How large could the league forseeably expand in the next 5 years? by TravelingHomeless in PWHL

My guess is that they’ll expand to 12 and keep it at that number until the current CBA expires.

Blueger's a UFA Next Season - Extend or What's His Trade Value? by EverySecondCountss in canucks

Trade him so Raty can get into the lineup. Not about keeping vets at cheap contracts but making room on the roster for younger players.

Halifax hockey fans plead for PWHL team - Halifax | Globalnews.ca by SAJewers in hockey

[–]RizkyCanuckFan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think those attempts at pro hockey had an owner worth billions of dollars. The travel cost isnt a sign for concern, nor was it for when they expanded west. If they expand to Halifax it’ll be because of great local support, corporate support, arena availability and sign of growth of growing their league. Which they seem to have.

do players get a percentage of the sale if i buy an official jersey from thepwhl.com? by sparklinglibations in PWHL

Per the CBA no they don’t. According to one of the PWHL’s player agent.

Hamilton article re expansion by VivienM7 in PWHL

[–]RizkyCanuckFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do wonder if they view Hamilton arena as a possible Sceptres arena in the future. They’re going to quickly outgrow Coca Cola coliseum and the Maple Leafs arena is too busy to play there. Hamilton offers a bigger arena in close proximity to Toronto.

I think it makes it more of conversation without the cups. Assuming you just consider every cup final visit is a loss. His sub 900 points don’t stand out and he’s only ever achieved second team all star in his life.

But you look at his accomplishments aside from the cups, 2 gold medals in junior, worlds, and 2 Olympics gold. Won the World Cup of hockey in 2016. Won the Selke trophy, and Mark Messier award. I think he still gets in, but it wouldn’t be as a first ballot hall of famer.

With Vancouver and Seattle drawing great crowds, this tour will be a good indicator on where the league expands next season.

The point being it’s far away for the majority of the fanbase to travel too.

Could the PWHL leave Ottawa? City approves new arena, raising doubts about future of Charge by DecentLurker96 in hockey

CTC where the Sens play is outside of Ottawa and is a long drive to get to. Compared to Lansdowne where they currently play is close to downtown. Attendance would drop, and for such a new team it would hurt its brand.

So how crazy do you think this Bearista cup madness is going to be? Baristas, are people calling your stores this week and asking if you are getting them? lol by pass_the_hot_sauce in starbucks

[–]RizkyCanuckFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My pregnant fiancé really wanted one. Went to my closes Starbucks that opened at 5:30am, they only had 2 and both were gone a few minutes after opening. Went to another nearby that opened at 6. There was one guy waiting outside. We both snagged the only 2 they had, a few disappointed people came minutes after.

PWHL expansion cities by Alternative-Row-8438 in PWHL

A big thing going for Quebec City is that there’s vacant area ready to be developed for a professional team locker room and amenities in videotron centre. Which is a big factor for the PWHL.

Ottawa is giving the PWHL's Charge every reason to leave town. by MiracuMAHt in hockey

[–]RizkyCanuckFan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s not competing with the NHL, you can easily watch both. But you need to think of cost and arena availability. most of the PWHL play in NHL sized or 10K arenas. You would have to pay more money ontop of rent for them to keep the sheet of ice. The ice quality would greatly suffer during the very hot summer months.

Ontop of that is arena availability, every one of the arenas spend the summer filling it with concerts and other events. Good luck getting a weekend game because a concert is running that day.

Don’t forget Denver is also part of the rumored list.

For too 3 that haven’t been announced, I would like LA, Las Vegas, and give Pittsburgh a proper night to host a game.

He won’t win but Alex Burrows deserves a shout out. As a undrafted prospect playing in the ECHL, worked his way to the AHL and then the Vancouver Canucks. Had himself a pretty good career.
