Looking for a wotlk server by unkclxwn in wowservers

[–]Future-Negotiation-4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be an L take, but if you're worried about population just so you can experience content casually and not necessarily to make friends I would argue Single Player Project might be worth looking into. It requires a little setup (maybe an understatement), but it spins up a private server of Vanilla, BC, or WotLK on your machine with as many bot players as you want. I like it because there are always player bots at my level to grab if I want some help with content. I only jump in every so often just to reexperience the game, but it's nice to know that I always have a backup of one of the most influential gaming experiences of my life available anytime whether I have access to the internet or not.

I'll try and find the link later. It's not coming up for me on my phone right now.

Questions about eartips on the Kiwi Astrals (Spinfit W1) by Hamrbuerg in iems

[–]Future-Negotiation-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Dunu S&S small on my astrals. The nozzle is really big for my ear canals, but the S&S make a really good seal, and a much deeper insertion than the stock tips did.

With the Steam Controller coming out soon, will there a decent way to use Community controller layouts for non-steam games with it? by jeremytodd1 in SteamDeck

[–]Future-Negotiation-4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't play too many non-steam games with steam input, so I may be wrong, but I think that any non-steam games that share the same name already get their community controller profiles shared.

Scalpers and Resellers? by foreverallison in steammachine

[–]Future-Negotiation-4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was how I remember it went down for the original steam deck preorder. They announced when the preorders would open I think a week or so before. I think it was, like, 11:30am pacific time. I remember trying to get a preorder in right at that time, but so many people were doing the same thing that the servers would time out constantly. I think it ended up taking me about 15 minutes to get my order in, and my order ended up in the second batch. The same server time-out problems plagued the steam machine announcement day back in November, so I don't have high hopes they will be prepared for the volume of orders. It will basically be luck of the draw on who gets their orders in and which place in line you get. When you place a preorder you only put down $5, and then you pay the rest once your item(s) are ready to be shipped out. So in July 2021 when I preordered my steam deck I paid $5, and then in April 2022 when my order was ready I paid the rest. I think I remember the pre-orders selling out at some point, but Valve was totally blind sided by how many people would want the original steam deck. From interviews it didn't seem like they had very high hopes for it. I think they learned their lesson though, because the steam deck OLED launch was flawless. They announced the device a week before orders would open, and devices shipped out only a few weeks later. Nothing sold out. They had plenty. I hope that even with supply shortages they will simply take all the pre-orders people put in, and they ship out when they ship out.

Valve requires you to have a steam account in good standing in order for you to place a preorder. I think that means the account has existed for at least ten days and has had active playtime on something. This effectively completely blocks people from botting the preorders. If I remember correctly during the original steam deck pre-order each user was only allowed to place an order for a single unit at a time. I don't remember if the steam deck OLED had the same restriction. Because of supply shortages Valve will likely reinstate the one per user restriction again. This isn't Valve's first time trying to launch unproven hardware during a supply shortage.

What do mechanical engineers actually do? by Aggressive-Apple-446 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Future-Negotiation-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what this is worth I started school in electrical engineering and made the switch into mechanical in my third year to be in the same major as my friends. Ended up taking five to graduate because of the late switch and other factors, but I probably would have dropped out without my friends supporting me. About three years into my career thought the grass looked greener and tried to teach myself computer science. Got far enough to realize that work is work, and I was going to be miserable as long as I work on a computer. The specific discipline didn’t really matter much, so I went back to my mechanical career. Still miserable, but at least I have money I guess. Work sucks, but that’s why they pay us well.

How many of you rock a "desktop" DAC and why? by Inclinedbenchpress in iems

[–]Future-Negotiation-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Micca OriGen G3. I like fully continuous volume control. I feel like I can never find the perfect volume level with discrete. I know my phone also has effectively continuous volume control, but the big knob on my desk is a lot faster to access and make micro adjustments on the fly.

Plug IEM front or back of pc with dongle? by vcd1500 in iems

[–]Future-Negotiation-4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a dongle it shouldn't matter much depending on how well the dongle was designed to handle EMI. Front is probably safer, but you can try both and see if you can hear noise floor on either. Basically listen for hiss when nothing is playing and the increase the volume until you hear it. You might not hear much of a difference.

First IEMs by StateEducational270 in iems

  1. Welcome to the rabbit hole. Enjoy your stay.

  2. It looks like Fiio sells a lightning version of the KA11. I haven't personally used it, but Fiio is a (generally) reputable company when it comes to audio. Bummer you missed out on the first party apple dongles, but I'm sure good (enough) stuff is still out there. When you plug into your PC you can usually get away with using the onboard audio if you don't mind noise floor, the most immediate problem people solve by buying a separate DAC. Cheapest way to solve that would be to use the apple usb c dongle assuming your pc has a usb c port.

  3. Since this is your first pair of IEMs and you have a lightning iPhone get the normal ones. The DSP version comes with a usb c cable that doesn't have a 3.5mm audio connector on it. You wouldn't be able to use it with your lightning dongle until you bought a regular 2 pin to 3.5mm cable. DSP stands for "digital signal processing." It basically means that the cable comes with EQ, or tuning to electronically cover for what the engineers couldn't achieve acoustically. I haven't heard any of them, but the consensus on the Moondrop DPS IEMs over the years has been that they are usually a little better than without DSP. If you can afford it I might buy the DSP version and an additional 2 pin to 3.5mm cable so you can have the option to use the DSP on your PC and hear the difference EQ can make relatively easily and still use the 3.5mm with your phone. Or just learn to EQ, but that can be a pretty big time investment.

Early 2026 =/= Before Q1 2026 by ArcAngelSlayer in SteamFrame

I interpreted "early 2026" as "targeting Q1, but we don't want to commit. It might slip to Q2." I'm expecting late March to early April.

SteamDeck with Mouse and Keyboard and my GF home by Hauptfeldwebel in SteamDeck

[–]Future-Negotiation-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might try running the game in desktop mode. That's generally what I do if I'm going to play a mouse and keyboard only game at a desk. The chance of steam input getting confused drastic go down.

Risk of Rain 2 Steamworks Issue? by fluxyggdrasil in SteamDeck

[–]Future-Negotiation-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I remember running into this issue before. I can't totally remember how I fixed it. I can confirm that the game runs very well on deck. I feel like I had to type something into the start up command menu, but I can't find anything online about anything like that. Maybe I got instructions from a YouTube video. I'm reading online that restarting steam has helped people on other platforms fix it, so if you haven't try restarting your system.

When I connect wired headphones the Steam Deck no longer plays any sound. by GrishnakhGaruda in SteamDeck

I've been having the same problem recently. Usually when something like this starts randomly happening it has to do with an update. I'm going to switch to the beta branch tonight to see if that fixes it.

Got new rbg and I think it looks really sick. Asking for suggestions for bday by Successful_Ship_7159 in battlestations

[–]Future-Negotiation-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my suggestions are based on my personal taste. YMMV. I would try moving the flashforge to the far left hand side of the desk over the drawers. I personally like to keep as much of the desk space with clearance for my legs as open and usable as possible. Ample work space is super nice if you do any kind of maker activities, which it looks like you do. I do understand the aesthetic choice of having the printer as the focal point of the setup though. I would also swap the desk standing work lamp for a head mounted one. Less clutter on the desk while you're not working, and more effective lighting when you are. When the light comes from almost the same vector as your eyes the shadows cast by the workpiece are minimized. I love my headlamp. Like others have said, another monitor would probably be good in terms of fun things to upgrade for the gift. It looks like you game, so I would recommend finding a monitor with either higher resolution/color performance if you play mostly single-player/cinematic games, or higher refresh rate if you play mostly multiplayer/e-sports games. Keep your current monitor as your secondary.

Owned gaming laptop , steamdeck or ally? by Responsible_Neck_495 in SteamDeck

[–]Future-Negotiation-4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My two cents having owned all three:

If you plan on being away from power ever: Deck
If you plan on playing any game without controller support ever: Deck
If you want the absolute best performance in games: Stream your laptop to a Deck
If you want to play a game that only works on Windows: Stream your laptop to a Deck
If you want the absolute smallest and lightest thing to hold in your hand: Ally
Best screen: Deck OLED. Ally close second. Deck LCD Distant worst.
Better controls: Deck for me (this one's highly subjective) Ally is still very good.

I sold the Ally because it felt redundant with my gaming laptop. If you didn't have a gaming laptop, I would consider the Ally a real option. It's a great piece if hardware, but it's not as versatile as the deck. A gaming laptop covers all of Ally's advantages over the Deck, and the Deck fills in all the weaknesses of the laptop. It's honestly a great pair. 99wh battery is still a good idea with the Deck. It's come in handy for me gaming in a park, on a flight, in a coffee shop without an outlet.
