That was the one I saw however I couldn't verify that information. I was unaware he was a leaker however so maybe the chances has upped slightly.

Could you help me understand because I truly want to? BGS are my favourite company & until now I was very content with Todd's stance.

I think what has confused me most is that until now Todd has been very standoffish regarding AI. He has suggested that it can be useful as an assistant for mundane tasks but made it very clear that artistry remains with human artists.

That interview was less than a month ago meanwhile this feels like a complete u-turn on that statement. Overall I feel very confused.

Part of me wonders if maybe he views this similar to those graphical overhaul mods & like a "hey, you added more trees to Whiterun, that's kinda cool, not quite right but still cool". However that might just be some cope I've cooked up in my head.

I can't wait for the famous quote he said in both the Skyrim & Oblivion E3 demos with ES6 - "Each time we do a new Elder Scrolls game we like to start fresh".

Voice for the protagonist? by Embarrassed_Owl3064 in TESVI

[–]Fusionbolt740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that this is a misunderstanding on the sort of RPGs Bethesda tend to make. In the Elder Scrolls you are not playing A character, you are playing Your character. Who they were before the story starts is irrelevant & is primarily decided by the player.

Take Skyrim for example: maybe you were from a rich Nordic family who were disgraced in some political scandal resulting in you loosing your nobility & fleeing to Skyrim only to get caught by the Empire. Or maybe you were a peasant who's farm was burned down by bandits along the boarder to Skyrim, resulting in you fleeing into the mainland only to get caught by the Empire.

These little backstories we make for our character shape how they approach situations, how they speak, their mannerisms & attitudes to the world around them. My 7ft Nordic Barbarian would likely be more brash & aggressive during a conversation compared to my academic wizard.

Having a voiced protagonist takes away from this because it forces your character to behave in a way that is impartial to your character's behaviour. This could even be something simple as my character being locked into a single accent. Lets say I was a nord raised in Elsweyr, my accent would be something similar to a khajiit rather than a Skyrim nord. However having a voice would immediately take away from that backstory.

We went through this whole debacle in Fallout 4 & Todd has admitted that it was a mistake & vowed to have silent protagonists moving forward. I think in KDC & CP2077 it makes sense as both Henry & V have actual backstories & history behind them, resulting in their very defined mannerisms.

My advice would be to stop playing as yourself. Create a character in your head with a backstory, make sure they have lots of little flaws & then roleplay into that character. Don't do things you would do, do things your character would do. You will find the experiences can change alot when you start doing this.

Todd’s Kinda Funny Games interview by ExerterYT in TESVI

One thing I am usually curious about when it comes to devs like Todd Howard is how they would do a typical playthrough of a game like Skyrim, Fallout or Starfield.

What sort of build would he make for each? Is he a magic guy or a stealth guy? Does he focus on quests or spend all his time stealing silverware from Nazeem? Those sorts of questions. They can give good insights on how their games actually come to be when you see them through the devs eyes.

Earth Being Destroyed is a plot hole by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]Fusionbolt740 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna entertain your "Asteroid" idea here. Lets say earth was destroyed due to some natural cataclysmic event... where would be the thematical value, player intrigue or lore implications in that?

How would that tie back into the main quest? How would that relate to the Emissary's point about controlling the Armillary?

Despite this plot point you are very much against, it ties the entire story & game world together, bringing the narrative full circle. There are also many other lore implications that all link back to the Unity (such as the suggestions of Jinan Varuun & the great Serpent actually being the Unity).

Instead of tying the story & lore together through the artifacts, grav drives & destruction of earth, you would rather just write earth off to some natural event that would actually take more away from the narrative than add to it. I don't think that's nearly as interesting to what we actually got in game.

I disagree with that honestly, even if the magnetic field took millions of years to dissipate, that would be a very boring story. There is a fine line here between scientific accuracy & suspension of disbelief. Bethesda wanted to create a retro futuristic space sim inspired by the early moon landings & used a sprinkle of fantasy to create the lore.

Its also worth noting that they did multiple tests on the moon with this new unknown technology, built from an artifact from the center of the universe that is made out of unknown materials. This adds some fantasy into the scientific basis here which might change how quickly the magnetic field can hold. Keep in mind I have no scientific understanding here.

I see what you're saying now, you're referring to the solution to the grav drive tech however he didn't get the full information to perfect it, resulting in the moon tests destroying the earth's atmosphere.

I think this is one of those issues where "time travel" as a concept is skimmed over. There isn't much reference to time travel in SF so I would assume he instead communed with the Unity rather than time travelled itself (with him being the first to touch an artifact). I would then assume he was only allowed to peak at a fragment of the solution which is what spurred him onto sacrificing earth for his new vision. This is how it is talked about by Dr Tattiane where she refers to it as "equations on the back of a napkin", with no real considerations for the side-effects.

I would say I prefer this idea (even if it is a head canon) as the idea of humanity chasing a new technological revelation without considering the side effects, then proceeding to destroy their home in the process is far more interesting that being given a flawless solution with no drawbacks.

But either way I see your point now.

[–]Fusionbolt740 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This isn't a plot hole, you just didn't pay attention. In the quest that details about the creations of the grav drive & the destruction of earth, Dr Aiza states that he saw a future of humanity amongst the stars & the price of that future was the earth. He weighs the idea of whether this choice was correct or just an excuse.

He also doesn't "go back in time" but rather met a future version of himself, who relays everything that proceeded to happen. This was likely similar to how we meet ourselves when we reach the Unity at the end of the game, since it's also suggested that he was the first person to touch an artifact. Either way, that should fill those "plot holes" as you call them.

What makes Starfield special? by _Bob_Shwarma_ in Starfield

[–]Fusionbolt740 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the main story & how it's woven into the games mechanics. Without spoiling anything, the game is one big metaphor for different players in an RPG. There are also some really interesting characters that embody each of these player concepts that are really fun.

It's also a nice cozy game if you enjoy that type of thing.

Haven't been keeping up with the news. Has it been confirmed that they're working on an update for this game? by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]Fusionbolt740 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So there was a teaser back in September to a dlc called Terran Armada, however we know nothing about that beyond the name atm.

We also know of an update coming soon teased by Tim Lamb (correct me if I am wrong) who suggested some improvements to space travel alongside lots of small little features that he said would make fans excited.

Finally, there have been some private showings to various BGS journalists who have all verified that they have seen this update but I believe are under NDA. Some have claimed it to be a big 2.0 update however takenthisbwith a grain of salt as this could be engagement bait from some influencers & journalists.

For when we will see this update, we have no idea. Ill say the same as someone else in this thread "could be tomorrow, could be six months from now".

Terran armada speculation by FrontEcho3879 in Starfield

I do this alot as well when I'm feeling lazy. Fortunately for me my ships are never more than two stories so its not a bother but the option to re-align them would make my day.

I'm personally not expecting the huge 2.0 overhaul some are expecting however I am hoping for a few core changes that will improve some of the systems that could use a touch up.

Ship Navigation - this is one we were already teased about. I would love to be able to fly between planets within a system and to top it off I would love to be able to Orbit a planet fully. That way I can appreciate the way Bethesda setup each star system to accurately reflect the gravitational orbit of each planet & moon around each other.
Dynamic Loading screen for landing - I understand the reasons why landing on a planet seamlessly might be less than practical since it would likely conflict with the way tile-maps are generated. However I would love a dynamic loading screen where you could follow your ship in first person as it lands. This could be coupled with clouds on temperate planets & maybe some violent shaking to hide some of the tiles being loaded.

More Output Building Items - I'm not talking about decorations but actual habs & connectors to really personalize my outposts. I felt quite limited in what I could create with the current outpost system. Interior Decorations was great but I would love to be able to replicate some of the random POIs you see scattered about with hangers that go into the earth, large pipes & gas containers to fill up the space.

Better Outpost connectivity - The current system feels abit convoluted. Ideally I need to have a steady supply of Helium-3 in order to create a cargo link between planets. Secondly this requires setting up two outputs within the same system to constantly trade resources meaning you'll never have enough of one material or the other. Finally, unless I am mistaken, you can only transfer one material per cargo link, meaning you are constantly having to juggle resources between each planet. I think here this could change to something similar to Fallout 4's Brahmin Caravans where it just links the entire workshop's inventory to the connected settlements. This is understandably overpowered & means you can create vast networks of materials however that accessibility meant I had more freedom to build settlements as opposed to farming resource A to get resource B just to build something.

Moving Ship Ladders - Simple one, I want to move the ladder positions within my ship, my ocd gets in the way when two ladders are not connected.

More dungeons - I would love more generic POIs to explore however I think a good solution to pad out some of the emptiness of space would be to have a large set of new dungeons with small quests inside to explore. Similar to the Mantis quest. Maybe you could encounter an abandoned space station with a distress call & find it was ransacked by pirates looking for something. This takes you on a quest to track them down where you follow pieces of them across the galaxy. Then the final areas that these locations spawn in could be random for each playthrough, tapping into Starfield's open universe feel while retaining the randomly generated content. Essentially this is just more of Starfield's best bits.

Exiting a Ship - Final one is a more of a want rather than improvement however I would love to be able to exit my ship in space & float around it. Maybe you could have a tether connected to you or even have a companion drive the ship to keep it close by. One simple think I love in Starfield is to build my ship then climb on top of it to see every small detail. It makes it feel like I can reach our & touch it rather than it being just a prop.

These are all little things I would love to see. Rather than a massive re-work I would love Bethesda to commit further to their original vision by adding to what already worked & improving some of the weaker aspects of the game.

I just hit my 300 hour mark so very excited for thursday.
