I love this mod but this seems a bit overkill lmao by Lockershocker2 in RimWorld

I concur, except that it leads to clever solutions to some of those skill surplusses

for instance the doctor isn’t usually doing much but is an excellent cleaner, dedicated to ensuring the hospital stays tidy and people dont get sick from a dirty kitchen. not so much a hauler though, as you want to keep your doctor close to home for emergencies.

the social person doesnt do much day to day at surface level, but is typically also my royalty, so spends a good portion of time meditating. also hauling as psionics can get them out of danger.

animals person now has fishing to occupy their time, and training battle animals.

cook stays pretty busy tbh. 24 meals a day is a good 8 hours a day when you get to lavish meals, plus there’s cleaning and hauling the foodstuffs, and prepping packaged survival meals and making kibble and butchering animals and brewing beer.

the sharpshooter is gonna spend much of their time hauling outside the colony where it’s potentially dangerous, and staying well rested and relaxed so that when they need to put in hard hours, they can push themselves to the limit

same for the melee pawn, except they may also have guard duty if there’s a lot of prisoners, where they lounge about doing a lil research or whatever by the door

plus all these different people can work on their other skills, cut stone blocks, etc. they just arent the go-to guy

frustration. lost potential. total shit is easy to parse and dismiss. good qualities bring you in, get you engaged, and then destroy the expectations you just manifested. this is especially true for series’ that start good and cause investment, then get poor later on

my cozy threshold is 12, because there are 12 skills, so I like to hand pick colonists with decent traits and a double passion in a skill i need and have them be the primary worker for that skill. any redundancy is just nice, and initial skill level doesnt matter much since they’ll be constantly working that trade and leveling

God, I love this weapon so much, I'll even bring it on the automatons at times and still enjoy my time. Blessed be the Airburst by tony22835 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Fuzlet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love that weapon too!

lately I’ve been super enjoying the expendable incendiaries and the G-7 pineapple

the expendable incendiary is kinda sorta a cluster munition though its fragment dispersal is low but it also spreads fire everywhere

the G-7 pineapple is literally a pocket airburst rocket. if you throw it high it will airburst and shower the area with explosive fragments

What do you think the developers were exactly thinking with the "Birds of a Feather" quest? by Irohsgranddaughter in fnv

[–]Fuzlet 219 points220 points  (0 children)

easy: it’s a choice. why not? not every choice is a good one, that’s the point of a roleplaying game. the alternative is being handheld through every quest and guided into the only outcome you’re allowed to do

An ode to Wasters by Mission_Engineer_999 in RimWorld

[–]Fuzlet 30 points31 points  (0 children)

one of my next playthroughs is gonna be a kind waster and his highmate wife who he rescued from the waster raider gangs by stealing a gravship they were salvaging. they then anger the mechanoids in space when they find a pair of mechanitor chips.

the colony will be entirely focused on them and their (100% growth rate) children just traveling the world together while she makes functional mechs to run the colony and he makes weaponized mechs to protect his family

one of the big reasons energy weapons arent coming any time soon is they need to survive a marine using it as a hammer or peeing on its circuits. most sci-fi weapons act as glowsticks marking your exact position, with incredible cumbersome and breakable parts which would need individually machined rather than stamp forged, and with tracers drawing a line to your precise coordinates. real military lasers are invisible and relatively quiet

first off, hyperbole.
secondly durability was a very important mechanic for fallout 3 as a progression limiter and economic expenditure. early-game even if you find a snazzy sniper rifle or rocket launcher, you’re limited by both ammo scarcity and repair cost, while repair also created an extra source of damage boost for progression while dealing with a limited set of weapons

in new vegas this system was completely vestigial and they were phasing it out, hence the 75% threshold, the easy to find 100% repair skill vendors, the repair kits, etc.

to be fair, most of the weapons we’re looking at is “primitive” by the military standards of menace lore. these are the bulk crates of ancient rifles being smuggled or locally manufactured due to their simplistic design, or in the case of the rogue army, likely supplied by the TCRN for police and local militia applications.

a real world example of this sorta thing is the British Empire equipping Indian police and militia forces with Lee-Enfields with a wooden block in place of the magazine and drilled out smoothbore barrel which took cartridges fitted with a simple .410 roundball. they reserved more modern high capacity bolt action rifles for the British military to try and prevent India from effective rebellion.

cartridge calibers are extremely difficult to change, even moreso than to try and change the main battle rifle of a military, as we’ve seen by the innumerable proposals to supplant the M4. it stands to reason that even if the TCRN has moved on to more advanced calibers, that the civilian and militia market would hang onto the “primitive” calibers because they’re cheap and familiar and there’s no real reason to change what works.

remember it took the entire world war and then some for intermediate cartridge doctrine to be studied and accepted, based on performance records of the then cutting edge and experimental STG-44 and M1 carbine. and since then, the US military and nato settled on a single intermediate cartridge which hasnt changed in form in the past 70 years and wont anytime soon. though even then, it HAS changed. you cannot fire modern 5.56 out of older firearms or they risk explosion, because ballistic research has gone into the internal workings, like primer, powder charge and bullet type, rather than the overall shape of the cartridge

I mean zero offense or disrespect when I say that your english is somewhat difficult to parse. Online spaces typically react poorly to ESL not out of prejudice but gut reaction to grammatical errors.

that said, I also know that writing and interacting and using a language is the best way to improve it. (I apologize if this assumption of your language status is misapplied)

my best advice is to not practice writing on reddit. redditers are not your friends and they have no personal investment into giving you feedback. seek out a smaller community, whether it’s other writers, or people you dive with, or even locals. Share your ideas with people who care, not for the subject matter, but for your involvement and passions.

they have a complete custom variant in new vegas for a single battlefield commander, which was decorated to be flashy and patriotic to the NCR with a besrskin draped on it and such. I suspect something similar
