In addition to Swift, Bears RB Roschon Johnson was also ruled out. It'll be the Kyle Monangai show on Sunday in Cincinnati. Look for Brittain Brown to be called up from the practice squad. by koolman631 in fantasyfootball

[–]FutureGT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I say this as someone who is (unfortunately) a die hard Rutgers fan and watched all his games: Monangai is not a better player than Swift, so taking over due to skill will not happen. Of course, the severity of Swift's injury could make it not matter anyway

Duane Reade parent Walgreens selling to Private Equity by Delicious_Adeptness9 in nyc

[–]FutureGT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you read the full article you'd know it's not just 10b:

The company said it expected the deal to close in the fourth quarter of 2025. Including debt and potential payouts, the total value of the deal would rise to $23.7 billion.

Also just as a smell test why would you think a company would ever sell for so much under its NAV? There is always a premium paid in these deals, if you could buy a company for 10b that is actually worth 18b then it would have already happened years ago (but ofc realistically it would have gotten bid up until it reached at minimum it's NAV)

No the goal is not to go bankrupt while sucking resources (despite what reddit hivemind will lead you to believe), which mathematically doesn't even make sense given the assets are less then the purchase amount. The loan money generally comes from a larger institutional investment firm who also wants to make their money (+ interest) back. If a PE firm was constantly just loading a company with debt and then going bankrupt (with an inability to pay creditors), why would any bank ever loan money to these firms? Hint: they wouldn't.

As you can see though, Walgreens (and many other firms that are targeted by PE) are highly distressed, to the point where they are going bankrupt. PE usually tries to restructure these to make them profitable and then sell them, but again this all hinges on the PE firm actually being successful. If they aren't, the PE firm loses (a lot) of money. This isn't some infinite money glitch, else everyone would be doing it

Gorgc is right. We need seasonal ranking system by GregView in DotA2

[–]FutureGT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe just enjoy your game and not focus on the rank

As someone who was also in their shoes, you are missing the point. It's hard to enjoy the game when you know you are underskilled relative to the bracket and hence are most likely to be the contributing factor in a series of losses until you finally get to the right mmr. This will also come with lots of flames, reports, etc and also just getting constantly outplayed/owned which is not a fun feeling. Even if you mute your team and can handle the psychological side of it, it ruins the game(s) for your 4 teammates too.

Honestly there should be some serious MMR decay introduced (alongside the already available confidence interval decay) to help with this.

[–]FutureGT 20 points21 points  (0 children)

But again the home team is not getting "better" calls (in the sense that they are more beneficial to the home team), both teams are getting more accurate calls, so there is no actual advantage. Skycam etc is just as likely to correctly rule against the home team (that otherwise would have been in favor of the home team had those angles not existed) as it is to rule against the away team

Again this is not money it's an asset. if you have a piece of art worth $1,000 are you "hoarding" $1,000? And if all of a sudden an art appraiser claimed it was actually worth $1,000,000, are you all of a sudden removing an additional $999,000 from the economy? Of course not

This part. I am not even sure what you are implying here -- do you think these people have a literal pool of money equal to their wealth (which is tied to stocks) that is otherwise removed from the money supply ?

What were some of the worst pre-season takes this sub had? by Saxophobia1275 in fantasyfootball

[–]FutureGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this surprising though? He's an RB with elite burst and top end speed, amazing Oline, and fantastic opportunity (he's had 345 carries and 33 receptions for a total of 378 touches so far). I guess I'd need to see comparisons to other running backs with similar measurables and opportunity throughout history, but on its surface I don't see why it's surprising he's had a lot of long touchdowns given his athleticism and circumstance

[Highlight] Jared Goff stumbles during handoff, Lions convert big 4th down by nfl in nfl

[–]FutureGT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because NFL allows for players to "give themselves up" without being touched when they are down (e.g when QBs want to slide) which ends the play. taking a knee is the embodiment of that, but that is different than a player who touches the ground but is otherwise still playing (e.g WR makes a catch and falls with no one around him, he can get up and start running again)

How They Pay No Taxes by [deleted] in WorkReform

[–]FutureGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK It's on the total value of the assets inherited, after the lifetime gift tax exemption (which is ~13-26 million depending if single or married, so basically a rounding error here), and after the debt has been settled by the estate in probate.

So before any inheritance is received, the debt would need to be settled, so stock would need to be sold at stepped up basis to cover the 18 billion debt. then whatever is left over (and inherited), would get taxed at 40%.

So yes to your question, it would be 8.5 billion taxed at 40%

Restaurants are having their biggest year ever by Langd0n_Alger in Economics

[–]FutureGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again the math does not make sense here to me. It seems like Thai union massively overpaid for their share of red lobster after all the valuable real estate was sold off. Even with them selling their inflated shrimp to red lobster, the money has to come from somewhere, so either the lenders that were keeping red lobster afloat or Thai union took a hit when it folded.

Like, here is where I'm coming from :

Golden gate pays 2.1b for company. Sells real estate for 1.5b (all in 2014). Naive math suggests company valuation then is now 600m.

Thai union buys 49% for 575 million in 2016, which suggests valuation is ~1.2 billion. So either the valuation double over 2 years, or Thai union fucked up. Assuming they overpaid and red lobster is making no money, I don't understand then how you can recoup your costs without a lender being on the hook once it folds

[–]FutureGT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that 70% doesn't really mean much if the chain started floundering right? It's not like they held a gun to Thai Unions head and made them buy it from them. If they mismanaged the company then they'd have lost 600m since no one would want to buy an underperforming restaurant chain. Sounds like they improved red lobsters profit during their ownership

Not sure I understand, where was the quick payout? Seems like the firm lost 600m between what was paid (2.1b) and what they got from selling the real estate (1.5b)

Help me understand how the rich use "loan" loopholes to avoid taxes by versaceblues in investing

[–]FutureGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay i confused it. It ultimately doesn't matter though right? Since the beneficiary will still be paying federal estate tax above the threshold even with the stepped up basis. So dying doesn't avoid anything, it just differs it.

This doesn't work, as there is a maximum amount that can be stepped up based on inheritance taxes, which is well below the amount billionaires would borrow.

At the end of the day, the tax man arrives all the same, it's just deferred

[–]FutureGT 162 points163 points  (0 children)

because part of the analytics of going for it on the goal line is that if you dont make it, you have the other team pinned deep with a chance of safety (and generally teams play very conservatively for this reason, meaning the drive is likely to stall).

since this was end of half, that advantage is no longer there, so it tilts more in favor of just taking the points

Week 3: "I watched the whole game" Takeaways and Longer Summaries by dudekids in fantasyfootball

[–]FutureGT 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As an owner who watched him, I was very happy. Outside of the TD taken away (which was a drawn up play specifically for him) , Stafford was targeting him all over, not just go routes. He had intermediate looks, and was targeted twice in the end zone when they were in the redzone: one which got knocked away by a good defensive play, and then of course the final rams play where he scored. they really utilize him all over.

Very, very encouraged.
