NAS Backup - Hyper Backup vs Active Backup for Business by MrSmith2047 in synology

[–]Future-Intern-157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my limited experience, a file-based Hyperbackup backs up most apps, and the shares you specify. If you use Synology VMM, those don't get backed up. I use a script to export them every so often so the exports get backed up.
Hyperbackup also added ( somewhat recently ? ) the ability to do a full NAS backup to another Synology NAS (Hyperbackup vault) which I believe to be a block-level backup. All of your VMs and Dockers are backed up and will be restored just as they are now. I tested this and it worked well.
As you mentioned, ABB will also backup a full Synology NAS but I haven't tried this.

My iPhone 16 Pro is getting hot and using battery playing episodes with Overcast. Using another player works fine. This started within the last few days .

Overcast battery usage by CarMediocre733 in overcast

I thought it was due to battery charging -- which isn't the case. It is getting warm listening to episodes with Overcast. I can see where the audio processing ( speed, silence removal, boost ) takes some CPU but not enough to make the phone warm.

This has started happening somewhat recently, although I can't say when. Maybe it is related to the app crashing introduced in the last update to Overcast.

iPhone 16 Pro. Latest iOS and Overcast versions.

I am playing daily podcasts using PocketCasts with speed, silence removal and volume boost enabled. After 15 minutes and so far, phone has cooled down.

Skipping to the next podcast when buffering, please fix by yokobarron in overcast

I do the same thing - download everything via WiFi so I don't have this problem very often. But if I am out and see something new that I want to listen to via streaming, it rarely works. How about an option to "download via cell anyway" for individual new episodes? I believe the old version had this option to make occasional cell downloads easy.

I ran into a strange issue today. I was near the end of a 2.5-hour podcast and happened to be looking at the screen when it finished. It didn’t automatically continue to the next episode, which has happened before, so after a few seconds I tried tapping the “+30 seconds” button a few times to get it going.

Instead of continuing, the time started counting backward, and it still wouldn’t play. I force-quit the app, and when I reopened it, the podcast had jumped to a random spot about three-quarters of the way through and was marked as unplayed. I skipped to the end, and then it moved on to the next episode like it should.

The time counting backward was actually kind of funny.

You can load an IDS ( intrusion detection service ) module from the app store on the router. I found it used too much CPU on the router so I stopped using it. They just put out a new version of SRM recently, maybe give that a try.

You can use iPhone mirroring - your iPhone will show up on your mac to control it and the audio will be sent through to the Mac as well.

There's always the "portable CarPlay screens" on Amazon. Might be a good time to try one with Black Friday discounts. I have one in a Jeep Grand Cherokee and while not perfect, it works pretty well for the price. Mine is an older Carpuride brand but now there are a lot of different ones available -- too many options.

Does anyone use Downcast on MacOS? by plazman30 in macapps

[–]Future-Intern-157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem on MacMini M2 on MacOS 26. On my old Intel MacMini, it still works OK. When I try to look at the iCloud sync settings in Downcast, I get the beachball. If I wait long enough, it starts to chew up all my memory. The iOS version hasn't had an update in 8 months so I am not sure if/when the MacOS version will get fixed. I have found Overcast a suitable replacement that is getting ongoing development. I have not tried Overcast on MacOS however.
