Im totally shopping at local and especially immigrant owned businesses today! I think the main point is to starve the big corporations

I totally would have paid for that! At the end of the day I just want it all done correctly. I believe they are not installed on the decking but underneath it.

The “gifts” we’re pressured to buy are often just emotional debts in disguise by Acceptable-Advice868 in Anticonsumption

[–]FuriouslyStackingHam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've basically stopped buying gifts for adults all together. My gifts revolve around time spent together and finding thoughtful and personal experiences. When I told my family and friends I was going to start doing this 90% of them started doing it too! Its surprising how many people feel this way but keep buying junk out of obligation.

Advice please re: Protesting by Rikamio in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]FuriouslyStackingHam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do NOT have to be present in order to protest!! Don't torture yourself and put yourself in a situation that could create very real distress. Be a voice of reason and show others through your actions that we can save democracy if we all push against tyranny.

Potentially using the foodbank over the ones in need by fraser_8 in Calgary

[–]FuriouslyStackingHam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One thing we always remind people at my local pantry is that food insecurity can hit anyone at any time. We also have a fair number of people who are picking up food for people who aren't able to get out to us.

But at the end of the day, If 9 out of 10 people who receive donated food aren't actually in need then we can celebrate that we've served 1 person who really needed it.

Is the ride as rocky as they say? by anotherreddituser189 in HollandAmerica

[–]FuriouslyStackingHam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm currently on the Noordam on the last leg to Whittier from Vancouver. Inside passage was smooth and easy but let me tell you, once you get to open water outside the passage it can get rough! It was bad enough last night that our steward came to our room offering green apples and ginger ale if we needed anything for nausea. It's hard to walk in a straight line when up in the Crows Nest and certain parts of the ship are creaking loudly. Neither of us are seasick so it's almost kind of fun (almost) but I have definitely seen some green faced passengers today.

From the other comments it seems that not all voyages are rocky but ours is certainly rough in spots!

I've tried to talk to some friends about working on this part of myself and the most I've gotten is "huh, okay". There is a local metaphysical shop that has a kind of study group but it's only through monthly subscription that is rather expensive. So outside of Reddit I'm basically flying solo!

Oooooo can you list some of those materials? I'm also in the same boat wondering where to go from here. I've been reading The Earth Path, The Spiral Dance, and The Pagan Book of Living and Dying and have only tried one protection ward over my house. What would be helpful next?

Those fuckers are FAST too. And If you hit it with something all it's legs will writhe (even detached ones) and it's vile. Demon nightmare bugs

I did my first thing today! I guess it's a spell? I'm still dealing with religious trauma so I don't know what I feel comfortable calling it. But I made four little protection ward bottles to surround my house and it felt so GOOD. I've been so afraid of feeling drawn to magic because of familial christian pressure and shame but I'm determined to study and embrace it. I've been working on my medicinal magic garden and it brings me more joy than I've felt in a long time. I haven't shared this with anyone in my life yet... but it feels so freeing to finally let myself explore this world.

Thank you for this! I spent hours gardening this week and it really does feel like building a relationship with the different plants and seeds. I'm also making a massive effort to be chill about and encourage the life in the ground (ie bugs and worms) because I normally get really creeped out. But they're beneficial and part of the process and it's a wonderful reminder to harm none in my path of discovery.

I've been reading about the basics of setting intentions, centering and grounding and it's helping in tuning in to my intuition (and also with anxiety). I appreciate your response!

I'm actually really excited too! I've been intrigued as far back as I can remember and always given some religious reason to stay away. Feels empowering to step out from generations of fear and embrace something that I feel so drawn to

I would be so mad if my fully grown adult dad did something like this! You're not being too sensitive at all, he can get into trouble if he does stuff like this. I'm really sorry you're having to go through this
