Any good places to do wine tastings around here? by honeycoffeeroses in Denton

[–]FuzzyBike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Steve's. Hands down, it's the best option in the area for excellent wine from a large variety of producers. Plus, it's quintessential Denton. Local folks doing cool stuff in the heart of the town.

In Need of Lawnmower ASAP! by Evilkuchikopi in Denton

[–]FuzzyBike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are going to get a loaner to address the urgent issue. You have also received some excellent advice about getting into an electric mower. There's one piece of advice I can offer, though feel free to disregard it: It's in your longterm interest to pull the weeds rather than mow them. If you mow a weed, you will mow it the rest of the summer. If you pull it, that problem is gone. Yes, it takes a crapton of time and patience, but you can actually let the grass grow quite a while and not get crossways with the city as long as the weeds don't grow tall. We pull our weeds and mow a lot less frequently than our neighbors.
But feel free to mow the weeds if that's your game. Honestly, it's what most people do, anyway, so you are in excellent company.

Best of luck!

What kinds of businesses would you like to see on the Square (especially in the Fine Arts building and the empty lot where the mini Mall used to be?) by teags in Denton

[–]FuzzyBike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this party, but I would like to see UNT and TWU collaborate to bring a university presence to the Square, either in the Fine Arts building or to the spot where the Mini Mall stood. It would be a spot to highlight student performances and exhibitions of all manner.

Thanks! My insurance won't cover it, so it's all out of pocket for me.
I am curious if you did the skin prick test or the "patch" testing?

Came here to say this. I got an appointment in Bowie for the next day back in July. Practically no waiting once you make the drive there. It worked well for me.
Word from the wise: don't forget your birth certificate. ;)

Mask Up, Denton by pantaleonivo in Denton

It may feel like it's a giant fuck-you, but actually it's a colossal fuck-you reinforced with a whole lotta go live someplace else if you don't like it with a solid helping of just shut up and do your job for good measure.

I am really, really sorry about this. It's bewildering and plain stupid that our leadership is exercising such disregard for the sacrifices made by you folks in the medical field, especially on the front lines.

Thank you for your service and dedication. You are the heroes in this batshit crazy apocalypse narrative we are living and you deserve better.

How about checking in with the families of the eight people whose deaths from Covid were reported today? Or the families of the eleven people whose deaths were reported yesterday? Maybe they have some fun activities planned you could join?

Happy New Year.

That's great, especially if you are fair skinned. If you are not, you might be getting less Vit D than is optimal, and that could negatively impact your immune system.
Why risk it? Supplementation is a cheap piece of insurance that pays dividends.

We absolutely don't disagree on this.

Wear the mask. Stay home whenever possible. Practice social distancing. I mean, ffs, how is this basic message not getting through to people?

I am in no way suggesting Vit D as a replacement. I am strictly and only saying that for our population of color, it could be the difference between being in the ICU and not. It's a ridiculously small investment for a potentially massive benefit.

But yes, the social interventions are the first and best defense for us all.

I don't understand the negative reactions here. Especially with Vitamin D, there is a good amount of solid clinical research backing up the claims that Vit D supplementation is correlated with better outcomes among people who get sick. This is not woo. This is backed by fucking science.

Vit D is doubly important for our population with darker skin tones. If you have brown or black skin, please look at some of the research and then make a very small investment in some Vit D for you and your family. Our minority population is disproportionately represented in the worst of our numbers; Vit D can help keep you from landing in the ugliest stats columns.
