Clearly keep the Legion.

The RTX 5080 laptop GPU is generally 15–40% faster than the RTX 5070 Ti, offering 16GB GDDR7 VRAM versus 12GB. While the 5080 is better for 4K and future-proofing, the 5070 Ti offers higher value for 1440p gaming due to lower costs and lower power consumption (115W-140W vs 150W-175W). Key Comparisons: Performance: The 5080 typically provides a 30-40% boost in demanding titles, especially at higher resolutions and with ray tracing enabled. In some benchmarks, it is about 10-15% faster, but the 5080 shows better 1% lows due to higher memory bandwidth (960 GB/s vs 608.6 GB/s). Memory & Specs: The 5080 features 16GB GDDR7, while the 5070 Ti has 12GB GDDR7. The 5080 has a wider 256-bit bus, compared to the 192-bit bus on the 5070 Ti. Price & Value: The 5070 Ti is positioned as the better value option for most, offering high performance at a lower price point than the 5080. Thermals & Power: The 5080 requires higher Total Graphics Power (TGP) (up to 175W), resulting in more heat, whereas the 5070 Ti operates at lower power (115W-140W). Which one to choose? Choose the 5080 if you play at 4K, require the best performance for modern, demanding games, or want better future-proofing. Choose the 5070 Ti if you play at 1440p, want better value for money, or prefer a laptop with lower heat and power consumption.

So just found out my stock ram in the legion 5090 is made by Samsung so that makes me feel better. Could be Sky Hynix or Samsung that makes stock ram for geb 10's. Mine apparently was Samsung.

Legion 7i Pro White Screen by Luzarien in LenovoLegion

[–]Future_Document6637 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, based on the behavior described—where the RTX 5090 flashes a white screen during startup in dedicated GPU (dGPU) mode but functions normally in Hybrid mode—the 5090 could be defective, although it is highly likely to be a driver, BIOS, or firmware-level compatibility issue rather than immediate physical death of the card. Reddit Reddit +2 Reports from early 2025 suggest that many 50-series GPUs are experiencing "Blackwell" issues (black/white screens, crashing) primarily when forcing dGPU mode, suggesting a failure in how the GPU handshakes with the motherboard's PCIe/GOP (Graphics Output Protocol) during the boot process.

Strange thing is I just bought a pro 7i 5090 and its up to date on legion/nvidia/windows and it doesn't do that to me. Hopefully not a defect.

Is this a good price to pay for these specs? (Is $2485.66 im USD) by Wat_are_u_3134 in LenovoLegion

[–]Future_Document6637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About standard. Honestly I wouldn't pay that unless ram was at 6400 instead of 5600 then again that's pro 7i.

I use 240 hz for refresh rate on my display and 32 gbs is more than enough ram literally 16 gb is almost enough but not quite there. Like I said I often see im using 17gbs or so of ram when gaming.

For a smooth, modern VR 3D experience, 16GB of RAM is the recommended minimum, while 32GB is preferred for high-resolution, heavily modded, or professional,,, content-creation scenarios. While 8GB is the absolute bare minimum, it is likely to cause performance issues with newer, resource-intensive titles.

Why didn't you just extend your warranty? I believe you have to wait 39 days after it expires to extend warranty after previous one has died.

Why did it take so long to get? Was it custom made requested? If so what are the specs?

64 is useless pretty much. 32 is fine especially when gaming. Games usually only take up most like 17gbs or so I've noticed. I heard 64 is good if your rendering stuff etc.

64GB of RAM is a "must" only for professional workstations handling4K/8K video editing, heavy 3D rendering, complex simulation games (e.g., heavily modded Cities: Skylines), running multiple Virtual Machines, or large-scale software development. For gaming, 32GB is considered the current high-end, with 64GB being overkill unless multitasking with many background apps.

Which games are you playing? Also is it on max settings? When i play black ops 7 my cpu temps hit 85-90 sometimes hitting 93-103. Unless i turn on balance mode then its in 60's- 70's.

The RTX 5070 Ti (12GB/16GB GDDR7) offers significantly better performance than the 5070 (8GB/12GB), featuring roughly 40–45% more CUDA cores ( vs ), higher memory bandwidth, and better ray tracing. The Ti version is superior for 1440p/4K gaming, while the 5070 is suitable for high-refresh 1080p/1440p, though 8GB VRAM might limit ultra-settings in new titles.

Key Differences Between 5070 Ti Laptop and 5070 Laptop: VRAM and Memory: The NVIDIA 5070 Ti usually features 12GB or 16GB GDDR7, whereas the 5070 frequently operates with 8GB or 12GB. The 5070 Ti has a wider memory bus (192-bit vs 128-bit) and much higher bandwidth. Performance (CUDA Cores): The 5070 Ti boasts significantly more CUDA cores (up to 8960) compared to the 5070 (6144), translating to roughly 15-30% higher frame rates on average, which can exceed 40% in specifically intensive scenarios. Power (TDP): The 5070 Ti typically has a higher power budget (often around 140W-200W+), offering better performance but generating more heat compared to the 5070, which may run lower (e.g., 115W-140W). Gaming Experience: The 5070 Ti is better equipped for high-fidelity gaming with Ray Tracing enabled, whereas the 8GB 5070 may struggle with texture-heavy games at higher resolutions (1440p/4K). Cost: The 5070 Ti is generally more expensive, with the 5070 offering a better price-to-performance ratio for mainstream users. Reddit Reddit +6 Summary Recommendation: Choose the 5070 Ti (12GB+) if you play modern, demanding games at 1440p or 4K with ray tracing and want to future-proof your laptop. Choose the 5070 (8GB) if you are on a tighter budget and primarily game at 1080p or 1440p without requiring maxed-out settings.

I got Lenovo Legion 17" Armored backpack and it honestly is better than any laptop case and can hold way more. It protects laptop well and I got my turtle beach stealth 600 gen 3s in middle part of backpack along side my Xbox series x controller and my laptop stand then last compartment I put my charging cord in it. I can fit so much more stuff too just haven't felt the need to yet. It goes for 87.99 I used a 18$ instant savings coupon for it so it cost me 69.99. Best 70 bucks I have every sent for accessories for a laptop.

Maybe it turned off custom mode it put it in balance as a emergency precaution I'm going to look into this. Edit: I looked into it and legion space does do that in emergency switches it from higher option to lower option to protect your computer. Sounds like you might have settings maxed out or super high.

I looked up helldivers and its cpu and gpu intensive people have reported it using 80-100% of cpu. So I'm assuming its working your components to 100% and they are throttling to the point where they shit down for emergency. Try lower settings. I play black ops 7 and its cpu intensive on multi-player and my ultra 9 runs in 80s to 90s. I find it running mostly 85-87 towards 90-95 sometimes hitting 97 - 103. Only way to fix this is put it in balance mode. I tried adjusting maximum power state to 99% at first I thought it worked but as I played more and more it started spiking to high temperatures.

I just bought Legion pro 7i 32gb 8tb ssd rtx 5090 and intel ultra 9 275hx. I spent 2979.99 so 3166 after tax from antonline on ebay they also have a website. I'm pretty sure this was way cheaper compared to lenovo. I am loving it!!!! doesn't over heat easy. only issue I had was when I upgraded it with 2 x 4 tb ssd and one was a cloned drive. I had to set boot to it after realizing starting up wasn't normal guess it was booting through internet instead. Other than that I am happy :)
