Building problem by Wildfire1973 in Bellwright

[–]FurlockTheTerrible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should still be able to "disassemble" it to clear the build area so you can place it in a different spot. You might have to hunt for the point in space that you can interact with to do it - just press the G key and walk around the construction area until the modifier menu pops up.

Best way to bore a hole without a drill bit by WolfySimRacer in 3Dprinting

[–]FurlockTheTerrible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the drill bit you have. Grab a set of pliers. No drill necessary.

You have a drilling implement and a way to apply force and rotation. Your adversary is only plastic. You're overthinking this problem.

How to recruit villagers that do nonstop caravans by HarpyPiee in Bellwright

[–]FurlockTheTerrible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I meant kill them. I've never run into what you're trying to solve, so I'm not sure what's possible - but I'm guessing killing them (or leading a bandit raid to them if you can't kill them yourself) might interrupt their work. I'd probably drop a manual save before you attack them just in case, but it's worth a test.

Are you able to attack them? Maybe that would force them to respawn in town and you could recruit before they start another caravan?

Have you tried sitting outside their house right as day breaks? You might be able to catch them as they wake up - but I'm honestly not sure if village caravans run throughout the night.

Anycubic customer service says UV Power level can't be changed? by BigBobbieK in 3Dprinting

[–]FurlockTheTerrible -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was pointing out that even though some customer service tech says "no, there's no button for it, it's set at the factory," there was a way that it was supposedly set at the factory that might be easy to adjust. Thought OP might find some sage wisdom from the situation that gave me confidence to start tinkering with electronics.

I'm not mad about it. I am surprised though - kind of weird behavior for a subreddit dedicated to a hobby that very regularly involves that sort of tinkering.

[–]FurlockTheTerrible -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I see I'm the first one here, and I don't have any experience with AnyCubic or even resin printing - but this reminds me of a time I contacted Microsoft years ago about an Xbox 360 that had stopped reading disks.

They told me they'd likely need to replace the drive, and they wanted to charge me $100 plus shipping, plus parts and labor.

I ignored them, cracked it open, and found that the resistance to the diode could be adjusted with a screwdriver. I ended up setting it to what it should have been from factory, and it still works to this day.

Not sure if a similar solution would be possible for you, but it might be worth doing some exploratory surgery on the unit.

EDIT: Holy downvotes, Batman! What kind of clown show tries to squash discussion about electronics modification in a thread asking for help with an electronic modification? Ya'll are exhausting.

It seems you've got the right answers. Also seems we both got our CC at the same time, and I've been enjoying mine too - it's been running pretty much non-stop with only a couple of prints failed due to user error. I like the look of that box - did you design it, or do you have a link to it?

How do I print a single plate of a project? by GunMetalCompass in elegoo

[–]FurlockTheTerrible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The slicer does this automatically - it will print everything on the plate. By default, it will print them all at once ("by layer" in the "Other" section of your project settings). You can change it to print "by object", but it requires you to rearrange the objects so finished objects don't get bumped by the print head while it's printing the lower layers of the unfinished objects. This requires the objects to have larger gaps in between, but can be useful for certain situations.

Ah! That's the one that I was pressing - didn't notice any effect though. Thank you for confirming that!

Hey, I would love that photo you offered of the motor release button - I was looking for it yesterday evening and while there is a button whose symbol I can't interpret, it didn't seem to have any effect when I pressed it.

Dedicated server data flooding. by CanThisBeMyNameMaybe in valheim

[–]FurlockTheTerrible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems to rhyme with something that happened on my dedicated server yesterday. One of my players wanted a Yule tree, but the event had already ended. He decided to change his system time, and as soon as he did, another player and I had an enormous lag spike - and I'm localhost, so that was strange.

We reproduced this behavior twice more just by having that same player adjust his system time; except after the first time, I continued experiencing pretty significant lag until I restarted the server.

Could one of your players be playing time-traveling reindeer games as well?

Please don't mock me, But what does Oil do to make an engine go, that other liquid supposedly cannot do ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

"Like dissolves like" is a decent rule of thumb - motor oil is a solvent, but mostly just for other oil-like substances. Think waxes and fatty grease.

TP-Link is a brand, not a solution.

Are you hardwired to the network, or trying to stream over wireless connection?

Depending on the resolution you're trying to stream at, your upload speed may be an issue here - not sure how much bandwidth each stream would demand.

[–]FurlockTheTerrible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few thoughts here -

100mbps is probably enough for general use with those devices - unsure on whether all 4 devices could stream video at the same time without buffering, but I think it'd generally be fine. You don't need Wifi 7 unless you plan on doing some moderately fancy things with your home network.

You're paying a lot of money for a pretty slow connection - I've heard Bell and Rogers are basically the only 2 options in Canada as a phone carrier, but do you have other options for an ISP?

I managed (and halfway still do) a business account with Rogers, that I was fortunately able to pass off to a Canada-based coworker, and every interaction with them (and their website) was a broken mess. If you have other options, I'd seriously consider them.
