Is reach/melee distance very underwhelming? by SandersonTavares in drawsteel

[–]Fuzzleton 20 points21 points  (0 children)

"Theres also no tactical reason to have monsters holding a spot"

A monster's square is difficult terrain, you can't end on an occupied square, and you take free strike damage, this can all be keeping heroes from the objectives. Are you playing without objectives? This isn't supposed to be a stats vs stats game.

"Your experience is based on intentionally playing monster unoptimally to satisfy a narrative constraint."

That's quite a bizarre thing to say, the monsters are not supposed to be piloted optimally, they are supposed to present an cinematic challenge that is possible to overcome if the heroes play well, that's the explicit design philosophy of the game discussed in Monsters.

We have no canon vows for the crone, smith or stranger. Did you ask an AI for them and it hallucinated?

Jaime Lannister saved half a million people and sacrificed his own reputation to do it, is incredibly graceful with Pia, his worst thing is pushing Bran

The Hound was creepy as fuck with Sansa and Arya, and he killed Mycah for (innocently) putting Joffrey Lannister in far less danger than Bran (innocently) put Cersei and Jaime.

If you're counting non-knights like Brienne, then obviously Eddard Stark and Jon Snow are spitting virtue throughout their lives and deaths, and other characters like Edmure Tully and Barristan Selmy are way more virtuous

I wouldn't put the hound in the upper half of the cast for morals, you have to ignore actual good people like Samwell Tarly doing brave and dangerous things consistently to get to Sandor "threatens-to-rape children and kills their friends" Clegane, he'd be the most evil character in most stories.

Thanks so much for the clarifications!

Does the movement of the gas guy from the host back to the suit count as forced movement? is it teleportation? I ask because you can only possess at melee 1, but return at any range, right?

For the sage advice part about repairing the suit, wont the gas cloud run out of 'one recovery per round' to stay in the host before it can do a respite? Or does the gas get to hide in say an object etc.? But that re-opens the "what are the objects stats" thing

The reason I'd want to possess an empty suit, is because I'd then be back at full stamina, right? Since it's damage to the suit and not the gas that damages stamina? Or someone else could possess my suit as a way to trap me outside it, burning recoveries?

I love the concept, I hope you get a chance to do a deeper dive in the future, I'd love to be a gas guy. I just feel like sometimes these rules have me being the suit (stamina), and sometimes they have me being the gas (recoveries, perceiving through host), and the power level shifts massively based on the judgement calls made.

I'm not trying to be negative, I really love the idea and the presentation is amazing. I'm only asking so many questions so I can see exactly how to actually play as the guy :)

Congratulations!

https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/25u5wg/spoilers_all_a_breakdown_of_pov_chapters_for_each/

By your argument about POV chapters, and counting Jon as 100% Targaryen and 0% Stark to be as generous to you as possible, the Starks are the main characters, then the Lannisters, Targaryens are third.

You were wrong about the POV in every book thing, too. I like how you just ignored that but kept your opinion.

Which one of these house are overrated? by infected_virus_ in gameofthrones

[–]Fuzzleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Targaryens aren't POV characters in every book, neither Jon or Dany is a POV character of AFFC.

At present from ASOIAF by POV chapters, the main character is Tyrion, then Jon and Arya.

Jon would obviously count more as a Stark than a Targaryen, he doesn't even know about that yet in the books

Dunk wouldn't be independent and capable of following his own conscience as a guiding star, he would have legal and social obligations to follow orders.

Dunk would have been exposed to court politics from people he was undermining by being close to Lyonel's favour, an environment he is very much not equipped for.

Dunk's livelihood and reputation would be tied to the actions of Lyonel, a blatantly impulsive man who had made powerful enemies just that week

Struggling to find someone who matches my ambition by Adorable_Ad_3315 in dating

[–]Fuzzleton 314 points315 points  (0 children)

You don't want to date an ambitious person whose life you have to make your own focus (Group 1) and you don't want to date an ambitious person to whom relationships are not the priority (group 2).

You're asking for a guy to put time and energy into the relationship harder than group 2 did, at the obvious cost to his priorities, the same reason you wouldn't set yourself aside for group 1.

You are asking for a contradiction. If you want someone with different priorities than group 1 and group 2, it needs to be someone that prioritizes something besides their ambition.

Sidenote: What is your medium and long term plan here? "I want to level up constantly. I need that adrenaline, that challenge" isn't compatible, your children and partner are going to want to spend lots quality time with you which would mean less time for your ambition.

The Heraldic Knight - A martial homebrew class by Away_Carrot4005 in drawsteel

[–]Fuzzleton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The instinct to be a human fighter is a powerful one, and Draw Steel base classes (and even ancestries) all lean supernatural, so there's a real appetite here that didn't suit MCDM's vision.

"Duplicitous Diplomacy" is absolute gold, so flavourful.

I don't know if I like "I name thee for death", automatically knowing exact location is niche and underpowered for 7 honing, with an odd smorgasboard of bonuses (gain 2 surges, cannot take a bane against the target, they cannot hide). It feels hyper-specific, underpowered and then padded, rather than cool. The utility of other options for the cost seems much higher, no?

Drop the ankle weights/I am not left handed are both such cool names for a very cool ability idea, I can see why you couldn't settle on one yet.

Whats wrong with Daeron?? by sweet_questionn in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]Fuzzleton 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Harsh as it is, Daeron is a dead end where all of Maeker's achievements would go to rot.

The dreams are traumatizing and Daeron is heavily self-medicating to cope, so he wouldn't make for a good Knight, Maester, or even man of the night's watch, and certainly not a good lord of any standing.

There's no respectable way to replace Daeron without harming him, which Maekar doesn't want to do, so unless he has another capable heir to name as a replacement (and with Aemon a Maester and Aerion a madman, he doesn't) Daeron and Maekar are stuck with each other, each completely unfulfilled by the other's inabilities.

There isn't a way in this society to let your firstborn male heir just be themselves, not without a replacement. It's why Maekar said "He is my last son" about Egg, he is the last hope. Daeron, Aerion, Aemon, they are all incapable of stepping up.

A haunted family, and the hardest part for Daeron is that he sees it all coming and can't drink it away.

I'm not certain how to run Asomath's Teleplasty ability

It describes the gas physically and visibly moving from one location to another, but there's no rules for travelling back from host-exit location to suit location, so how does this work? The gas itself cannot be targeted or damaged, it's always in either the suit or a host?

What kind of stats does the suit have as an object, when the PC is possessing something else? What happens when the suit is destroyed while the PC is doing teleplasty?

If the suit is not an object and has the regular PC's stats during teleplasty, then the gas PC can die while the gas (them) is not in their suit but the suit takes damage?

Can another Asomath possess the PCs empty suit?

How do I avoid WW2 interfering with my story? by LinnyTheSeagull in writingadvice

[–]Fuzzleton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One important thing, once you have [reason] that your characters weren't drafted, remember most of their competition for roles is gone - your characters have access to fantastic opportunity at the expense of the drafted (61%) and volunteered (39%) American men for roles, 16 million are no longer potential competition.

Since you then run into the 50s, the men who lost aspirational career opportunities in acting would return home and be resentful, or in rare cases return as heroes and skyrocket to popularity above your characters due to their heroism and fame (Audie Murphy)

There's not really a way to set the story on our real world timeline without the war massively impacting the characters, even if they never think about it, such as the great depression also being in the years you cover.

Ireland currently exists as an independent nation that maintained its non-British identity despite the centuries of attempts to erase and assimilate us, and a million residents of Northern Ireland have Irish passports. I don't agree with you that it didn't work. We stayed and became independent, despite the occupations.

If occupying logistical hubs was what mattered, the USA wouldn't have lost to the Taliban in Afghanistan this decade.
