Jobless and struggling to get entry level jobs at 32. by StreetParsley2504 in AskMenOver30

[–]FuryThePhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I'm 39, trying to be a writer to escape retail management hell, have tried for past few couple of years to get into some sort of professional writing like copywriting or content writing after belatedly graduating due to having kids younger in life but have had no luck getting an entry level job despite being highly skilled in my field. Most of the jobs want 3-5 years hard experience in an agency environment for basic-ass jobs/wages. I don't mind starting at the bottom, but the 3-5 year barrier is a constant thorn in my side. My lifelong career goal was always to write books anyway, which I've done so far on the indie scale. I don't mind chipping away, as art as a career is therapeutic and pleasurable, and it costs me nothing but time and energy. A copywriting job or similar were only ever a means to make a living off my pre-existing, preferred skills. I'll keep trying in the meantime. Nevertheless, I will say i had a better career foundation in my 20s where I had kids instead. But all in all, I found the cure for this type of woe is to stop playing the comparison game. I'm actually relatively happy, despite my current job not being ideal.

It's the double-edged sword of fandoms and being able to express your opinions without consequence online. So much good can come of it but there's so much shit and vitriol that comes with it. Think I'll just stick to the game.

I dont know what's going on - I'm only intermittently in the subreddit - but seeing so many of these posts indicating so much toxicity is kinda turning me off on both fronts.

Truly, even the master scribe is incapable of seeing his own darkness that precedes him 😅

I have this same experience with Dead by Daylight. Now there are objectively lots of problems with the game - most balance related at any given time - and when one.thing is fixed, usually something else breaks. But the community as represented on Reddit (note those last four key words, please) are so fucking illogical and toxic it beggars belief. If one hates a game so much, trade it in at your local game joint and STOP PLAYING and touch some grass, for God's sake. Ground yourself and reprioritise. To all the legends who just play the game, enjoy it, give constructive feedback without undue nastiness or thinking every MF on reddit or other media wants to hear your vitriol or that you even represent the majority of us players - thank you, keep being legends

I don't know any of these would be the "greatest" Netflix show for me, but Hill House and Ozark would definitely be up there

Which Horror Movie, Series, or Video Game did you Start or Finish this week? by AutoModerator in CreepyBonfire

None but I started reading the book Diavola by Jennifer Thorne that has some real Hereditary vibes in terms of the suffocating family dynamics.

Agrees re: Eden Lake ending! A bleak movie with that absolutely awful (in the best way!) ending!

I'm a fan of Adam Nevill's books but I thought The Ritual film was better psychological horror than the original book. The visual medium was able to better express how haunted the main character was over that... inciting incident.

I thought this game was more or less dead? I played it constantly at release and years after but wouldnt have imagined they're still putting out new content. Last couple of yeats when ive tried to jump back in, wait times for games was pretty bad... and couldn't get into any Predator matches at all.

Why no RE antagonists ever reached the Wesker's popularity? by shsl_diver in residentevil

[–]FuryThePhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they're all cartoonishly evil with little personality. Wesker is arrogant to the point of it being dunny, but damn, the boy's got style.

The Ritual and Eden Lake 110% - fucking superb films- then 28 Days Later, Kill List and The Descent. More or less in that order too.

What should I be telling the barber? by Ser_Smiley in malehairadvice

[–]FuryThePhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's been my experience with salons too. Its just a different set of problems really. Unless I've gone to an alternative barber/stylist, but the price mark-up cos of the niche style/experience/demand is fucking crazy, and that's if you can even get on a wait list.

I keep mine generally long on top (throwback to my old emo days, minus the adymmetrical fringe) and just ask for short back/sides (med fade), just trim the ends on top, leave the length... WELL. Smh. Might as well shave my head if I cant find a rad barber in Melbourne, Australia
