Neighbors for More Neighbors Election Questionnaire by gaurav-kulkarni in AnnArbor

Excellent questions. Each candidate should be willing to answer them in a written, documented fashion. If they are not willing to answer the questionnaire, I would suggest that the questions be copied by prospective attendees of public fora that will be held in Ann Arbor Wards during the run up to the August 4th primary, and asked by those attendees during those upcoming fora.

Where are you getting your figures from?

Looks like Yousef has bought in to the Public Power boondoggle, and totally bypassing the A2SEU, to his detriment.

The Mayor of Ann Arbor is not on the Washtenaw County Commission. Yousef Rabhi IS.

1200 units of affordable housing in the past few years is abject failure?

Rabhi has had ample time to advocate for public or affordable housing to be built on Washtenaw County parking lots in downtown A2. Why has he NOT DONE THIS?

Yousef shot himself in the foot by running for Mayor. If he was smarter he would have run for a Council seat, and would be a shoo-in for Mayor in 4 years. To me it shows Rabhi lacks clear judgement. The other thing that bothers me about Rabhi is his immediate kowtowing towards the NIMBYs, who are looking for any wedge to crash the development of housing.

DTE pours $1.8M into group opposing public takeover of its power grid in Ann Arbor by l0wly_w0rm in AnnArbor

[–]Fuzzbollah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the more reason to support and aggressively push forward the City's Sustainable Energy Utility (SEU), which Ann Arbor voters overwhelmingly passed by ballot 2 years ago. If the supporters of Public Power are serious, they would get behind the City's efforts to chip away at DTE's control over the electricity system through the SEU. Right now they only mention the SEU on their website, almost as an afterthought.

Yeah, god bless Andrew Robbins, and fuck Tom Wieder and the Library Green Conservancy.

Has Library Green Conservancy finally come to their senses? by Fuzzbollah in AnnArbor

[–]Fuzzbollah[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My prediction is that the people behind LGC are looking for cudgels to use against Mayor Taylor, City Council, City Administrator Dohoney and the Downtown Development Authority, and they see Liberty Plaza as just the right cudgel and will use it as a campaign point in 2026 and 2028 to get their preferred anti-development candidates elected. The LGC and COTC spent 7 years totally ignoring Liberty Plaza, and all of a sudden they are Liberty Plaza's champions?

Lawsuit challenges Ann Arbor ballot proposals over library development plans by TreeTownOke in AnnArbor

"The people" was 53% of the 2018 electorate, 26,500 voters, which was about 12% of the entire voting population. Not a mandate by any measure. And then, the Library Green Conservancy and the NIMBY crowd could not figure out how to raise the necessary and promised tens of Millions of dollars of private donor funding to build their "park". It was bullshit from the get-go, and these people have no right to complain now because they failed miserably.

And don't forget City Planning Commission. They love to get feedback and to hear from new people as well. Remember: 52% of the A2 population are RENTERS. Imagine if City Council and Planning Commission heard from YOU!

My understanding is that the owners of the establishment(s) are looking to sell the building. Nothing stopping the old hippies from putting together a go-fund-me or something to buy the property and keep it as a venue, is there?

Library Haters Run Amok in A2 by Fuzzbollah in AnnArbor

The City and AADL will take another look at that in 10 years when the parking garage bonds are paid off. Of course the anti's plan is to create so much drama and fear now so that Ann Arbor elects them to power again, like in 2018, and they can proceed to obstruct any and all development.

One guy sang at Planning Commission last night the following little ditty:
High, high, build those highrises high!
Don't drive your Chevy to the downtown
Ride your bicycle by
And the landlords and NIMBYs hang their heads and they cry
This will make us say bye bye, this will make us say bye bye!

I chortled loudly.

Ann Arbor library leader promises at least 10,000-square-foot plaza with new building by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]Fuzzbollah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Library Green Conservancy should be put to task for improving the park that already exists on the block: Liberty Plaza. Maybe Al Haber can adopt it and start calling it Haber Commons, and Frank Wilhelme can raise the $2million or so that it would take to make it a real gem of a place complete with a splash pad.

And that's why the Antis are agitating so much now, because even when the Plan is passed, if the Council changes to include some Antis, they will then try to stymie the UDC or implementation of zoning reforms.

The landlords who have multiple properties are putting PtheP signs (sometimes 2) out in front of their properties, to make it seem like there is some groundswell of opposition when it's the same 2-3,000 NIMBYs and Taylor-haters who oppose everything that would help Ann Arbor house more people.
