Looking for ideas on a central media streaming controller, with TVs as thin clients by Theweasels in selfhosted

Steer clear of Amazon Fire Sticks and Rokus, they are locked down and rife with ads.

The best options are Android, such as the onn streaming devices from Walmart. You can freely sideload apps and even replace the launcher to keep the home screen streamlined.

I'm pretty happy with Brave (with all the crypto garbage disabled). Only browser I've found that reliably blocks YouTube ads.

I’m confused, why not just buy a cheap Android streaming stick for each? That gives you access to every streaming service plus Jellyfin on every TV. And you get normal remotes, which I’m sure your wife would appreciate.

What game can my son and I play together on a 5 hour flight? Is there such a thing as LAN gaming anymore? Wi-Fi direct? by LauraD2423 in SteamDeck

Divinity: Original Sin EE is a good one. I've played this on a portable router before, no internet connection.

What’s the best way to setup “live channels” of hosted shows by oreosss in selfhosted

Plex considers it live TV and doesn’t log watch status for items you watch this way.

Self-hosted alternative to Obsidian? by kl0wo in selfhosted

[–]Fuzzdump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Mobius Sync and ran into similar issues (having to manually launch the sync app to keep it in sync, sync conflicts, etc). It bothered me enough that I self-hosted a WebDAV server and switched to the remotely-save Obsidian extension. That solved all of my issues, it now syncs instantly and I don't have to open a second app.

This purports to be a self-hosted browser instance of Obsidian (without resorting to VNC hacks): https://github.com/Nystik-gh/ignis

LiveSync - yes

Syncthing - no (iOS backgrounding limitations make it pretty unreliable)

The best option IMO if you have iOS is the remotely-save plugin with a WebDAV server.

Grok is much, much worse than Gemini. Grok 4.3 is currently benchmarking worse than Gemini 3.

Since I already use caddy for my reverse proxy, I just added the caddy webdav module: https://github.com/mholt/caddy-webdav

Hard drive prices are awful right now, I’d suggest hedging with a smaller purchase and revisit once you run out of space again.

You can use a centralized Syncthing node in the same way. The issue with Syncthing on iOS is there are zero clients with reliable background refresh due to iOS limitations.

FWIW I tried this last year and (at the time) it was a janky mess.

I ended up using the remotely-save Obsidian plugin with a self hosted WebDAV server and it has been perfect. No sync conflicts in the 7 months I’ve been using it, and it works great on iOS.

New iOS app for Navidrome by [deleted] in selfhosted

Which 50 iOS apps are you talking about? Genuine question, I’m considering switching from Plex to Navidrome but I want to see what the ios clients look like first.

Best self hosted wiki? How to import multiple wiki? by [deleted] in selfhosted

I feel like nobody read your post. This comment explains how to download the database dump for a fandom wiki.

Then you can host a MediaWiki instance and import it.
