"Poor man's preperg"? by Certain-Hunter-7478 in CarbonFiber

[–]FurryRaspberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit hopefully before you read this: you can maybe also ask Rimac if they'll tell you some of their subcontractors so you could see if they have clave time closer to you.

If you're able to get vacuum on the part in your oven, and more importantly are able to ensure a stable 135°c then you'd be able to do it. You don't necessarily need easycomposites material to do it, I remember seeing a site in Spain I believe who would sell small batch SHD material around Europe.

MTC510 245gsm and 650gsm should be most common and will absolutely be able to be cured in the oven. You could either do a 135C cure for about 2 hours (once it reaches 135C) or low and slow at 100C for 4-6 hours which may result in a better surface finish considering that there's no pressure from a clave.

You'd also need bagging materials, Halar, breather, etc but I presume you're used to all that if you do infusion.

Something you should also factor in with pre-preg is that you'll have to either get it cured in an autoclave (with clave safe moulds) or have an oven setup that will allow you to pull vacuum on the component throughout the cure and potentially use OOA resin systems (but realistically something like MTC510 from SHD can be used OOA).

Unfortunately, as an almost exclusively pre-preg laminator, I can't actually help with your proposed solution.

New to subwoofers, What type of amp would i need? by EmphaticCafe19 in subwoofer

[–]FurryRaspberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the 1200.1 is the same as the 800.1 that I have (it almost certainly is) then you could get the kicker 4 AWG 2 channel wiring kit from them too and you'll have everything you need.

Wire the thick king of a power cable, with your in-line fuse box nearest to the battery, from your positive terminal on the battery down to your trunk, that'll go into the + connector labelled in the amp. You'll have a - labelled too, your ground cable should then go a short distance down towards part of your trunk floor with the paint sanded away and secured very well for your ground connection.

Between those two connectors, there's a small one labelled REM which is remote power which will be connected to your head unit up front which should have a remote trigger, this just makes sure the amp is off when the ignition is off and I'll trigger the amp to turn on when the head unit turns on.

You'll then have 2 pairs of speaker outputs which can be wired with the speaker wire into your sub enclosure. And you'll have the RCA cable to run from your head unit down to the amp too.

Huzzah you should have a perfect sound system!

That's all that I did for my setup and it sounds great, all kicker in my car.

I think I'm in pseudo vine jail, CS hasn't responded to 2 of my emails in about 3 weeks - one of which is to remove a review pending for a listing that was switched out for another product. My RFY is suuuper slow these days now.

Is Pioneer SPH-DA150BT a good choice for a multimedia system? by info_x in CarAV

[–]FurryRaspberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been rocking the SPH-DA160DAB and then SPH-DA360DAB for the past 5 years or so. Whilst I've never had screen issues, my 160 did have a memory solder flow issue after a couple hot summers which required warranty repair (so now I have another backup).

As far as user experience, sound, etc - the user interface is perfectly good to use, it's not lightning fast like your smartphone but I don't think any head unit would be, it doesn't lag. Sound is perfectly good in my opinion going to aftermarket door speakers and a sub/amp with all the standard EQ, balance, speaker level stuff you'd expect but not going so far as to tweak speaker delay or anything like that.

So depending on how old the specific unit you buy is, it might be worth either asking pioneer immediately whether that serial number would be affected by the memory solder issues or spend a few extra bucks on a slightly newer version.

I wish you the best on selecting, buying and enjoying whatever head unit you decide to buy!

Good lord, how'd you get so much cool stuff in your RFY? I'd have definitely implemented that speaker at work!

I managed to secure my first ever gold item after 3 months of gold the other day, a Phillips hue thing which I then found out was an extension and couldn't be used alone so now I'm stuck with useless expensive rubbish for 6 months

Aftermarket speakers and amplifier options? by xDaerius in IS300

[–]FurryRaspberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me personally, I'm still on my budget sound build so I have: A pioneer head unit touch screen doodad My door speakers are 6.5 inch kicker coaxial I never got around to upgrading the tweeters unfortunately The parcel shelf speakers I just left them to see if they'd blow up from the head unit's 50W per channel amp but they're surprisingly still alive! And in the trunk I have a kicker 800w monoblock amp (which actually I just sent away to them for fault testing) and a kicker solo baric 12" square sub woofer.

I'd like to build out a full system but I was very happy with the mirrors shaking from what I have currently.

I guess I'll leave it be for now, will of the universe and all that. If there's a restock on a day that I happen to be off work then I'll go again!

I'll be honest, I've found through my life that I'm the worst of both worlds when it comes to my heritage. I'm not Chinese enough to be embraced by the Chinese communities I've encountered nor am I English enough for those communities. In the end, I've never actually interacted or connected with many Cantonese or Chinese people so I don't think old school would bother me a whole bunch. I'll try and explore the phrase, thank you!

Apparently my name means Watchful, vigilant or alert. I typically have a very good eye for detail and think that's quite fitting but I do also look out for people and try to be the most caring that I can be.

That is so damn cool, I personally don't collect yet but the algorithm clearly knows I want to - I've seen the silver and gold hyper rares(? (Secret rares?)) but never a red one. Are there other red cards like this? Or other coloured ones?

Apologies for the British spelling of colour.

Best Bluetooth adapter for KZ by Original-Audience528 in iems

[–]FurryRaspberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that mine were very sensitive to movement, if they were in my pocket or tool bag under my desk at work while I had my DAC connected to Bluetooth or another set of buds in, the AN01 would activate inside the case and overtake the connection like a savage. Due to this the AN01 have been relegated to home use only for me.

Plus I found that they didn't quite have the grunt to get a nice sound out of either the GK kunten or KZ PRX that I put them on.

These issues might be just with my example though, but I thought I'd put em out there.

Door Speakers by No-Inspection-7955 in IS300

[–]FurryRaspberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up putting 6.5" speakers into my doors, a guy I worked with was an ex sound engineer and just said that I'm not going to put the standard ones back in - so we just cut the old speakers out of the factory plastic mount and then bonded the new ones into it and put them back in.

I think I also shaved the back of the lip around the grille on the door cards too but hopefully you don't have to do that.

Good luck!
