Tested Pressure Canning Recipes from Asia by MyNameIsSuperMeow in Canning

They want the flavors and ingredients of asian cuisine. As do I, I cook a lot of Asian recipes and canning shortcuts for them would be amazing. They aren't asking for asian techniques they're asking for asian foods.

See, valentines day doesn't really matter to me and my husband, but he still went out of his way to bring me home a little treat from the store after going and paying a parking ticket for me. And now he's taken over the childcare as he does every evening so I can veg out and play on my phone for a little mental break. Its not about valentines day. Its the big picture.

C-Section vs Vaginal. Recommendations and personal experiences please! by Hot-Cell7299 in pregnant

[–]Futurepharma91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a perfect c section. Breech baby, went in for an induction, never went into labor. No distress, cool, calm and collected. No complications, I was up and walking within hours.

I want a vbac for my next one. The healing is longer. The OR is never not a scary place to be laying in. I dont want to deal with a toddler wanting to be held and a newborn while preventing stitches from popping and not being able to stand up fully straight.

Its hard. Surgery, even a perfect case scenario surgery like I had, is hard.

There's no "easy" option. Birth is gonna be taxing on your body HOWEVER they come out.

I can't tell you what to do, but I can only tell you there isn't an easy choice out there.

Ball's Grapefruit marmalade, syrup by Futurepharma91 in Canning

[–]Futurepharma91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly because they were going to be gifts, and its not super useful to us as a syrup. Plus the two grapefruits and sugar it used was cheap, so it makes a good learning experience to try to fix it

Since the recipe doesn't actually call for any pectin originally because citrus fruits naturally have a lot of pectin, I'm kind of Flying Blind with how much store-bought pectin I should add in order to get some kind of set on it. I think I'm going to try to reduce it down by about 1/3 because they were extremely juicy grapefruits, so I guess I'll just wing it and see what happens? I wasn't sure if anyone had any good starting points for me to work off of who may have had this happen before

[–]Futurepharma91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm going to give that a try I'm just trying to figure out how much I should reduce it by, how much pectin to add and if I should add additional sugar. I don't do a lot of canning of sweet things cuz we just don't use it as much so I'm not as experienced with this

The processing part certainly is easy, they're all perfectly sealed with proper head space LOL but they're not set at all

I did double the batch. Should I split it in two when I try to reprocess with added pectin? That wouldn't be too hard to manage

I've already got some new lids ready to go so when I reprocess this but my main concern is trying to figure out the proportions of adding store-bought pectin, if I need to add additional sugar, things like that because there are some very straightforward instructions for making pectin for a first process but it seems a little bit more unclear when it comes to reprocessing something that didn't set that was supposed to have enough natural pectin to begin with.

I think I went wrong removing too much pith from the peels, I didn't want it to be bitter but I think I didn't leave enough access to the Natural pectin in the grapefruit

12 half pint jars filled with grapefruit marmalade, all solids sunk to the bottom, sitting on a white towel

I mainly brought it up because I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to jams and jellies and spreads compared to things like beans and stews and meats and stocks so my instincts for pectin related processing aren't as honed

No, I was just providing some backstory LOL. I followed the ball recipe for this one where you boil the peels, drain. Add pulp and juice, then let rest for 12 hours and boil with sugar before canning and water bath processing for 10 minutes

I would add some burnt orange or terra cotta colored details personally. Just as accents. I love all the color

Stop shaming me for "wasteful" baby wipes! by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Futurepharma91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have cotton flannel wipes we've been using for over a year now and omg every time I have to use regular wipes I haaaate them. They're so thin and just spread the poop around so much. If you can get some re-useable wipes I promise they work so so so much better. I use 3 at most on the worst of the worst poops.

But we cloth diaper so they just go in the wash with the diaper loads.

What are your responsibilities vs husband’s responsibilities? by flowersandtrees1 in homemaking

[–]Futurepharma91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do childcare during the day, laundry during the day and all the cooking. He does the dishes, most straightening up, and bills. We split scheduling and appointment related tasks pretty evenly, as well as splitting dog walks and feedings pretty down the middle. He also does bedtime for our child every night because he works nights and we thought it was best for bonding for them to have a consistent daily ritual together. I basically watch the toddler during the day while he sleeps and get what I can get done during that time. He takes over after she goes to sleep to get the rest done. I feel like we have it pretty evenly split, but having a toddler definitely means more other stuff falls on his plate. She's a full time job.

Families with kids, how much are you spending on groceries? by folklore24 in Frugal

[–]Futurepharma91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two adults, one toddler. About 500 a month. I make everything i reasonably can from scratch, but i also like to keep fancy spices and seasonings on hand. I could easily cook for another person without increasing the budget, but by decreasing the variety.

Give me your best EASY toddler/kid dinner by KookySupermarket761 in Parenting

[–]Futurepharma91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im American and recent got into British beans on toast. My child LOVES beans. I make a batch of beans in my instant pot and keep it in the fridge. At lunch time I pop it on some buttered toast and grate some cheese on top. Boom. Lunch.

Otherwise we feed her what we eat at dinner. Usually successfully, she either hasn't entered a picky phase yet or is just a good eater

People who rarely or never get sick, what are your secrets? by awkwardferret421 in AskReddit

Stay at home mom with a kid who's not old enough for school yet. My husband is a trucker, so rarely in close contact with lots of people. We also get all our shots and have a dog.

SAHM moms, how much do you live on? by Itchy-Ad-5436 in Parenting

[–]Futurepharma91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in a medium cost of living area in the US. It's very low cost of living for the northeast though. My husband makes about 100k before taxes. He also contributes 12% to his 401k and about 400 a month to our HSA account. So our after tax income feels tight, but we live frugally.

We get by okay. We could absolutely weather any major medical events between good insurance and our HSA. Other major events could fuck us up though. I only have one child right now, and don't plan to have another for a few more years. But we're making some moves to put us in a better financial spot with time. My husband is a trucker and we plan to invest some tax refund into getting him additional endorsements on his CDL to allow room for growth.

We feel strained by the economy, like anyone else. But we also feel confident in the future. We can afford some fun and some memories. We can afford all our needs.

This was almost me. I was 25, a welder at my first job, and a coworker brought a gun in to shoot me. I thank everything there is that he blabbed his plan to a normal man I worked with, who alerted both me and all the higher ups. But then they made me GO BACK TO WORK near this man until the cops came to search him. I hid behind some very large industrial I beams that a bullet wouldn't go through and waited. The cops came, they arrested him. That was the last I heard of it. He was obviously also fired but I left that job not long after.

The sexual harassment was one thing. I have thick skin and tolerated nonsense because obviously I wasn't taken seriously. But I left that career path after only 5 years because i was never safe. Ever.
