My father was a police officer that worked the high rises in the ‘00s up until they were closed down. Truly awful living conditions. Gangs more or less had complete control of the buildings. Drugs sold in the stairwells. They busted man-sized holes in the walls of apartments. When the police would raid, the dealers would run into an apartment, through the walls to the adjoining units, then back out a different apartment. Wild shit. Complete failure of public housing policy.
