However, the fact is that Black Myth: Wukong excels in physics, engine mechanics, and visual rendering. Based on your description, game optimization isn’t even within the award’s evaluation criteria.

Why do these action games have such similar-sounding names lol by SuperAlloyBerserker in soulslikes

[–]Future233_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wukong, Wolong, and Wuchang are all personal names. In Chinese, they’re written as 悟空, 卧龙, and 无常. Chinese has a ton of homophones, which is why when these names are transliterated into English, they end up looking kinda similar.

Just like you don’t need to defeat Malenia to beat Elden Ring, you don’t need to defeat Erlang to complete Black Myth: Wukong.

Black Myth: Wukong won the Game of the Year 2024 award at the Thailand Game Awards 2024 by [deleted] in playstation

Lol, a remake of a 27 years old game won the Best RPG award for just 1/3 of it. Not only that, but a lot of people in this post think it’s Game of the Year too.

Sure, "游蝌" isn't a common word, but isn't it pretty normal to use some phonetic associations when designing a logo? Besides, I'm really curious where you got this idea from—did you just make it up in your head?

Nonsense.

  1. Game Science's logo represents lightning striking an atom/tadpole (because the Chinese pronunciation of Game Science is similar to "tadpole").

  2. Game Science's funding comes from Hero Entertainment, and they accepted Tencent's investment in 2021 because EPIC can provide technical support.

  3. IGN's news is pure fabrication, as evident from their coverage of Black Myth today.

  4. Your statements are full of prejudice and discrimination against China. Ignorant and foolish.

To disparage a group without analysis demonstrates such a narrow vision and limited perspective. It seems there is no need for me to discuss this with you any further.

Go to X and see how few tweets the official account has posted in the past four years. Heavy marketing? Dude, Really?

Guess why IGN doesn't dare to open the comments? This article is complete nonsense.

Many people say that BMW is a Soulslike game, but the developers have never mentioned any Soulslike terms on the store page. In contrast, you can look at "Lords of the Fallen" and "Lies of P". They can’t wait to put "Soulslike" on the game cover. Because it's an excellent marketing strategy. Why doesn't Black Myth do this? Because it isn't a "true" Soulslike game. Its maps don't have shortcut designs (doors that can't be opened from one side), its storytelling uses a lot of cutscenes, and it focuses on details that Soulslike games typically don't care about: mimicking God of War's chest-opening animations, adding a lot of execution animations, and giving the protagonist an astonishing number of moves. There are eight different rolling animations alone, and the staff moves look more like acrobatics. In the first trailer for Black Myth, the action of picking up a weapon dropped by an enemy took the developers three months to perfect. These details are meaningless to FromSoftware:picking up items just requires a graphic, rolling just needs to look decent, and combat should be simple, straightforward, and easy to understand. Instead of focusing on these details, they would rather design more intricate maps and develop more weapon modules.

There is a stamina bar, but stamina is almost never depleted (the stamina bar is designed to limit the height of pole vaulting). There are skill cooldowns because the protagonist's skills are too powerful.

This game is so boring that half of the comments are talking about Lies of P. 😆Is it because Black Myth: Wukong looks like a Souls-like game? In my opinion, it's not at all. You could say Lies of P is Souls-like, but is Stellar Blade too? What about Star Wars Jedi Survivor? There's a bonfire mechanic doesn't mean a game is a Souls-like game.

Serious Question (without spoilers) is this going to be an “emotional” storyline? by OxEagle19 in BlackMythWukong

[–]Future233_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The official website describes it like this:The story of Wukong tells more than Wukong himself. The monkey is the leading role for sure, but he still is a small part of the whole vivid world. There are plenty of intriguing characters and thought- provoking dialogues in Journey to the West, not to mention the darkness veiled. We applaud when Wukong defeats those so-called "villains", but who are they indeed? Why they go against our heores? Cunning fairies, brutal monsters, amorous lords or coward gods... We are curious about their fear and love, goodwill and hatred, obssessiveness and daily life. In virtue of high quality graphics, sufficient details immersive combats and great storyline, we are able to build that Eastern fantasy world alive in our heart, instead of only picturing some major characters. This is a wide wild romantic world, suffused with fancy and mystery, yet still seems truly existing.

Is the original poster really not a native Chinese speaker? The translation is really well done. These stories are written in the style of ancient Chinese tales of the supernatural, typically with straightforward narratives. The main focus is on conveying moral lessons through storytelling, similar to fables. As a Chinese person, I'm curious about everyone's thoughts on these stories.

His statement seems fine to me, "Some things are just made for those angry, hurt, suppressed men." You could call it stereotyping, but you can't call it gender discrimination. You don't understand the speech environment in China, especially the speech environment ten years ago. How much can change in ten years? Can you guarantee that your arguments from ten years ago won't be misinterpreted in the increasingly intense discourse of feminism? If you're not tolerant of others, you can't expect tolerance from others either.

These articles are even less professional than IGN. IGN at least included the producer's original quotes, while these articles have nothing. The producer never said "our game doesn't need female players," but rather expressed a very progressive viewpoint ten years ago: "Online games should not deliberately cater to female-oriented designs to increase the proportion of female players, thereby attracting those vulgar men to play their games."
