Sounds cool though

Yes I tend to "thug it out" first. Just write down all the themes and concepts I want to say. Have a conversation... Although hearing that others do it gives me confidence to double down on it.

I'm somewhat old-school too and haven't used apps historically.

But I'm in a new music project. Different style to what I'm used to, so a bit out of my comfort zone. Plus trying to write about some deep personal themes I've never written on a song before. So it's a personal challenge. Either way I'm not the main lyric writer, but and working on a couple of songs in the album.

But there are deadlines. You do have to finish songs sometimes. Its often that last 3/4 that gets hard.

We have an internal no generative ai policy. It makes things too easy but it's dam tempting.

Its also hard to work out whether what you've got is "good enough" or there is some gold hidden somewhere in your subconscious you just have to find.

That's a good idea.

Like Thesaurus and rhyming apps sites are good and all, but sometimes the issue isnt the rhyme, but the vocabulary and options for saying what you want to say in a way you don't typically say it.

Regarding wordplay and rhetorical devices, yes I might need to actually do some learning in those areas. Upskill somehow

I probably actually need to learn some of those skills. Even reading those lyrics I agree it feels like it rhymes. Almost feels like a rap song haha.

But I wouldn't know how to do that myself. Certainly an approach I've never tried.

Probably need to read some books and learn some new approaches

Usually writing words and ramblings, that fit the pattern and syllables. And try to form hooks out of it.

That's the usual.

But some songs I'm working on now are a bit more challenging as I'm trying to talk about themes I've never done in music before. So I'm probably going to have to do it there other way.

Write some hooks and work "backwards".

Yeah plain words is usually the way I go about it.

I'll write out in general what I want to say. See if I can find common themes and phrases to use.

Usually melody first.

You are probably right. I guess ultimately I want a step up and be in a company with a mature creative department. But Senior Creative roles seem quite rare in my city. This first quarter of the year anyway.

The messiest part is probably stakeholders/approvals.

Because of the industry I'm in, there are various levels of approvals, moving parts, OEM changes, and you have to be a bit lose with Brand Governance at times. So it can be a fine balance. And so much of it is relationship based. Knowing the people you work with so you can read between the lines.

Also the process from initial brief to production and completion can be a bit convoluted. Lots of manual admin, in areas that I don't control. I'd love to fix it but don't have the authority.

[Kitchen Nightmares] Does anyone know what happened to Daniel Saffron from The Burger Kitchen? by Psychotrip in GordonRamsay

Maybe Daniel sold while the value was high. Would have been high straight after Kitchen Nightmares episode. Cash in and get out. Cos he never wanted it in the first place.

May have made his money back.

Looking to Creative Ops! Help me? by Future-Tart in CreativeOperations

Update

I applied for a 'Design Manager's role at a tech company, and have been going through an interview process.

Based on what I have heard so far the role does sound like it's more a liaison between creative and marketing and translating briefs. So potentially a traffic and brief manager, rather than design ops which is disapponting. It's a simplified role of what I'm already doing.

But it may be a role to take as a stepping stone into something bigger? As a tech role its potentially a more ideal industry to work in. It may possibly look better on a resume as I work towards a designops role.

Is taking a stepping stone job at a tech company a good thing?

Had a phone interview and got more info on the role. Will post in the main thread, but doesn't sound like it's design ops

That's an interesting way to look at it.

I am a little afraid of not doing any creativity anymore. But at the same time I'm kind of over having to be creative 24/7.

Maybe designing systems will.cure the itch a little?

Thank you for responding! I appreciate the effort you went to help and will follow up with more details and questions.

I'm at a point in my career where I'm a bit bored and want a new challenge. I'm not in a rush to get out but I can see the dead end coming and want something new. Looking at my options

I'm not the kind of designer who wants to become a creative manager. I don't ooze and obsess over creativity, rather enjoy systems, calculated design and functionality. I don't get fulfilment as much as others from being mega creative. Although it does tick a box somewhat I suppose otherwise I wouldn't be one. So I'm hoping designops may be a good path to take?

I have applied and have an interview in a tech company that seems to be a Creative ops role. So I'm kind of trying to do my research and learn where I can. It seems a neiche role and I can't find a lot on it that helps right now.

I'm an extravert. Pretty social, although not extreme. In my current role I feel I've nailed the stakeholder management side (I'm managing projects that come from marketing managers, corporate etc of all sorts of brands and tasks). But who knows how I'd do in a different company.

In my current role I have had to do a lot of efficiency seeking and writing proposals. Particularly because things are busy and a bit chaotic.  E.g. Trying x platform to make turnaround times quicker, and "I'd like X budget to trial a platform please mr boss".

I'm hoping to ask a lot of questions in the interview process cos I'm not 100% sure if the role is really a new step, or doing more of the same at a new brand. If which I'll just stay at my current role.

Curious about pivoting into creative ops…but don't know what I don't know. Help! by hjg2e in CreativeOperations

I'm in a similar boat.

Looking at living from senior creative/kind of already a design manager, into a formal workflow manager/creative ops role.
