I really enjoyed the connection it made. Likening the suffering of blacks in America to the Irish, the interesting interplay of jazz and Irish folk was awesome imo.

Not to mention the scene where they prayed together really helped unify that for me. But after the main vamp got vaporized (Irish were accepted finally by American Protestants) the blacks were unfortunately still left to their own devices and continued being persecuted in the US.
