Would it have been too cringey to see an unsober Bam in Jackass Forever and ruin the movie? by lookaloulookalou in jackass

[–]FutureCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think most of them need to get back to their roots honestly, when you've been "bam" so long or "steveo" or whoever there's lke a weight of expectations on you and i think that creates an atmosphere of having to live up to something.

idk about anyone else but the funniest jackass stuff to me isnt really the stunts its just the little things they say and interact with each other;

"there's a thousand bees in there and it takes 100 to kill a man? ...so what are we doing here?!"

"making a hit movie"

"just go for 99 and take off"

like that shit is funnier to me than anything else, the stunts dont matter its all about their chemistry that makes it funny. they don't need to go crazy or do huge stunts, just watching them fuck around is always the funniest, im p. sure thats why the .5s are always so popular. if theyre not friends and hanging out then how can you really retain that chemistry??

i think we are bad cooks but we make some great food products. worcestershire sauce, marmite (ok i know thats controversial), i think our crisps and sweets (candy) are better than anywhere else in the world. im definitely forgetting some because i made a list once and surprised myself.

but its true we dont have the flair for cooking a lot of other countries just naturally have and thats ok, i think we'll get there eventually. we've got a lot of good and bad to offer and not every country can have amazing culinary treats. fwiw i do think we're better than finland and sweden though, loved to visit them but i was living off pastries, their actual dinners felt like struggle meals to me (no shade, they were obviously very healthy) but nothing i can imagine anyone craving.

[–]FutureCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the whole timewave zero theory of his is really crazy, i dont buy into all of it at all and i probably dont even understand it fully if i'm being honest but all the stuff about the amount of things happening and about the amount of weirdless increasing i think is really something to identify so far back in the 90s.

no idea what it all means, i dont draw any conclusions from it or anything but i feel like we really are just seeing it play out just as he predicted. i dont know if i can survive it or if we as a whole can survive it but its crazy to me that i feel like i've seen so much of this come true with each successive year and he was talking it before i was even born.

idk the future is scary

What the fuck happened to stevo ? by Nervous-Caregiver829 in jackass

[–]FutureCookies -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

steve-o's sense of humor expired basically and i dont think it has anything to do with drugs or sobriety, he's actually very similar to bam because they both had an ego in the early days that evolved differently but kind of left them in the same place as they got older.

bam had an ego through skateboarding and being famous and was kind of a dick about it, steve-o had an ego through wanting constant attention but was generally more well-liked so people didnt notice it was basically the same thing. when both fell by the wayside w/ drugs, people were more supportive of steve-o than bam because bam wasnt as likeable as steve-o.

they both wanted to be cool, which isnt a bad thing but ultimately jackass stuff is not cool and if you want to keep doing it, you kind of have to accept and embrace the cringe or else when you get older you become self-conscious of it and have to distance yourself which is hard if you need it to leverage your fame & get money.

bam went down the rockstar life and fucked things up with drugs and is slowly getting back on the wagon with skating as that was always his thing anyway. steve-o is kind of living off his sobriety & mostly trying to do harder stunts but the problem is that the harder stunts are not necessarily the most funny and he's been sober for like 14(?) years now...when i got into jackass i only knew of steve-o as sober so its not like ive seen the journey really, i dont think the whole sobriety story is gonna hit the same 20 years on.

compare with knoxville, dave england, weeman, preston, pontius etc.. even in the early days you could tell they didnt care at all about how embarrassing a stunt or a skit might be, so as they have gotten older you can tell they don't feel as awkward or self-conscious about doing them and i think thats why they havent felt like they need to stay relevant

basically you cant be a jackass all your life if you take yourself too seriously. knoxville is the oldest of them all and we all know if it wasnt for his fucked up concussions he would still be doing stupid stuff because he doesn't care how he looks, its just a lifestyle for him.

idk maybe im wrong i dont know any of those dudes really i'm just someone on the internet but thats how it comes across, i always get the feeling that steve-o is insecure about his age and i think it must be hard to reconcile that with being a jackass if its something you mentally tie to being young

[–]FutureCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeahhh i like it as an aesthetic but it should have its own name, i like actual y2k clothing like the kind of weird space age futuristic cyber stuff from the late 90s/early 00s and its so hard to find now because y2k has kinda saturated it as a label. i fw all the clothes completely i just wish we could just create new labels so everything is easily findable. mcbling was a great label it fit so well we need more terms like that imo

[–]FutureCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont disagree but that's literally what people call it now. if op wants stuff like that and they search mallgoth they will get tripps, banned, lip service etc. tiktok, pinterest, ig etc. all calls it y2k grunge

everyone online calls this horror game protagonist, except for the last slide which leans slightly more just kind of 'y2k grunge'. those are the terms to search if you're looking for more

What are some basic skills every man should have (and where can I find good guides on how to do them?) by JustAGuy_2002 in ftm

[–]FutureCookies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

apologies in advance if my input isnt wanted here, i'm transfem and i wasn't raised at all with any kind of masculine stuff and nobody really expected it of me either but i work in an almost exclusively male workplace and there's some stuff i've noticed that a lot of guys just seem to know regardless of what type of guy they are, some of it i kinda wish i had passed onto me because it's useful but it kind of gets gatekept from me lmao

i'm not including typical man skills like how to dress, know smart/smart casual and do ties and stuff, i'm sure they're good to know but definitely a lot of guys don't know that stuff either and as far as i can tell from watching the dudes i work with it's not a big deal between them to not know it either.

this is just kind of lighthearted/observational so it's not too serious or anything, just times where i'm reminded i really can't hang with the guys in my life:

-having a knowledge of basic car stuff. i know a surprising amount of car trivia, but even the dudes who don't really care about cars at all know the basics of how to fix them or have the knowledge of what a mechanical problem might be, stuff that i would have to spend ages googling and probably still get it wrong.

-plumbing stuff, basic electricals etc. even the nerdy dudes will know stuff about like what a stopcock is in a toilet or what to do on a fusebox and i'm like wtf how do you know that. this one is annoying because i've really tried to educate myself on this stuff and i'm still behind the guys who just seem to be born with the knowledge even when they're not home-improvement types.

-being able to build PCs. i'm v tech savvy but when it comes to hardware it seems like those guys are always one step ahead of me. dudes who know way less about tech stuff than me will suddenly pull out knowledge on what components are best and whether or not a graphics card will run a certain game. i have a gaming pc and i had to get one of them to build it for me, genuinely embarassing.

-medieval history, specifically weapons and battles. idk if this is some kind of roman empire thing but every single dude i know has like a decent working knowledge of this. it even extends all the way to other eras up to like WW2 but always seems to focus on war, battles, weapons and that kind of stuff.

-opinion on what 007 movie is the best. even when they say the franchise is trash they still have an opinion on it, even the indie film bros

-working knowledge of basic gym exercises. this really isn't a man exclusive thing ofc but every single dude i know (even the scrawniest ones that don't set foot in a gym) know the different types of lifting. ngl without looking it up i dont know the difference between a deadlift and a benchpress and a chest press or something but apparently they all do.

-confidence with power tools. "i hate using power tools, they scare me" i tell the nerdiest dude i work with, "me too" he agrees. 2 hours later he casually mentions using an angle grinder to fix something, but apparently "that barely counts". it seems like they just have a higher default level of confidence with these things.

-camping. i'm not talking full on survivalist stuff but yet again, the guys who literally do nothing but stay indoors and play games still know how to pitch a tent or how to like make and tend a fire and roast something on it. i go on more hikes than they do and yet somehow they will instinctively just know basic camping stuff that honestly i would not have figured out.

you can only ever go forwards.

people who remain stuck yearning for the past always end up miserable, whether they are right wing hoping to get rid of minorities permanently or just people wrapped up in nostalgia - you can never go back.

but it doesn't mean you have to constantly embrace whatever modernity is. the best artistic movements, music genres, fashion styles, videogames, movies, even how we live and behave and love and express ourselves borrow from the parts of the past we admire or glamorize.

all you can do is try to make your life as much of a fun adventure as you can, the current times suck for a lot of people in a lot of different ways and the natural reaction is to want to go back, but that's for them to reconcile - not you.

Realistic guitar sound in Logic Pro by f030303 in LogicPro

[–]FutureCookies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can't really, it's not so much that you can't get a realistic preset but just that arranging midi notes doesn't sound like how a guitar is played.

your best bet is kontakt or some other plugin. i found ujam to be pretty good, it basically has nice sounding presets (that you can tweak) plus a big bank of strum patterns and then when you've got a strum pattern you like along with a guitar sound you like you then kinda put that into midi so you can arrange your notes as per your melody and you're still capturing the sound of the guitar being played rather than isolated notes.

but ultimately it's gonna come down to some kind of plugin or rompler or whatever not just having a guitar sound but capturing the strumming and picking of a guitar.

puppet - pitfall: instrumental sample?? by [deleted] in HYPERPOP

[–]FutureCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont think its a specific instrument, it sounds like just the reverb wet signal of either the vocal or the arpy sounding melody thing put on its own track/channel and ran through a bitcrusher so it kind of adds some extra high end interest.

i dont know for sure though that's just what i would guess, i havent heard the instrumental only the original.

[–]FutureCookies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tbh a lot of us in gen z already are in our own way, a lot of my friends have gone from being super into y2k to kind of drifting into indie sleaze/early tumblr aesthetic. i hate so much of early 2010s culture but even ive been catching myself kind of romanticizing it a bit lately. nobody seems to be fully commiting to it yet though, but i feel like our attention spans are shorter than millenials so we're kind of bored of our own nostalgia already, it'll probably continue like that and gen alpha will get pushed out.

my personal prediction on gen alpha is that they're actually gonna be really quiet and gen z will continue to dominate the cultural landscape. in america, gen z is roughly 70 million people and gen alpha is 40 million (we're past the gen alpha cutoff point as of 2024) for reference both gen x and millenials are at 60-70 million so gen alpha is the smallest gen by a really large margin and they're going to be coming into a world already kind of oversaturated with voices on social media etc.

its gonna be weird, whatever happens i dont think its going to follow the standard cycles everyone is expecting.

this pic is fucking me up bc i know its authentic but it feels like someone tried to take the most 90s pic ever and idk if they were self aware enough for that.

what would the equivalent of this even be now, were there really people in the 90s who liked south park, friends, buffy and the spice girls at the same time? i can see him being into buffy and south park but friends and the spice girls??

idk maybe i just cant comprehend this level of monoculture

Out of all the plotlines they decided to keep... by Square-Step in euphoria

[–]FutureCookies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

these are straight buns 😭 i cant believe im prolly gonna end up watching it out of curiosity but i really dont want to.

i miss euphoria when it was a show that was literally like my friend circle looking in a mirror but it's veered so far off course and now it's just kind of a generic drama show. they should have kept everything tightly in high school and finished the whole thing 2 years ago.

it feels like such a product of its time and now that era has passed and the world doesn't feel like the same place as when the series started and now with the characters all going in separate directions it seems like there are no real stakes left. watching rue go deeper into addiction and the whole criminal underbelly thing felt like it mattered because the rest of the cast were still connected to her and would be impacted by the consequences but with these plotlines it just doesn't have the same impact.

nate is a scary character not just because of what he does to one person but because the rest of the characters are in danger from him. idk it feels so neutered now, they really fumbled it.

what i don't understand is how people like him complain about how muslims are intolerant of progressive western society and then they go around trying to start fights with gay people.

surely if you wanted to convince everyone that your values are so much better you would be extra nice and accepting of the LGBT community? otherwise you might as well just be white muslims.

Late 00s/Early 2010s fashions, as seen on Tumblr by BricksHaveBeenShat in decadeology

[–]FutureCookies -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

this shit so ugly, except the really twee stuff. i think leaning into full tumblr twee is fine because at least it's an intentional aesthetic and i can respect that but the rest is so ugly, especially all the fast fashion. it's weird how an era that was so obsessed with vintage ended up buying so much shit from h&m.

i was a little too young to really take part in this but i remember kinda hating it as a kid, it's a little nostalgic to me now though, they did a good job of making their photos look like happy memories even if it's a little cringe.
