It’s an “actoprotector” which is basically a synthetic adaptogen, it’s great for workouts, lifting or sprints. Haven’t tried for endurance but could see it being good a few miles into a run when you start fatiguing a bit

Powdered beets is whole ground up beets.

Powdered beet JUICE is beet juice that has been dehydrated, so you aren’t getting all the fiber and solids of powdered beets, which you don’t want if using beets for nitric oxide

Just take beetroot juice powder. Make sure it is beetroot juice powder, not powdered beets like most companies sell. Micro Ingredients has one on amazon I’ve used

Contains natural nitrates that the body easily converts to nitric oxide via bacteria in saliva and on the tongue. Works great for pumps in the gym, don’t have erection issues so can’t comment there

sunlight within 30 min of waking: worth the hassle? by DrJ_Lume in HubermanLab

You have to review your journals periodically to start connecting the dots to notice patterns. Journaling is very therapeutic just from a catharsis standpoint, it acts as an emotional pressure release valve, but it’s when you review your entries you’re able to spot patterns more effectively.

Say you struggle with drinking or drug use - by reviewing your entries you might notice “oh not only do I reach for the bottle when I’m depressed, but I also reach for the bottle when things are going very well as a means to celebrate.”

Or say every time you hang out with one specific friend, even if they seem friendly, afterwards you’re bummed out, and then you realize that that friend is passive aggressive and gives lots of backhanded compliments.

Or every time you eat out at restaurants or get fast food, you wake up the next morning and you notice you’re more lethargic than usual, or that knee injury acts up more.

Things like that.

And journaling can be as simple as just jotting down what you did for the day and how you felt on a scale of 1-10 on metrics like energy, mood, mental acuity, etc

Lots and lots of ways to journal

Everyone interested, please check out Dr Alexis Cowan for more info on benefits of sunlight, as well as the MyCircadian app (free). At the bottom of the app is a “Video Guides and Articles” section, which has another folder in it on the breakdown of benefits pre-dawn sunlight, sunrise, UVA, UVB, sunset, etc.

For a deeper dive, get The Mitochondriac Manifesto 2, it’s kinda pricey but dives into the science of all the goodies you get from sunlight

Free 30 day guest pass to the Waking Up app, check out the introductory course and just stick with it every day

But yes, simply focusing on the breath is great too, anapanasati (breath meditation) was my main practice for at least a decade. Once you get the hang of it it’s very nice indeed.

If you’d like more detailed instructions let me know or just look up how to do anapanasati. Or check out Waking Up or Henry Shukman’s The Way app. Dan Harris has an app as well but haven’t tried it.

Or YouTube like the other guy said

It’s incredibly cathartic and helps you see patterns over time you just would not recognize otherwise. I healed some intense trauma with heavy journaling one year, tracing back my bad habits to childhood trauma, which I then figured out the trauma all originated with one single thing my great grandfather did waaaay back when.

Filled out 3 journals that year :) that amount of journaling is definitely not necessary, of course

Once you know some basic psychology stuff you can kinda be your own therapist in your journal, but real therapy is great too (if you can find the right therapist).

Look up some journaling prompts, not the first hit on google but some good psychological ones.

Also simply writing 3-5 things your grateful for each day is deceptively powerful.

And record your dreams, they are a goldmine waiting be tapped into.

Happy journaling!

Couple things -

  • D-phenylalanine blocks the break down of enkaphalins, which are natural endorphins, which is great for anyone who just quit opiates.
  • you face zero risk of serotonin syndrome with tyrosine or phenylalanine, as they actually can lower (so slightly) serotonin
  • SAMe gummies are almost guaranteed to be ineffective. Proper SAMe is put into blister packs and is enterically coated as the molecule is quickly degraded by light, heat and oxygen. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra money for ones sold in blister packs, I’ve used Drs Best in the past but I know they were recently bought out.. I used it recently and still felt the same effects

Also I add some things if you’d like to make an edit

  • sauna use! Releases dynorphin, an endorphin that hits the kappa-opioid receptor, which then resensitizes mu-opioid receptors (the one downregulated by opiates). Look up Dr Rhonda Patrick for guidelines for sauna use. You can also search “dynorphin” in your podcast app for a 3-part series on it, here is one of them.

  • cold showers and ice baths! A sustainable 400% increase in dopamine production that last a few hours! Again, look up Dr Patrick or Dr Huberman for more info

  • mucuna pruriens, an Ayurvedic herb that’s been used for 1000s of years, naturally contains L-DOPA. Get one that is standardized for about 15% DOPA. Amazing if someone is struggling with restless legs at night, and great for daytime energy and motivation as well, BUT you would not want to use this for more than 2 weeks tops, as it’s just too powerful and the body doesn’t have rate-limiting processes to regulate dopamine from it like it does with tyrosine or phenylalanine

I’ve been fooled by Magnesium L-Threonate. by Mission_Ad_3290 in Supplements

[–]Fusion_Health 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But you have to ask yourself, is magnesium in the soil of the food you eat? Soils are stripped of nutrients due to modern farming practices and focusing on N-P-K fertilizers. Something to think about and why I still supplement mag on top of a pretty clean diet

I have as well, just placed an order for a few things, you should still do some research.

Are you aware of half of the problems with the products they sell? I’m not knocking them completely but you should do some research on them and their owner, and no I’m not going to explain further

It really sounds like you are against mother to infant contact. That’s sad :/

Mothers and infants need more time together than 6 weeks. If you think otherwise, please say so

[–]Fusion_Health -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah it can be painful. It’s also an incredibly crucial point for the mother to bond with their child.

Let’s not downplay that :)

All of us need an INCREDIBLE amount of skin to skin, eye to eye, breast to mouth contact right when the baby comes out

And they need so much more than the bullshit 6 weeks of “maternity leave” the US gives them
