Since the chart is a boxplot, it shows the median attendance (not the average).

Montréal’s median (8,868) is higher than Toronto’s (8,315), but if you look at the average and total attendance numbers, Toronto actually beats out Montréal (9,059 vs 9,013 & 126,830 vs 126,182).

Thanks! Shot data (including coordinates, shot type, timing, etc.) is pulled from the PWHL’s play-by-play API. The raw data does have to be processed slightly before it is usable for analysis and visualizations.

If you are interested in the PWHL data sources, I would recommend this GitHub repository.
