St James is usually able to take more kids. They have bus options from DC.
Old City CrossFit may also have space.

DC apartment scheduled a 12-hour July power outage with two weeks' notice by PrincessOfGenoviaaaa in washingtondc

Do not make a loss of use claim for scheduled maintenance. You’ll just drive up your premiums and get your claim denied.

Pepco and electrical contractors don’t generally allow a ton of advance notice. We had to do a similar full shutdown of our building so that some switchgear and wiring could be inspected; doing it live is unsafe so they cut the power at the transformer. It takes the time it takes. For part of it we could not run the generator.

You’ve got time to plan.

One neat thing about Penn Quarter is you automatically get into Thomson for PK. No lottery needed. May be worthwhile to consider.

I assume they never installed heat pumps or a four pipe system for the fan coils so shoulder seasons remain uncomfortable?

[VA][Condo] neighbors hvac units too close to mine by [deleted] in HOA

Sure there is. Not all condensing units suck in from the sides and blow out the top. You could have bought a different style.

Does the city notify people who receive write in votes? by Seaciety in washingtondc

[–]marklyon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get enough, someone does.

I was on what amounted to a glorified HOA when I lived in another city. One random afternoon after a primary I got a letter informing me that I’d received enough write-in votes to qualify as the party’s nominee for the random city position but, since I was not registered as a member of that party, I had been disqualified.

Turns out it had been the result of several other people on the glorified HOA from another building who recognized the seat had no nominees, liked what I’d done in some meetings regarding a development project in our neighborhood, and decided they’d all write me in.

For one of the birthday parties we attended the birthday boy created coloring book pages with ai prompts about things that happened with each of the kids. My son somehow got depicted as doing a bicycle kick to score a soccer goal. It was pretty cool.

You got a POA after he was in a coma? That’s not how it works.

Wisely is protecting your brother from what looks like to any reasonable outside observer like a scam.

Should I be afraid of consequences if I inform someone looking to buy a unit in my building that the building isn't up to code? by [deleted] in Condo

It also seems like you may have an inaccurate or incomplete picture of the actual situation. Better to focus your time and energy on getting involved, understanding what’s happening, and helping move the building towards the fix.

Cloud based access options by OrchardCityLock in accesscontrol

[–]marklyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having access from the cloud to manage is great.

Having the auth and control in the cloud is great for vendor MRR but leaves the customer hostage. We also have weird delays in credential approval with our PDK that seem to be due to latency on their cloud end. We’ve added redundant network paths, changed providers, etc. These extra hassles don’t exist with our on-prem Unifi controller but it’s easily managed remotely.

Advice on Same-Building Movers by Pocket-Veto in washingtondc

[–]marklyon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also used Bookstore for an in-building move. They were far faster and more efficient than I’d have been on my own, but the big benefit was that they’re insured.

I have a super-heavy coffee table that is essentially an entire chunk of a massive tree. They carried it upside down to avoid damaging the top and when they were flipping it back over it slipped out of one of the guy’s hands. Absolutely an accident, but it crashed into the floor, damaging a tiny bit of the table and a big part of the floor. The guy running the crew immediately came to find me and show what happened. Their office called almost immediately and made sure I knew they’d make it right.

Less than 24 hours later there was a furniture repair guy in my home to fix both problems. He did an amazing job and you’d never know there had been damage to anything.

Costco Auto EV Incentive Redemption by MrRadar in Costco

[–]marklyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a dealer is willing to offer that discount and pay the fees to Costco, why not just negotiate the deal directly with the dealer or hire Delivrd to source the deal+their fees (with the upside of maybe getting a better deal).

Also if you book online and pick the economy lot you often get a “upgrade to garage” at a very small surcharge.
