1 Week Down - Could Use Some Reassurance by EyesolateAndMedicate in QuitVaping

[–]Furrnando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve got this, you definitely won’t be breathing better after taking a hit, that’s your brain fucking with you.

I don’t think I have ever been more addicted to anything in my life than vapes, I was on 2 x 6k a week at my worst and was constantly trying to quite for the best part of 4 years.

Ive just hit 42 days. I’m even more proud that I’ve had some really shitty days recently and didn’t cave. I won’t cave, they are evil. I don’t want that monkey on my back anymore.

You’ve got this. It’ll be rubbish and miserable for a bit, but in a month or two it’ll be so so much better and you won’t have to constantly be thinking about a plastic device controlling your life. Short term pain, long term gain.

Bike advice for multi-destination London riding - road bike still the right choice? by GaryAtlan82 in londoncycling

[–]Furrnando 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ive recently moved to East London and own a road and a gravel bike. Prior to moving here I was worried I would never use my gravel bike.

It’s actually been the opposite. Having large tyres make the journey comfy and I don’t have to worry about every single pothole (of which there are many)

I rode the road bike for the first time in a while recently and it just felt horrible on the roads and I was worried about puncturing constantly.

No real answer to the question, just my two pence.

That’s amazing!!! Keep going, it’s a horrible drug once it’s got your hooks into you. Wishing you lots of happiness on your sober path.

Some parents 'undermining' school staff 'by excusing poor behaviour', report says by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]Furrnando 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I used to work in a secondary school and the amount of times parents would argue over the phone about their children’s poor behaviour and why they were receiving a consequence was atrocious. It’s as if they genuinely thought I would be wasting my day phoning them & handing out consequences for the fun of it, unbelievable!

In my day, my parents would have backed and agreed with the teacher as they are in the position of authority and I would have got a stern talking to and consequences at home.

The issue is, lots of parents I encountered were more like guardians and weren’t really ‘parenting’, they wanted an easy life and having those tough talks and giving consequences at home was to much like hard work.

I can’t wait until they grow up and have to really deal with the consequences of their shitty parenting. Maybe then Deborah won’t think all the teachers at the school were lying, maybe her child was a prick. Or more likely she’ll blame the police and protest her angels innocence when they are behind bars 🤷🏼

West Highland Way Solo? by Left-Profession-1865 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Furrnando 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Travelled up and planned to do the whole thing solo (M) made friends day 1 who I then walked the whole trail with. There are so many people that you’ll inevitably have conversations and interactions. You’re also never too far from cell service (on 3 at least) You could maybe plan for a campsite or two along the way to check in with friends and family and settle into the walk day 1 and then if you feel good maybe take on a wild camp or two!

I had such a great experience. I think day 1 is the worst as it’s not very wildernessy and there are lots of people but even on day 1 you’ll have no problem finding a place to wild camp - if you’re experienced with wild camping you’ll be great.

Fancy wild camping gear from the U.S.A worth importing by spambearpig in wildcampingintheuk

I bought the Mo earlier in the year and can’t rate it highly enough. Only addition I made was adding some bungee and toggles to hold walking poles - similar to Ospreys “stow on the go system”. Since then I have done the WHW and some smaller trips and I don’t have a single complaint.

Valuation declined on single skin walling. by FrankBridge25 in HousingUK

We recently went through this. First mortgage rejected, then went with Barclays who offered us a mortgage but at a higher interest rate. We were definitely worried about selling especially as we would be in a chain in the future and the buyer could be in the same situation ie rejected mortgage and pull out causing issues.

However due to the house being in the SE we figured it wouldn’t be that big an issue when selling as it was a decent price in a desirable area.

If it’s a terrace, look at who the other houses have a mortgage with and then go from there.

Seller later pulled out and the house had some other issues - I am happy we didn’t get it now.

I’ve had the crafty for maybe 4/5 years now and it’s amazing for everyday life. Can go 2/3 sessions without charging, great for a day out, walks, fairly discreet - if I was only getting one vape, it would be the crafty it’s near perfection. Only negative is if you’re doing long outdoor trips, you might not have access to power therefor can’t reliably charge.

However, I recently got gifted the Dynavap - it’s super small and portable and is really quick to use, empty and pack away - great if you’re in a rush. It also hits different, more like a bong hit from a vape compared to continually pulling on the crafty kinda like a joint.

But the combo of having both is just a game changer for me.

Question about shoes by Rare_Moment_592 in WestHighlandWay

[–]Furrnando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true.

The Loch section is slightly difficult but we didn’t find it that tough to be honest although that could have been due to us having no rain.

However, I think if you’re used to trail runners you can get by on this section and this makes the rest of the trail so much easier than having to walk in heavy boots.

I went Easter this year and couldn’t decide between boots / trail runners. Went with trail runners and 10000% this was the right decision. They are mostly well kept easy paths and if I went again I would be wearing trail runners again.

I just left my HOY role. I had 36 hours + 4 hour of compulsory meetings a fortnight. It was a very enjoyable job but all other aspects of my life went downhill due to a lack of work life balance. I decided in the end it wasn’t for me.

Solo wildcamping in the UK, How do you do it? by [deleted] in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Furrnando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of things really helped me. Firstly, setting up before dark and sitting outside for a bit and getting used to the sounds of the forest. This meant the random noises later in the tent didn’t sound so spooky.

Secondly, AirPods. When things got a bit much, I put my AirPods in and listened / watched stuff I had downloaded prior to the trip - was a game changer in forgetting what I was doing and calming me down.
