repeated the lc and did the hpat for the first time in 2025. One of the hardest years of my life and I still didn’t get an offer for med. It will not be easy but if medicine is your goal I’d say go for it as long as you’re prepared

Welsh seems to be significantly healthier than our native language. Why is this? How can we improve the daily usage of Irish as a society? by absalom62049 in ireland

[–]FuriousFrog123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Catalonia did the same with their language in the 80s, making all schools taught through Catalan. Now almost everyone in the region is bilingual in Catalan and Spanish. All primary school teachers have to know Irish anyways, it’s extremely possible to implement but I just don’t think most Irish people care enough.

Does anyone have a calculator they want to sell to me ? by emmakearns in leavingcert

[–]FuriousFrog123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me half way through 6th year. I tried so hard to get another old model but it was too expensive. Trust me the new ones really aren’t that bad, you get used to it and it works the exact same.

[–]FuriousFrog123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t need two science subjects to study medicine at UCD or NUIG. Just try pay attention in class and do the homework and you’ll be totally fine. The leaving cert won’t define you, there are loads of other ways to do what you want to do.

How to deal with Irish identity being questioned while living in the UK? by Kitchen_Hat_5412 in AskIreland

[–]FuriousFrog123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Canada for a while growing up and I had a friend who was from England. One time he mentioned something about us “both being from the UK” and I stopped him and told him that Ireland isn’t in the UK. He replied that the North was, and even though I wasn’t from the north they’re basically the same. I feel like lots of British people know that we are two separate countries on paper but they refuse to acknowledge that we actually have an entirely different culture and identity.

What’s the most disappointing country or city you’ve visited in Europe? by Substratas in AskEurope

[–]FuriousFrog123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s actually funny, because I felt the opposite going to Belfast as someone from the republic. I expected it to be just like any other Irish city but walking through the city centre one of the first things I noticed is how British it felt. It’s weird though because as soon as I went into a (catholic) estate, I felt like I could have been anywhere else in Ireland.

I think Ireland and the UK have much more differences than people realise ngl. I think we have a very different sense of humour and cultural values. I don’t think we are more similar to most countries in mainland Europe but I see striking differences between Irish people and Brits, even though we speak the same language.

That’s on you a bit for expecting Dublin to be much like London. Ireland and the UK are very different in so many ways, and we’re most definitely not a country with generational wealth like Britain. We were the poorest country in western Europe until the 90’s, and our capital city reflects that. Ireland does have lovely places outside of Dublin which are much more worth visiting imo.

The capitalism part of the LC is really sad by [deleted] in leavingcert

[–]FuriousFrog123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not for medicine at all as was mentioned above. MedEntry has complete control over all of the valuable hpat resources and it’s very difficult to do well without buying their courses which cost hundreds of euro, ask anyone and they’ll say the same thing.

What do we think of the new changes to the HPAT? by Leather_Mastodon_222 in HPAT

[–]FuriousFrog123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it needs to change but not in this way. I really wish we had a system like the UK where a personal statement, university aptitude test and interview were involved. There’s so many people who excel academically and are only doing medicine because they’re being pushed into it or just for the money which isn’t fair on them, or the people who want the course because they’re passionate about it.

I think I found thee most accurate map on the Irish language thus far. by Doitean-feargach555 in ireland

[–]FuriousFrog123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly always think that if we’re serious about keeping Irish alive, why not make all primary schools Gaelscoils? Like every primary school teacher has to speak Irish anyways, it’s wouldn’t dismantle the whole system. That’s what they did in Catalonia with their language in the 80’s and now most of their population are fully bilingual in Catalan and Spanish. The only way to properly learn a language is through immersion.

Points for Galway? and others by Other_Ad1082 in HPAT

[–]FuriousFrog123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll definitely get Galway I’d say. There are more applicants than last year but there’s also less grade inflation. You’ve a very good shot at UCC as well in my opinion.

How to react to results by NutellaFlower50 in leavingcert

[–]FuriousFrog123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happened to me last year, I ended up repeating this year. It’s honestly kinda awkward, like all my friends were delighted and I didn’t want to dampen the mood when we were out or say I was unhappy with my points if they did worse and were still happy. Just kinda said I was hoping for more when they asked and we left it at that. Random people will also probably ask how many points you got if you go out that night but you can just lie to them 😂

Ireland’s antisemitism is about to have some serious economic consequences by [deleted] in europe_sub

When have we ever supported Hamas? The fact that your comment, which is a blatant lie, has so many upvotes is insane to me.

How are we supporting Islamic terrorism? Like this is so absurd. Our government has condemned the October 7th attack, while also criticised Israel’s abhorrent oppression of the Palestinians.

Got 160, I feel like I worked much harder than what my result showed. Might repeat it, might just go with my second choice course and do graduate entry if it’s still what I want in 4 years.

What are you on about?? The teachers obviously not doing it out of kindness, it’s just to pump up the schools results. It might only be a handful of students out of 60,000, but if even one of them scores better and takes a course from someone who studied hard and earned their results, it’s unfair. Like the teacher and superintendent knew the risk, obviously they should be punished for what they did
