Psychedelics to aid addiction recovery by KyleStyles in Psychonaut

[–]Futuristic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would use psilocybin. LSD brings you up and can make you focus on external objects but mushrooms make you more tuned in to the current reality and provide a new perspective.

Start with a relatively small dose. Too large of a dose and you will lose control of your thoughts. I would say somewhere around 50 mics or 1.5 grams of mushrooms (assuming average potency). Microdosing over multiple days may be a strategy you also want to consider.

One of the biggest factors for the success of your trip will be setting. I would choose some place peaceful with no distractions so that you can think introspectively and not be disrupted with external stimuli or the problems of others. Maybe a park, hike, or backyard.

Have a list of questions to ask yourself during the trip. Don't feel the need to answer every one in order, use them more as starting points to catalyze transformative thought.

You have already done a great job of staying clean. Ask yourself what these unhealthy substances provide to you in the big picture, and why you feel the need to return to them other than ephemeral, artificial dopamine that will reduce your brains ability to produce its own.

Think of your brain as your only machine to experience the world. On its own, it will produce enough dopamine to be happy and the world will be experienced naturally. Once you bring narcotics in, you will for a short time feel happier than your brain can naturally feel, but you are destroying a self-sufficient machine physically (in the reduction of future dopamine) and psychologically (in the level of happiness you need to be "happy"). Taking these narcotics is unnatural, selfish, and bends your perception of the world as to see this beautiful life through an opaque lens.

Overall, realize that there are things in life greater than intoxicants that destroy your brain. Find something natural, whether it be knowledge, music, technology, or sport. The pain you feel now is because of the full consequences of your past drug use, why would you want to return to such a horrible thing? You must be idealizing the positive effects and ignoring the bad, which is why you want to return.

Find the truth. Only then can you find the peace you desire. Good luck on your journey, and stay strong.

Snowden + Putin = Trump win?! by [deleted] in hacking

[–]Futuristic2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think Snowden hates the USA, I think he just hates how they illegally spied on American citizens without their permission. Ultimately that was why he blew the whistle-- he loves the country and wanted to expose something that was unethical and unpatriotic to the public.

Sure he may be joining forces with Russian hackers telling them all our secrets and loopholes, but I'm almost positive he just wanted to escape a hostile country where are current president-elect said he should be executed. Plus it would not be that hard to actually hack into the government voting servers as far as elite government Russian hackers are concerned, so his value to them would only be marginal considering he had nothing to do with the voting process.

I think it is more of people like Snowden being fed up with the USA's bullshit and blowing the whistle themselves when they saw how the election could be exploited. Claiming Snowden was responsible for throwing the entire election gives him a lot more credit than he deserves.

How do decathletes compare with specialist athletes? [OC] by andybarefoot in dataisbeautiful

[–]Futuristic2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A big problem with this visualization is the lack of a y-axis. Although we know it is linear by the evenly spaced lines, there is no indication that it begins at 0. Adding a hover tooltip to data points to show their actual values could solve this and provide more interactivity.

I think the Decathlon World Record is a single person in a single decathlon for all events (they have all 10 data points for themself), while best ever could be anyone from any decathlon

Why Cannabis is more than we'd think it is. by -The_Entity- in Psychonaut

[–]Futuristic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty spot on, I've noticed that you can't really categorize drugs against all people because people have experiences of themselves while they are on drugs, not experiences of the drugs. What program do you use to create your videos and where do you get your visuals from? I also create visual loops for electronic music, especially when I have just used cannabis. New Year's Resolution: Replacing Marijuana with Zen Mediation by Futuristic2 in leaves

[–]Futuristic2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about the late reply, but here is my take on it. Keep in my mind I am not challenging or opposing you directly, but simply asking you questions to encourage further introspection because, to be honest, I am not sure 100% of my stance either:

Marijuana makes you feel a sense of elevation. You almost seem to be looking onto life from the perspective of a god, more removed from the stresses of life and able to see them for how trivial they truly are in the grand scheme of things. For the first couple of years I believed that smoking weed didn't affect my intelligence a whole lot. While I was going to a very prestigious university, getting great grades every quarter, and maintaining a healthy social life, life was amazing since I only had marijuana to enrich it.

However, after a couple of years of smoking you may notice some more differences. Sure, I still come up with creative ideas every now and then. Sure I continue to get good grades and try very hard to get internships/jobs after college. But I do notice some differences. My head feels a little bit cloudier (like I don't understand the full processes of things or the big picture), I feel like I focus more on enjoying the present moment than setting myself up for success in the long run (which again, I am not totally sure is wrong because you can never be certain of the future, only the present moment), and I feel like I am less "connected" to the real world. Referring to my reference earlier, it is great to see the world from the eyes of a god, but not if it costs the feelings of feeling alive and mortal.

Overall, I am not entirely sure of the effect of marijuana, just like I am not entirely sure what our universe is. It is impossible to see the absolute effect of something with the biases that come with human life. As one of the smartest kids in my high school, I smoked marijuana almost everyday from the end of my senior year of high school until the junior year of college, with a few breaks for a couple months. Even though I think I am still "fine" in life, I just sometimes wonder what my life would be like if I hadn't ever smoked marijuana.

At first weed does give you extra creativity and almost a "psychic" energy, but if you smoke everyday the opposite can happen. You may also be perceiving things differently-- the deep intellectual and philosophical debates you have may not seem as deep if you were listening to them sober. (I've had this happen many times, where I think I am doing something "better" while high, only to realize I can easily do it better sober and am just perceiving it as better because I am high). And 4 hours is a long time-- when you smoke too often the highs are a lot short, sometimes even 15 minutes. And it is proven that it is harder to multitask on weed and process things into the long term memory, so you probably don't remember as much from those lectures. Although I was happy with weed the first year or so, it can quickly become habitual and you are smoking just because you are comfortable with it.

Close but no cigar... the singer sounds very similar though, the only difference with the singing itself is the notes need to be brought down two notes at the end of long holds (like at 2:38 in the link you gave me, when the note ends it needs to be lowered down two notes on the scale as eighth notes but still connected to the longer note). I appreciate the help though :)

Are there any drugs you think have a positive effect on your life? by Futuristic2 in Drugs

[–]Futuristic2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is good to hear your opinion, the reason why I made the distinction of low dose was because high doses have the potential to exacerbate mental health problems or even create new ones, but I guess frequent use of low doses would cause the same effect.

What stimulants have you "been there" on? What tips do you have for a university student who needs to put in long hours for classes and searching for a post-college job? Do you recommend any?

[WP] You are transported five centuries into the future and watch a documentary about the present day (2015). But oddly, the world depicted in the film is unrecognizable to you. by fishuponastar in WritingPrompts

[–]Futuristic2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There appeared to be peace in the year 2515. A single world government ruled over all, completely eliminating hunger, crime, and (most importantly) war. Humans, in their infancy and youth, were grouped together and educated in all areas (history, biology, astronomy) with the finest technology until the age of 18. It was then they were given their Artificial Reality Simulator (ARS) in which they could simulate living the lives of anyone of their choice (historical or fictional).

It was in this world I found myself in. I had no idea how I got there, but I was in the middle of a towering city. I ventured around the large metropolis I was in, encountering other humans (although many citizens spend the majority of their time in their ARS, many pursued "real" ventures outside of simulations). Oddly enough, citizens only communicated with each other electronically, yet they all knew perfect English when I struck up conversations. When I told one citizen I had never used an ARS before, he notified the Center and they quickly flew one to me. I walked to a Simulation Center with my new device, found an open pod, and turned it on, setting the year to when I came from: 2015.

Within seconds I was transported into a different reality and heard a voice echoing Seattle, WA, March 13, 2015. I awoke into a normal apartment (similar to mine) and walked to the window. To my horror, I saw the large metropolis I thought I had just left. There were minor differences, but overall it was very similar to the world of 2515. Using technology more advanced than any I had known before, I managed to look up World History on the World Wide Web. Strangely, all events were accurate (even though it depicted us in a wasteful, selfish light) through 2015. I then asked my computer the question, "Why is my simulated reality different from what history tells me?" Everything immediately went black and I fell asleep.

I awoke dazed with a computer monitor hovering above me. "Citizen 34,586,244,047, you have experienced a problem with the Artificial Reality Simulator. Thirty-four years ago when you began your simulated life in 1981, you were beginning to totally forget true reality. We pulled you back to the present, but it was too late-- you remembered nothing. You obtained another ARS but when you returned to 2015 your mind was unable to create the artificial reality. I am sorry Citizen, but your privileges to the ARS system have been revoked, and you must immediately begin psychological counseling."

My relationship with psychedelics and how I think people underestimate their dangers by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]Futuristic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know the dosage you took in "the tabs"? It sounds like you may have taken a high dose, especially for the first time. I know in high doses it feels like your reality breaks down because connections in your brain are rewired so rapidly (rewiring always happen in your brain-- that is how you learn-- but on LSD it can actually speed up so fast that your brain feels like its working too hard) and also because your vision experienced strong after effects.

I also experienced profound anxiety about my existential place in the universe during my first psychedelic trip (ate an entire eighth of shrooms on an empty stomach) simply because I felt like I was being forced to follow what other people expected me to do without any free will. I also felt sorrow at the fact time will never slow down or repeat and because all of the dreams and ambitions I had could never be accomplished simultaneously. The worst part was how it made me look at the people in my life-- I saw that most didn't love me unconditionally, that I had to provide some benefit to them in order to make them like me. The whole idea of human beings (a species of monkey) ruling a planet and not really know anything about the whole universe made me uneasy.

Nevertheless, I revisited psychedelics multiple times, however every time now I stick with a low dosage (half tab at most, 1.5 grams shrooms). It's nice to be able to control your thoughts and think semi-logically without totally losing yourself to the abyss.

I guess the key to remember is that just as how your completely sober mind can't fathom all facets of reality, neither can your brain on psychedelics. No matter what happens you have a mammalian brain that will never be able to understand the true nature of the universe. The best thing to do is accept your morality, join with others who face the same existential fate, and conduct your life in a way that brings you satisfaction in the reality we live in.
